I remember going to this school, and it was 'okay'. Thought some of the staffs were not respectful and were strict, but i haven't really seen other students get support on this journey, they were just, yelled at. Now my sister, doesn't have enough nutrition to keep awake so most of what my sister needs to do is to push her body to the absolute limits just to go to school. Yet the principal and teachers don't treat my sister with respect. They would fear monger, or even straight up threaten us if my sister doesn't go to school.
(Not that skipping school is great its just that my sister doesn't get the nutritional, emotional and mental support from her teachers or pears.)
The school food was okay, the students around me was amazing, and there were holidays that i enjoyed while i was in this school. But i can't support the fact that staff or teachers would treat students with disrespect.
(Teachers need support to, they don't get paid enough there overworked and they don't get enough time, but i want my sister to get support from my teachers.)
Would i recommend this school?
Mabey not, you can come here for the holidays or slight freind making, but overall not a great school.

I used to be a student here. It was so amazing! Great eduction with great diversity making us learn about all cultures!

Just like the school song says:

SYLVAN PARK IS A REALLY GREAT SCHOOL,

We live walking distance from Sylvan park and can not believe how much we enjoy this school. It feels like we stepped back in time with the whole neighborhood walking to and from school everyday. We have met some of our closest friends walking to school, playing in the neighborhood, and enjoying the school events. Between the neighborhood festivals, the musical productions, the field trips, running day, and walking pick up line I am truly in love with the school. The teachers are fantastic, the principle is amazing and we have enjoyed the year so much!

My child did not receive adequate support for his learning disability (dyslexia). The little support received was no educationally appropriate.

This has been a great school for my child, with a very strong sense of community and inclusion. The current equity score (2/10) does not do the school justice for its efforts in this area. In the best of times, engagement with the students most challenged by poverty can be difficult, as parents often move around for work. The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly increased these challenges, but the school is honestly doing everything it can, as far as I can tell.

My daughter started Kindergarten here this year, and I truly believe that that first student-teacher relationship can profoundly impact love of learning and confidence. We could not be happier with Ms. Hobgood. She has been fair, she has been encouraging, and she shows great empathy and care for her students -- all of them. My daughter looks forward to going to her classroom every day, and raves about her friends, teachers, and what she's learning. She likes to practice writing and words at home, and we are just blown away by her experience.

With my son in 4th grade last year and my daughter in kindergarten this year, both experiences have exceeded our expectations. We are proud to support Sylvan Park, and are grateful for the education, field trips, teachers, and opportunities our children have received there. We look forward to 1st grade!

The dress code is horribly not fair, seems like girls can wear cardigans and tights under there jumpers with anything on them boys cannot wear anything to keep them warm in building. Way to strict seems like boot camp for boys. The whole take off your jacket in building with a hood or any coloring or writing is overkill!!!

I currently have a 2nd grader and my son will start next year.... we LOVE Sylvan Park. It's a smaller elementary school that has a wonderful community feel, even though some of the students opt in. Lots of parent involvement, awesome teachers and a great new principal who is working with her team to make the school even better. I feel my children are getting a great education here and they are truly cared for as well.

I am a grandparent and a public school teacher for 38 years. I am so pleased at the whole child education my grandchild receives at Sylvan Park. The lessons from the classroom reach out to her community and everyday life. Thanks you Sylvan park teachers and staff.

Very pleased with our sons transition to public school. The Paideia learning method is nurturing to these young minds. We couldnt be happier. Our son is in 1st grade and has Miss Gerson, but the whole first grade team is awesome.

I was truly shocked to see any negative reviews of this school! I currently have a second grader enrolled here and his older brother (currently 7th grade at Meigs) attended before him so I have been involved with Sylvan Park for a very long time. I simply could not be any happier!!! Both of my children have excelled due to the wonderfully caring and dedicated faculty and staff. Parental involvement is amazing. It is truly a neighborhood school with high standards for both students and teachers. Any negative experience resulting from enrollment here could only come from the parental side. There is NOTHING negative to say from the faculty or administrative side. Walk in the door and you will be greeted by smiling, happy staff and find smiling, happy children who are well prepared for middle school.

We have really enjoyed this school, My son is in first grade and has Miss Gerson. I must say she is grade A with the children, very nuturing. Kindergarden and first grade are the pillars to reading and writing. She comes up with ways to make it fun and learn. I also love!!! the new principle Miss Blankenship. Very down to earth and easy to engage.

We absolutely love this school. The teachers and PTO are incredible. They do so many fun, hands on projects, and if you compare metro schools they rank in the top academically. Couldn't ask for a better kindergarten experience than what we've had with Ms. Riddle at Sylvan Park.

This school is excellent! We relocated to Nashville from Northern California a few months ago with a child in kindergarten. We were looking for a small school that's (a) public, (b) academically excellent, and (c) culturally diverse. We certainly found it in Sylvan Park. The kindergarten teachers are all excellent, and principal is a legend in Nashville education circles, and the parents care and are all involved. I love that I can walk into the school each day to see what's going on. This really is a strong community, and the Sylvan Park Paideia Design Center really is a lovely school.

My daughter started kindergarten this year, and her teacher is Ms. Manns. Ms. Manns is an absolutely wonderful teacher, and thanks to her, my daughter can practically read just halfway through the school year. I'm not completely comfortable with the school's curriculum, since a lot of what the kids do is over their heads and seems to be a waste of time, but Ms. Manns keeps a healthy balance of doing what the school requires and using her own wonderful methods of teaching to get great things accomplished. We'll see how next year goes.

Horrible! My daughter cried almost everyday. Now she's happy she is out of there and never wants to see mrs Wanda again.. They lost a highly gifted student. They need better staff. If it wasn't for Ms. Mann she would have had a worse time there.

My son is currently attending kindergarten at Sylvan Park (and has Mrs. Allinder for a teacher). I couldn't ask for a more nurturing, loving and educational environment for him. The "special" (Spanish, Music, Art and PE) really round out the entire experience. The more involved you are, the more you will love the school. It's a real community experience. The teachers, the staff, and of course the amazing Mrs. Cheadle (principal) make it the place to be. I adore this school and Mrs. Allinder is amazing with teaching the children, loving thelso making each feel special.

Our daughter went to Kindergarten here and she was miserable!! Very little help. I spent the whole year defending her behaviors. Now she is in a Montessori school excelling and happy!!!!!

Our daughter just finished her Kindergarten year at Sylvan Park and we were very pleased with our experience. Communication between the teachers, principal, and parents was great, and there was a lot of parent involvement. Our daughter thrived socially and academically and I would recommend this school to anyone.
