We have had such a wonderful experience at Lockeland Design Center. The teachers are truly exceptional, caring, engaged, and proactive in supporting each childs growth both academically and emotionally. It is very clear that they genuinely know and care about their students as individuals.
One thing that really stands out is the strength of the specials program. Art, PE, and Music are all high-quality and thoughtfully integrated, giving students a well-rounded experience beyond the core academics. My child looks forward to these classes every week.
The school community is also incredibly strong. Parents are involved, volunteer regularly, and the PTO does an amazing job organizing events that bring families together and create a positive, welcoming environment.
Academically, we have been especially impressed with the reading and math intervention support. The staff identifies needs early and steps in quickly with thoughtful, targeted help, which makes a huge difference in student confidence and progress.
Overall, LDC has exceeded our expectations in every way. Between the dedicated teachers, strong academics, excellent specials, and an engaged parent community, it has been an outstanding school experience for our family.

Sure is strange when a child can't read a full sentence of pre-k words but has all A's every report card for over 2 years. Seems like something doesn't add up, and when teacher is questioned she just says the child is right on track, that's totally unacceptable and proves that someone is just pushing a kid through without recognizing they are far behind. A second grader should be able to read age appropriate material.

The good: The parents of this school are really supportive. They volunteer and participate in school activities.
The bad: Technology is lacking, an abundance of extracurricular activities is lacking, and the facility needs to be updated. When considering the quality and method of instruction and leadership, the teachers and principal are average at best. When compared to other public schools in the area, Lockeland may rate better than average. (Although, that's not really saying much.) At the end of the day, it's another public school so set expectations low.

LDC has been a fantastic experience so far, and I don't anticipate that changing. My son loves his school, the parents are involved, the teachers seem to geniunely enjoy teaching at our school and love the kids. There are too many fun and additional activities outside of school to count, from chili art fundraisers to family math and reading nights to fall festivals, it's actually hard to keep up. We are so fortunate to have this for our kids and I wish more elementary schools were as supportive and available in metro Nashville.

Lockeland Design is a good School but not for kids with exceptional education needs as is most of Nashville. One of the biggest negatives about this school is the lack of services available for children on the AS. I guess that is more of a Tennessee issue. The lack of real diversity in this school is another big negative as well. The positives are the teachers really do care and the principle cares as well. The PTO is very involved and that helps.
