We have been in TN since 2022 , since then both my older two children have been students here. Within a 3 year span this school has had a teacher put my child on a bus after a chair fell on her head ( end of day and nurse wasnt there was the excuse for no medical attention) my child had a concussion, next year they lost my child. This year my child has been reenrolled for a month and a half and has had a injury with a teacher saying she didnt need to see a nurse even though she was bleeding. When she got home the would was filled with debris and still bleeding. I was never notified by the school or any associate of the school from ANY injury happening and my child they lost that year I found out by a absent text. These people need more training and to follow protocols as well as TN law. Its nothing but negligence and lack of care it seems.

Huge problem with the Principle supporting the teachers. No guidance, just beats the teachers down forcing them out of their profession.
No support when children hit teachers repeatedly, and no support from Human Resources. So disheartening and disappointing.

This is my daughters first year here, and she likes it, but I was expecting a little more instruction and to see text books instead of worksheets all the time.

My daughte will be going into first grade at Barkers Mill next year. We loved the school during kindergarten. All the teachers and staff were incredible and so friendly. The office staff knew me and my daughter by name.

The administration does not deal with behavior issues well. It is not well managed. The front office workers are not friendly and send out an unwelcome vibe.

The parent who wrote the below statement needs to go somewhere else. Barkers Mill is an amazing school. The admin are wonderful ladies. Front office gals are tremendous and even though i don't know the bookkeeper well, she seems like she has it together which is a great thing for a school. My children have gone to this school since K and are in 4, and 5 grade. I could not ask for a better school and people.

PTA no longer exists after one moved away Principal cares only for her apperance to others and not students The bookkeeper things she runs things The school is all about putting students into programs for more funds DO NOT GO HERE it's gone down hill over years! Which saddens me because I was in love with the school before. Administration isn't into helping children. GO HOME SCHOOL OR MOVE TO ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT

We have been at Barker's Mill for almost 5 years. We moved in when my son was in Kindergarten and he is getting ready to start fifth grade. Someone below addressed the major turnover among teachers, and a large part of that is unfortunately thanks to the military. A lot of the teachers there are military spouses and leave often. The school has high standards placed on the teachers so a few of those teachers leave because it is a rigorous teaching environment. I have multiple friends who work at this school or have worked there. As far as testing, unfortunately this is a reality of Tennessee. Tennessee has more testing and more rules than any other state I have seen. The teachers that have stayed behind seem to care a lot, and whenever we do our Back to school nights we see so many familiar faces and they all remember many students. We see a lot of the children coming back to see old teachers, talking about how they miss them etc. The teachers are very caring. The school has a family friendly feel, always has. You can go and eat lunch with your child and volunteer in the classrooms. Very warm and inviting.

I don't know how the people below had such great experiences. I had the oposite. My child's fourth grade teacher sent multiple notes home thoughout the year. They had numerous grammatical and spelling errors. The curriculum was terrible and there seems to be a huge focus on testing. TESTING DOES NOT SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS. When will the schools figure this out? They spend more time testing than learning. This school also doesn't seem to retain teachers very well. There's always an influx of new teachers that leave withing a year or two. I don't know if they are being forced out, or just finding new schools. Either way, it's not a good sign. Stay away if you value your children's education. They might test well, but they won't actualy be able to apply the knowledge later on in life.

I have had nothing but great experience's at Barkers Mill! My children love the teachers principles and other staff. II have nothing negative to say about this school. My son is a 2nd grader and has achieved reading well over expectations!

we just moved here from the stl region of mo. my son attends this school and came in the school in the second grade. let me put it this way this school was great. the kids love the weather here they get a great education. The food is good but i send him with lunch most days anyway. my child came from a private school and fit right in. many families are military so that made it easier for my child to addampt and make friends.

The school is amazing. From the front desk to the janitors and everyone in between. We have been here for 3 years. They are awesome at communicating with the parents. They are very involved in the community, and really care about the students and parents. I volunteered in this school all the time. So I really knew what was actually going on. We are moving and I am so sad to leave here. Thank you Barkersmill for all you did for us!!!!!

Where do I start? This school is terrible. The students are only learning the test material. The administration only cares about test scores. Wake up!!! Test scores aren't everything. Your child will not get a well rounded education at this school. In addition, many of the teachers are cold and don't act like they really want to be there. I think they are only in it for the paycheck. I've never seen so many rude people at one school. Oh and don't bother voicing this concern. I tried to and was basically told by the principal that she can do whatever she wants. She thinks she is better than everyone but clearly doesn't know what is going on in the school, nor does she know the first thing about teaching. I know Clarksville has bad schools, but this is one of the worst. Stay away if at all possible.

I wouldn't rate this school even one star. My child went to this school from kindergarten to part of 4th grade. My child had an IEP starting in 3rd grade due to Autism and was treated very badly by this school. .I felt my child was not safe in this school because I had to go to this school several times to complain of behaviors that were not appropriate by staff and bullying by other children. They treated my child horribly. They even locked my child in a room surrounded by adults hovering over them and the child is cowering under the desk. I know, I had to picked them up and saw that with my own eyes. .Everything was always my child's fault in their eyes I moved to a new school across town before the year was up and within a month of being in this new school, my child had an amazing 360 degree Tranformation, They had no behavioral problems, no crying everyday as you pick them up after school. No hiding in the bathrooms from kids bullying them. BarkersMill did nothing to stop the bullying. My child was in special education and That school treated my kid very badly. Beware parents! This is NOT a good school to send your children especially if the are in special education.

Barkers Mill teaches to the test rather than ensuring that the students actually know the material. Don't bring this up as a concern though. They don't care. All they care about is high test scores. What good do high test scores do is the students don't actually understand the material.

Do not send your kids here. I don't want to get into details, but this is a bad school. I am glad the new school is opening up next year. I am ready for a change.

I had high hopes for this school. The reviews were good, and the parents seemed to love it. Unfortunately, it has not lived up to he hype. I have been extremely disappointed in Barkers Mill. We came from an excellent school system, so I know what "good" schools are supposed to look like, and this is not it. This is the second year my children have attended this school, and it will be the last. The teachers have been a draw. Both years it has been one good and one bad. The administration is lacking, to say the least. They put on a good show, and I could see how parents would be satisfied if they didn't know any better. As long as you aren't one of "those" parents, you'll be fine. Question them or demand answers, however, and you'll see things from an entirely different perspective. Two years at Barkers Mill has been two years too long.

This school has really gone down hill in the last year. My child started Kindergarten here last year, despite the curriculum, the administration was great, and they were willing to work with the children and go an extra mile to get them interested and capable. The principle changed the beginning of this year and it has been one horrible cluster after the other. The lack of organization and communication is reflected in everything from the announcements to the operation of getting the children on the proper buses and proper times. Resulting in many children being left behind and buses being 3 hours late. One would think that three principles could manage to work of the one from last year, but they have not. in order for my child to be properly protected and educated I will have no other choice but to move, but I am grateful I have that option. If I had a choice of school, I would not pick this one.

This school has gone far and beyond to help our children out. The kids love it here. The teacher communictes with the parent and work with my them if they have any problems. I like their weekly letter to let us know what is going on during that week. Too bad where going to have to move again since were military.

The only reason why I rated BMES a 4-star is because no school is perfect. My 2 children have been attending this school since 2009. I have yet to have any major issues arise from the teachers and the leadership. I feel that as long as things are communicated to me in a timely manner (and they usually are) that is enough for me. My kids tell me new things everyday. I know they're learning something new daily. My kids aren't failing, as a matter of fact, they're succeeding, but I don't expect my children to have straight A's all through elementary school. They are still growing and learning. Honestly, just because a child doesn't get straight A's throughout their elementary, middle, & high school, it doesn't mean they can't graduate from college w/ Honors! We are all part of these children's successes. Afterall, these schools do have curriculums to follow to meet each grade's requirements which means it is and should be the same across the board for each teacher & class in order to pass each student.

We're a military family & have been at Barkers Mill for the past 2 years. We've done K-2nd grades between 2 boys. Our family LOVES this school! We've been very impressed with the faculty & administration. One of our boys is autisic & the school has been wonderful in helping to accomodate his needs. Normally, when meeting with staff to work on an IEP for a child...it's very painful. I can't say enough about how grateful we as parents were with the results! The staff TRULY cares about each & every student! If I could hand pick a schoo for my boys...I would pick this school. It's a very friendly, very safe environment for the kiddos. Class size is on the higher end but they work hard to higher new teachers to keep a good student to teacher ratio. The past 3 teachers we've had have been wonderful and amazing woman who truly care for thes kids!
