We sent our daughter to this school thinking it was the best option in the county. I can tell you we were sadly mistaken so much so that we are considering home schooling. Her teacher has missed more days than I can remember and one day we found out she didnt even have a substitute. They just broke the class apart and sent them to random rooms. When weve visited for lunch, we notice that no one monitors the kids in the halls. Were talking about 6 year olds so if your child doesnt return from lunch who knows where they are I guess. No one verifies any information in the car rider line. As long as you give them a childs name, they will be released to you. No tag needed. Weve had days mixed up and multiple people show up to get our daughter & its up to us to find her. Theyll only tell you that she isnt there. For this reason she has a tracker. We also got a note threatening to fine us for absences if we dont send in a note. Well we did but since her teacher was absent so much some of those never made it to the office. I started giving them directly to the office & she still gets marked as unexcused. She caught a bad respiratory infection thats required her to get breathing treatments when she wakes up, apparently that is not an excusable reason to be late. She also had a fever at school and they failed to send her home or inform us. She appeared visibly ill. On top of this school clearly not caring about your childs well being, she also has regressed this year. We put her in summer learning programs. Her state test scores showed she was doing well at the beginning of the year. We are now at the end of the year and we consistently have to reteach her concepts that she had previously mastered because she goes to school and doesnt do much of anything. Her class is unorganized and there have been numerous instances where we will ask her about concept in the lesson plan that she should be learning and she reports that they arent learning that in class. Needless to say she will not be returning in the fall. I will say the school is very festive. Plenty of dress up days.

This is the most useless school in Tipton county. The teachers do not communicate with the parents. They are spiteful towards the students when the parents come to them with a problem. Bullying is a constant problem. The principal is lazy and doesnt return calls if it has anything to do with a problem that a parent has. The whole school is money hungry. It is constantly pushing AR points (which the school receives money for). Am I against reading? No. But when I feel like the AR points are pushed for the wrong reason then yes. Im against it. My childs mother recently came to the teacher after an awards ceremony, where our child did not get an award for A B honor roll, to ask why she did not receive an award for having an 89 (B) and a 90(A) and was ghosted by the teacher. Do not send your child here.

This has been the worst school my child has ever attended. The principal is lazy and does not engage in any activities. Atoka Elem is a joke compared to other Tipton school. Bad administration is to blame.

Teachers at this school only solution to helping your child is to hold your child back or go get the child tested for ADHD

They only care about standardize test. If your child is smart, but has test anixety, they will recommend you hold them back.
Also, the do not offer additional help to kids who struggle with test anixety. You'll be better off home schooling your child, versus waiting on any help from them. Also they are quick to take your child out of IEP programs because they don't have the staff ot funds to help those kids as well.
I'm not sure how long this school will remain open, but please pay attention to what they tell you about your child. They don't care and only want a check. They aren't compassionate about teaching kids only care about test results. In my case, they knew my child was smart, but needed him to show his "smarts" on the test...

We have a little guy that just started kindergarten. We could not be happier with both the teachers and the staff. They not only recognized that he needed additional attention, but performed all of the State tests needed to enter him into the "gifted" program. In addition, they have a well-balanced curriculum to include art, music, PE, computer and library. The staff is amazing!!!!

We moved to Atoka this past February. The staff made the transition for us an easy one. Now that we have started a new school year my children love it even more. My daughter is in choir and art club. My first grader is reading so well thanks to her teacher Mrs. Davis. Everyone there is very approachable and I love how secure the building is. You must have your photo ID, and all the doors are locked. We could not be happier with this school and we are so thankful for all they do for our children.

The only thing these teachers seem concerned with is memorization of the material that will be on the year end standardized test...ALL because it has a direct effect on the TEACHER's performance/evaluation. My daughter's 3rd grade teacher is bribing the students with candy and prizes for perfect attendance during test review. It's very disappointing and just obnoxious. Anyone can teach memorization to children...where are the true "TEACHERS?!"

This is the first year for my kids at Atoka. While some of my kids are doing excellent and achieving, one of my children is having a big problem at Atoka. He has issues focusing and the school seems unable to accommodate his issue. Instead, the school tries to treat him as if focus wasn't an issue and this is not working out. I highly recommend Atoka Elementary if your kid is able to perform without much assistance from their teacher. However, if your kid has a focus issue and needs more one on one attention, stay clear of Atoka. I'm going to try out K12 next year for my kid with the focus issue since he excels at computers and online school will be right up his alley.

My child is a nice, smart, well-adjusted child who has always had lots of friends. We moved here from out of State, and we fully expected he would adjust well to Atoka Elementary. But the teacher did NOT go out of her way to be welcoming, and he was bullied continually at lunch & recess. He was so unhappy, I pulled him out. Other parents told me bullying was a "typical" problem for their boys. The school does not stop it. I have also heard that this area has a "you ain't from around here" unwelcoming mentality, and both of our children have sadly experienced this at their schools. So much for Southern Hospitality!

I am a parent who has always been involved in my child's school and teachers. But the amount of bullying that he has had to endure at this place is truely unreal. From the teachers on down and no child should have been treated the way mine was.And when you try to use the chain of command that dose not work because who is going to take the word of a child over an adult. But you have to do something when your child comes home every single day wanting things to end. So something has to be done about the our children are treated and talked .

I was very impressed with this school this year. Last year, I wasn't as impressed. If I'd rated this school last year, I would have given it 1 star, but this year 5 stars! All because of Mrs. Holliday! She made me realize how wonderful Atoka can really be! Mrs. Holliday gave so much to the kids not just present and gift, but love and time. She really renewed my faith in how teachers should be. She not only creates a relationship with the kids, but she creates relationships with the parents. She texts parents weekly just to keep us updated on all that is going on. She always lets us know when she is posting something new to the classroom blog. She takes tons of pictures of our children! I feel so blessed to have gotten her for my daughter this year as a teacher. I'm so sad we will be moving to Japan so my son won't have a chance to have her.

Excellent school! The whole school is great, teachers, office staff and principals. Mr. Dawson has always helped with issues and takes his time to know the kids. My son learned so many things, even things I didnt expect him to learn in Kindergarten. Ive been extremely pleased and very sad we are moving away from this great school.

This review is mainly being written from a customer service perspective. Just wanted to say the front office is absolutely amazing! Let me say that this was my very first year interacting with my daughters school (my daughter is a kindergartner), and the staff exceeded my expectations in getting me acclimated to the new environment, rules, and expectations. Specifically, Ms. Deborah, the kindergarten registrar is beyond professional, organized, personable, and just all around a great person to work with. After reading so many reviews of other parents experiences with their childs school...I quickly learned that Atoka Elementary sets the bar. I would give the entire staff 10 stars if I could...I'm beyond impressed!

I was very Lucky that my child went to this school for the first there years it has been open. The principal, Mrs. Fisher and her assistant principals run the school with pride and love for all the children. I was very lucky to have great teachers that really care about how your child is doing and will take the time to help your child with goals and let you know what they need to work on. I am sad to have to move and let go of such a great school and great teachers.
