I came here back in 2010 and its sad to see these reviews these children deserve better education. This school used to be a good school for children now that i see the grade average it makes me sad to see these kids not getting a proper education. I blame the teachers for not putting enough effort into teaching these children right.

Each teacher who has taught my son grades K - now, 5, have based his instruction on HIS current mastery and set learning goals to ensure his growth. He always relates what he learned each day.

The Student Culture and Climate Committee at BRS works together with the PTO, Guidance Counselor, and educators to plan activities, encourage volunteer opportunities, and praise students accomplishments big and small! There is a Character Education program in place centered around Accountable Talk. There is a Day Treatment Program with students with moderate to extreme special circumstances and conditions are treated equally, taught effectively, grow academically and socially, and are recognized for their accomplishments BIG and small.

The Leadership Team at Brownsville Road Elementary constantly engage their teachers in the best professional learning opportunities. One teacher quirked, "By the time the district implements a new policy, procedure, or curriculum change...we've already heard it about it, seen it modeled, and begun practice!"

BRS peer mediation program, managed by the guidance counselor, has a positive effect on bullying situations because students get a chance to recognize others' insecurities and practice THE GOLDEN RULE. Otherwise, bullying is not tolerated and consequences for bullying are the highest permitted by SCS up to expulsion.

My experience at this school has been positive. The things that stick out are school/teacher-parent communication, student growth, and happy teaching and learning.

Homework is given to help students learn responsibility at BRS. It is always a spiral review so skills are repeated. The practice of completing the homework (correct or not) is encouraged so students understand accountability.
