Disappointed with the lack of support for students and communication with families. Teachers seemed overworked, and important updates were often missed. The school talks about inclusivity, but in practice, some students and parents felt overlooked. Definitely not the experience we had hoped for.

As a concerned parent I am writing about our experience with La Villita. It has been radically different with the change of admin. The school seems poorly run, frantic and unfriendly. That is sad since we are a family that relocated to be in the area thinking we were moving to a family friendly school. We chose this school based off the public image that the prior admin had established. Unfortunately, our experience so far has been disappointing. My child does not feel challenged in coding, as a parent I have no idea what the coding curriculum is, or how it is taught. As a person who values education, I am concerned that the current offerings at La Villita fall short. I urge the admin to provide more transparency around the curriculum and clarify what support and resources are truly available to cultivate coding for students.
It would be nice to see more attempts at communicating with the community, but I feel as if admin is not present. That makes it difficult to connect with our school as opposed to when we were with the prior administrators. We feel less welcomed, less informed and more concerned lately.
A few other points that are of concern- the lack of safety on playground equipment, the lack of summer school programs offered, and more school activities outside of choir or fourth grade coding.
Mainly, it would be nice to feel genuinely part of my sons education and school, like we used to feel.

School administration seems very indifferent to the needs of children with special needs. My child was determined having High Functioning Autism and placed in Special Ed in KG.
One Saturday the child informed of a bulling experience during playtime the day before. It took more than a couple of weeks and repeated attempts to make an appointment with Principal.
However the meeting was a staggering disappointment. My 5 years old child clearly described what happened.
Firstly, the Special Ed teacher said that the school was not responsible of whatever took place on a Saturday. I wonder if she was even paying attention to what we said.
Then the Principal went into outlandish speculations of how what my child said may not even happened, but was perceived so. I was lost for words at her indifference.
All I hoped was that knowing that a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder will need more care, that they would do a better job at watching during the playtime. But the Special Ed said that they watch all the children alike. Obviously she lacked understanding of what child with special needs meant.
As for education, the regural teaching staff seems to be very proficient, qualified and dedicated.

Any review of this school that is positive is obviously a paid review. My daughter transferred here from Oklahoma with a learning disability (Dyslexia). Exactly 2 weeks before the Christmas break, the administration finally decided to address her Dyslexia, after weeks of the staff saying we never completed the forms. Which we did. I have the receipts to prove it. Fist day of school bullying started, and the teacher did nothing. Tried to talk to the principle, who said I should take it up with the teacher. (If the teacher would have resolved the issue why would I go above her?) My kid now studies martial arts as a result of my dissatisfaction. I'm also concerned about what my child is being taught in the "diversity" Example , She was told that she cant listen to Tom Petty Free Falling, because its Christen music. Not to mention the constant bombardment of email asking us to sign up for free meals. Which I've repeatedly said we don't need. I would also dear to say that this school is pretty left wing even though they are non-partisan (yea right)
In Short I would not suggest that academic serious parent should their kids there. I will be enrolling her a better school district at the end of the school year.

I have 2 kids going through La Villita. My oldest has had amazing teachers. She loved all of her teachers, specifically Ms. Modi. This year her new kinder teacher sent a negative email about not asking any questions- really negative. I wish Ms. Modi did not leave

I have had a good experience with La Villita Elementary. I like the diversity of students, the strong teaching staff, the parental involvement and outreach, and the facilities. My child is receiving a good education here.

The school has adopted a planner system for daily conduct and assignment reviews. There are school wide literacy campaigns that require daily reading, and the occasional project.

From my two years of experience as a parent of a La Villita student, a starting kindergartner unable to read will within the school year be brought to grade level and on track for first grade.

My son is passing out from 5 th grade this year.I could not have asked for a better school. From academics to sports to discipline and most importantly giving children a safe and encouraging environment to flourish this school has it all . The school 's teachers and it's hard working principal have brought this school to a level where even private schools can't reach .

Great school. My son is in the 2nd Grade now. All the teachers he had so far were exemplary. Like 10 yrs exp. in teaching with Masters in Education.

Pretty average school. Extra curricular activities are to the minimum. The teachers don't pay attention to provide extra material for children too.

Our son was here in Kindergarten and is now a First Grader. He really loves to go to school. The school, the teachers and the parents are completely involved and forward thinking, preparing the 1st graders on a social, intellectual and participatory level. I am amazed how well they are doing in Mathematics, English, spelling and reading, Science and PE.

We currently have a first grader at this school. We have been extremely pleased with the school over the last two years. I am consistently impressed with the variety of topics that my child tells me they learned about on a daily basis. Homework consists of spelling and expected reading for 20 - 30 minutes per evening. I'm very impressed with the teachers and staff. They are extremely attentive and know how to best motivate and inspire my child to learn. The teachers are also very willing to meet or provide clarifying information via email. I am also able to keep up with my child's progress since I can access assignment grades online. We are very pleased with this school.

I just took my child out of this school. I was very displeased with the fact that no homework was ever given. I was also told that they work too hard during the school day. Very disturbing! With so many students in one class, how can one instructor meet the needs of every child? One assignement was brought home during the whole school year, and my child was expected to remember the instructions for this assignment that were given in school! Are you kidding me? Even as an adult, I need to write things down to help me remember after a long day of information has been pounded in my head. My child did not remember, and was given a low grade due to this. I felt as if the total year was a waste, and I had no clue of how to assist her, with having no idea of what was being taught. That type of weight should not be placed on one instructor alone. As a parent, and one who is very capable of helping my child, I should be able to supplement and reinforce exactly what is being taught in school. At the school where my child currently attends, I am able to reinforce the homework that is given, and actually feel as if the information given is well understood. It is a team effort!
