They teachers barely help my daughter out even her help teacher does not help her and her english teacher hits her and these young teachers do not know how to teach their only there for the money and they also just put work in their faces not even teaching them what to do and theres always fights and bullying and nobody seems to care the teachers are very rude and messy i fell like they need to shut it down TXEAS EMPOWERMENT ACADEMY IS NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE

I enrolled my children in 8th and 4th grade at Texas Empowerment Academy. Before school started, I submitted both of their IEP paperwork. Four weeks into the school year, not only have no services begun, but their teachers were unaware that IEPs even existed. That was my first concern — but unfortunately not the only one.

The teachers here focus more on authority and control than actual teaching. They frequently scream and yell at students. They use the “clap for attention” method, which many schools do, but instead of simply ensuring the class gets quiet, they single out kids who don’t clap — even if the child is already quiet. Those students are reprimanded or even forced to stand in the corner with their nose against the wall. Since starting here, my 9-year-old has developed anxiety and now cries at drop-off. When I raised this, staff told me it was about “setting the tone of obedience, respect, and being on one accord.” To me, it feels more like unnecessary power struggles — because if a child is quiet, why not let them be? Forcing them to clap causes a bigger disruption than the silence ever did.

It also seems that students who are staff members’ children or close to them get very different treatment. Some parents have apparently agreed to allow rulers to be used for discipline, which is troubling.

The breaking point came at dismissal. The bus driver, whose child is also a student, stopped to reprimand him for misbehavior. Other students began recording, and my child was accused of recording too. When he refused to let staff check his phone, he was thrown off the bus. He then called me for a ride. Staff demanded he hang up on me and even tried to physically take the phone from his hand. When he refused, they expelled him — for his first disciplinary incident — claiming he was “disrespectful and defiant.”

This school is on a power trip. It is more about control and forced obedience than teaching, and it has caused real harm to my children. Parents, beware.

This school is horrible. Four kids grades 1,5,10,8 all came home one day stressing to me how the teachers were disrespecting the student. They would make very racist comments. How the teachers wouldn't help them understand a topic for instance my daughter has trouble learning math and staying focus, she would ask for help and the teacher would constantly belittle her making her and the rest of my kids feeling less of a person. They also allowed bullying, and were part of the bullying from time to time. PLEASE I warn and beg you not to send your children here!

The school and the principal along with the other teachers are very proactive. The accommodate the academic needs a and human development of the children.

Don't even consider taking your children here. Do some research on the teachers that the school hires. The school does not do background checks.

I strongly disagree with the previous comments. This is truly an amazing school doing great things for the students. The teachers do not yell at my child and he loves it there. My son learns things about his culture that he can't learn at a cookie cutter school district. If you ask me, the school districts are going down hill fast. At least at Texas Empowernment, the children build relationships with the teachers and gain a solid education. Great school if you're willing to work with the teachers and you truly care about your child's education.

When I first went to this school I thought it was a great school. Unfortunately by my second year, the school began to go down hill. The principal happened to be a disappointment, he disrespected his staff and students. Please don't consider this school. It's for your own good.

My son came to it with a special education need, caused by his prior environment. In the three years he was at TEA, his grades and scholastic attitude improved dramatically, and he was (thoughtfully) dismissed from ARD (special ed) into general education. The principal is an extremely dedicated and personable educator, the teachers smart and capable, and the education first rate.

I THINK THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SCHOOL! I NOTICED MY SON HAD MORE WORK THAN HE EVER HAD DURING HIS WHOLE TIME IN SCHOOL. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL. I LOVE THE SMALLNESS OF THE CLASSES.
