Evans does a wonderful job of instilling the MISD values of every student every day. They are a certified AVID school, encouraging positive study habits and interest in higher learning throughout the entire campus. Evans is also the designated ESL campus for the district and manages the program extremely well. Unfortunately, the test scores for students just learning English are averaged in and reflect a lower “grade” however if you dig deeper into the data, you will see scores across the student population are good.

WHAT A JOKE! Been dealing with McKinney PD to file harrassment charges because the school administration - most especially the new principal - were flat out doing nothing to remedy the blatant issues occuring with our children. We arre among 4 of the families that have gone to the PD because school would not protect the victims. They do not enforce the MISD student code of conduct, bullying/harrassment policy either.

1-10 scale, we'd rate Evans a 3. Our kids have made the best of their situation from the good teachers, friends, and activities they are involved in.

Poor teacher communication with parents. Little to none. Summative assignments and quarterly tests not communicated about. Students not given correct dates, or dates at all to put in planners. Often last minute test date/assignment changes. Teachers not mantaining websites, Google docs, ect for student use outside of class. Administrators not enforcing teachers to use technology and email commucation for students/parents.

Many lack effective classroom management skills being <2 years classroom experience. Tutoring is expected by teachers and of the students. Our family had so many experiences with teachers not showing up for assigned tutoring days while students sat outside their door in the halls, or were told to go to another teacher after school because their teacher couldn't stay. ALL teachers offer tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday before/after school.
As the principal and teachers have been asked . . . If your student is absent for a few days, or is struggling in multiple classes, HOW are they supposed to attend tutoring for all their classes (4-5 of them) in 2 days and make up ALL re-teaching, classwork, tests, ect . . .
The administration has been unwilling to stagger tutoring within the departments to accomomodate the student's (ie: M/W: Science & ELAR; T/TH: Math & History F: electives) - just throwing out an example because the way they currently do it does not work.

There is little relationship between the school and its students other than what happens in the classroom. With all the bad that goes on inside the school that no one does anything about, I know more students who are leaving Evans for other middle schools, are severely anxious and highly depressed teens.

New principal, inexperienced in middle school population, fear of instilling policies and procedures.
Bullying is OUT OF CONTROL at this school and she is completely ill-equiped to handle it, often ignoring illegal and outlandish behavior.

Teachers have to be reminded of students needs. When a student attempts to "self advocate" they are told to "go sit down" or the teachers ignore that they have a student asking for help. They miss the clues of a struggling students.
Don't expect any outside information about your students' needs to be given any credence. Need testing... wait the standard MISD time limit of 5-6 months. L

Bullying is out of control and nothing is done about it. Lack of Teacher/Principal Involvement. Run and find a better school to put your child in. The Administration had their "heads in the sand," and just accepts things because they have the mentality, "Kids will be kids."

Evans Middle School has an excellent NJHS program, as they have won two national campaigns, and many students have received scholarships. Manyof the teachers are great, and they always remember the needs of the students before themselves. The students are courteous to eachother, and the UIL program here is great, as all three years my daughter has been here they have gotten in the top three.

I don't think that this school is all exciting.... but it's not badish.... I had a teacher in 7th grade who didn't tell us things beforehand on projects so on some of those projects me and my friend had to start over on a part of that.... Also the food's pricey and weird. One time when I got a sandwich I found a black moldy hole on it...... The thing that I like is the kids don't really bully... cause I heard from some kid that Cockrill bullies and Dowell steals. But I became friends with some kids who go to that school and they're pretty nice. Also Evans is a little too big... and we only get 4 minutes to walk from class to class. Even if you have to walk all the way from one end to the other. I'm going into 8th grade and the only thing I look forward to is going into advanced art. My teachers signed me up for Pre AP classes without me knowing so that kinda caught me off guard... Overall same old same old. Some teachers are ok and some arent.
