Ed Walker is honestly a horrible school that feels gross and uncaring, the teachers are unhelpful and act like they don’t want to be there, and the counselors don’t listen at all when students actually need support, instead of helping they judge you and make you feel worse, which seriously affects mental health in a negative way, the environment feels toxic rather than safe, and instead of encouraging growth it breaks students down, overall it’s a really disappointing place that fails the kids who depend on it

Estamos muy contentos en esta escuela. No solo se enfocan en lo academico, sino también en lo social.

I have a current 7th and 8th grader at Walker and could not be happier with our experience. The classes are challenging, the curriculum is diverse, the teachers are involved and caring and there are numerous extracurricular activities and athletics for students to get involved in. If you are looking for a safe, well-rounded middle school experience for your child Walker could be the perfect fit. The Principal is always willing to set up 1:1 appointments and tours. I promise it is well worth your time.

My experience there was amazing! I had fantastic coaches and good teachers. The diversity was great and the kids were nice.I built many good relationships there and would recommend it to anyone.

According to my kids there are no bullies here.

Posted: March 4, 2020

As parents, we are involved. My kids are involved in sports, clubs and activities. My kids make straight A's, involved in sports, have great friends and stay out of trouble. They are preparing for High School. Not sure what more you could want in Middle School.

Posted: March 4, 2020

Our kids have projects they complete at home sometimes. No "busy work" homework

Posted: March 4, 2020

Teachers have been great and care about kids and their learning. Not uncommon to see teachers at extracurricular activities cheering kids on.

Posted: March 4, 2020

Our kids are involved and especially coaches focus on character development

Strong Principal, Teachers and Coaches. From my experience good communication

Posted: March 4, 2020

I can't speak to this. I am unaware.

Posted: February 5, 2020

My daughter had an incident in her 3-4th period class where a boy (of all people) repeatedly punched my daughter in the arm and the teacher did nothing, saw nothing, and now we're dealing with the principal directly. The boy will probably get a "stern talking to" as discipline.

Posted: February 5, 2020

I don't like this school and my children will be transferred, again. I dislike DISD period.

Posted: February 5, 2020

Rarely do my children get homework from any teachers.

Posted: February 5, 2020

I have an 8th grader in this school currently who was called "useless" and "worthless" to the whole class, pointed out my daughter specifically. This teacher does not pay attention to what is happening in her class. My daughter was punched repeatedly in the arm by a boy and this same teacher saw/did NOTHING.

Posted: February 5, 2020

I am neutral on this because the Coach that's there cares a LOT about the children and their character. I cannot say the same for other teachers.

Posted: February 5, 2020

The principal is lax on responding to emails in a timely manner. A particular teacher said she wanted to tutor one of my children and only shows up half the time. Another teacher called her class "useless" and literally told them she "didn't care anymore," and they'd have to "teach themselves the material." They do not teach boundaries or respect.

Posted: February 5, 2020

Neutral on this on because my student's teacher wanted to "tutor" her but only shows up half the time. My daughter is highly-functioning autistic and needs extra help, which is not available half the time.

Posted: April 5, 2018

Have not had an issue with my child being bullied.

Posted: April 5, 2018

The students only have homework if they do not finish in class assignments, or have to work on special projects.

Posted: April 5, 2018

The few teachers that stay are amazing and are there to really teach the kids. While the subs could care less it seems. My daughter has had many subs and they all give free time instead of teaching them any little thing they could.

Posted: April 5, 2018

The school does try to make the students turn into great young adults, but a lot of the students are rude to the teachers and their classmates. Students are constantly walking the halls during class time, and some steal things from others and insult others and are not properly reprimanded for their actions.

Posted: April 5, 2018

The new principal is very nice and has some amazing ideas for changing the school for the better, unfortunately the students attending now may now benefit from these changes.

Posted: April 5, 2018

Posted: April 5, 2018

Not that great, I am sure in another year or two E.D. Walker will be a better school. Sadly the students attending now are suffering from the lack of care towards their learning. There are a few teachers who try their hardest and they are amazing, but when you have a sub who gives you free time for 2 months how do you expect the students to pass a test on something they have not learned. I will not be sending my daughter back here next year for her last year of middle school.

Posted: November 7, 2017

I won't go back. Its completely choatic and nobody seems to know what is going on.

Posted: November 7, 2017

I have not seen any evidence that children are taught to respect each other or adults.

Posted: November 7, 2017

Students are out of control and very disrespectful to the teachers. They kids don't even have to wear ID badges and there is no discipline or structure at this school.

I have been a parent here for four years. The school continues to improve each year, especially under the leadership of Dr. Stout. There are now 12 pre-high school AP classes being offered, dual language and tons of extra-curricular activities to keep the kids engaged. I have no regrets in sending my three kids here and would do it again if I had to make the choice.

Doesn't do what it needs to do to be the best middle school in Dallas. It's in a great area, but can't get neighborhood kids to attend. Should have more STEM type programs to attract parents away from private schools.

This school is horrible. The principal, Dr. Stout does not know what she is doing. There have been 19 fights this semester alone. It all started when she announced on the intercom that if we fought, we would go to DAEP. Of course nothing happened to the people who fought, so everyone wants to fight now. Then she has is going to this draft class which we hate and the teachers hate. It shortens our classes that we really need. It causes us to have to attend 8 classes in one day. This is so tiring. The teachers even hate it. Supposedly, the principal wants the rich kids in the neighborhood to come to this school, so she doesn't want anyone to know what goes on here. Kids fight and there are no consequences. I actually fear for my life, but I can't go to another school because this is the school I'm assigned to. She doesn't even treat the teachers like professionals from what I hear. She makes them clock out as if they are hourly, plus she has them working 15 minutes past the district time. I know that part because my mom's friend is friends with a teacher there and she tells my mom. This school is on a one way trip to the bottom with the principal leading the way.

I like math and band there so much fun for me I love band more better I play the flute

The overall environment was on-and-off uncomfortable and unsafe. The teachers, for the most part, sympathized with us dearly on the tiring work we had to endure, but others were ones that most people cowered under. For example, my friend, who tried avoiding her strict teacher one day because of her absents and low grades, was caught hiding in the reading classroom during lunch and was furiously yelled at, which caused her to run to the cafeteria and cry in front of us (she was usually an upbeat person). For example, the sick student who was forced to do push-ups for an extended period of time imposed by a gym teacher.
Typically there were the "bad" kids who did anything to cause trouble and go against authority, which we had to brace the punishments because everyone was included in discipline. But when it got to the point that they were regularly blocking the stairwells during passing periods, placing stink bombs, throwing food fights almost every week, and causing a standoff between themselves and the principal in an emergency assembly because of "our" behavior, it was really, really annoying. I realized that there was barely any school spirit by the time I got to the last year. No one really comes to donate stuff in the boxes sent to charity (aka the people excessively reminding us that we have to). You can't go to a dance or event in this school without paying any money for food and such because of the low budget. And only about 10-15 people (including parents) show up to concerts.
This school literally felt like I was in a prison. A month to the end of the school year, we had silent lunch because of several incidents. We were also strangely hunted down for being anywhere but in the cafeteria for lunch and were either kicked out of rooms or dashed to the most friendly teacher in the vicinity. Sometimes, when we were being exceptionally good, they released us outside into the courtyard for the last few min of lunch and treated it as recess. I noticed during a competition that most of us were being more hyper than the other schools' kids whenever we went to different places. It honestly made us so jealous of the freedom they had. I remember on the first day of school in 8th grade when 10 students were sent to ISS because they lacked a belt. I passed by a girl whispering to her friend, "This school's strict." Good luck.
