My experience at this school has been horrible . Very bad customer service the Principal does not engage or care about students or parents . The asst principal should be the principal as he is the only one who shows caring about the children . The nurse tells parents she cant help there kids and calls them to go home as much as she can . They have no integrity or professionalism please do not bring your kids to this school you will be disappointed.

Principal Goecke was the main issue with the non acceptance of multicultural students. She was passive with behavioral issues as well as not taking bullying seriously.

The transition to Principal Britt was a bit better but still not inclusive.

The GT department has never performed efficiently and did not prepare my child for the rigor of dual credit courses.

The schools campus and PTA spent a lot of money on frivolous matters instead of the students and enhancing education. It felt greatly disconnecting and was also not inclusive.

Overall, our K-5 experience was not positive. I would not recommend this campus nor LISD.

We moved into the District from out of State and were nervous that our son would have a hard time fitting in and making new friends. A year and a half in we are very happy with our sons social and educational development. The staff is mindful and caring. They do not promote nor tolerate bullying. The teachers all seem to go above and beyond to both challenge the individual students and keep the parents engaged and informed. We absolutely loved principal Britt and were sad to see her leave, but we haven't seen any drop off in our son's behavior or academics. He is always happy to go to school and offers no complaints when he gets home.

Currently, this school has a large volume of meetings, which causes grade level teams to work past contract hours to plan meaningful learning experiences with an IB foundation woven throughout its core. In addition, there are many students who are of high needs and SpEd who really need to be placed in an environment that is most appropriate for their developmental, physical, social-emotional, and academic well-being. This school is not equipped with IA's and SpEd teachers co-teaching in every classroom, which would make a world of a difference. The SpEd team itself is spread thin and the counselors' case loads not only for these students, but other general education students is extensive.

In addition, although teaching staff works well together, Admin has micromanaged, which has impacted morale. Specials teachers are being pulled to fill in when sub cancels due to the sub shortage, which impacts their planning for a high quality experience. Safety is of huge concern amongst staff as some students verbally or physically try to harm teachers and other students. Discipline is not being followed through for major issues like what is being mentioned. Therefore, students of major concern aren't learning that their decisions can lead to worse consequences later on in life.

We had to withdraw one of our kids and transfer.

School has a long way to go academically and in terms of positive integration.

A few good teachers, but LISD needs to make a grander effort in screening and recruitment. There are veteran teachers who have been allowed to stay that are doing the bare miniumum.

Visually supports diversity but not integrated. The parents struggle including in PTA. Not in tune with current needs. When speaking to principal, administration or district, they qre not responsive to suggestions or reports.

Matters are dismissed to protect friends in the system instead of childrens needs.

My kids have gone to this school for their entire elementary careers and so I have gotten to know the school and the people who run it pretty well over the years, both before and during Covid. Are they all perfect? No. None of us are. But does that stop them from trying to do heroic things for each and every student? Even when the cards are stacked against them by outside forces and no one else wants their jobs? No. They still try. Ive volunteered there a lot over the years and have seen plenty of times when a teacher has had to correct a childs behavior. Not once has it appeared like there was any preference for one class or nationality over another it all has to do with their behavior, not their skin color or the economic status of their parents. The reality is that kids screw up, ALL OF THEM, and they get corrected. Period. Its called the learning process.
As part of Grandview Hills, my anglo kids have best friends of ALL nationalities. And as part of the IB curriculum, they are required to and ENJOY learning about customs and languages and the heritage of ALL of their fellow students. And its the norm -- as in, the kids dont know what it means to be a non-IB student. And they definitely DO get to have all kinds of fun dress-up days, like getting to wear pajamas or costumes or tie dye or tutus, or whatever the staff dream up to LET THEM BE KIDS! Thank goodness that there is a place where my kids can go to have fun while they learn, especially while the world seems to spin out of control around them. And we love seeing the adults have fun right along with them!
I hope that everyone that goes to Grandview Hills Elementary has the positive experience that we have had. And I REALLY hope that if someone has a problem with something going on in the school, that they would take the more effective and appropriate and mature action to reach out to the Principal and work together to solve any problems they may be having. Just throwing anonymous bombs on social media and basically claiming that the school is the devil on earth isnt constructive. Or fair. Or real.
For the new folks coming to the District, you should take a tour sometimes it is led by students! GHE believes in student agency, and the students know the school better than anybody. Meet the Principal. Talk to the staff. Go see for yourself, and then make YOUR OWN judgement.

Remedial Academics with no enrichment nor homework. Most teachers, staff, and parents perpetuate racist attitudes and narratives, as reported on other Leander ISD campuses. The school is made up of mostly withdrawn/isolated Anglo children and parents with little social skills or professional orientation. Teachers and administration exhibit poor and awkward behavior, inappropriate dress for school premises and display a lack of worldliness or inclusion necessary for an IB school.

Children that are multicultural and isolated and bullied by staff and students are ignored and dismissed.

There is not a lot of homework at GHE, but when there is... it is all about reading! My children have rarely, if ever, received a worksheet for homework.

The teachers and IB curriculum encourage the children to work through problems together, thinking critically. The teachers and staff do an excellent job nurturing the children and exposing them to deep concepts with real world practicality.

My two children come home everyday happy, mentally challenged and more developed. The concepts of IB make such an holistic impact in your child's health and well-being. I am very lucky to have found this school.. it's a like the best private school in Austin, but without the fees!!

Before we moved into the area, we researched districts and schools around Austin before choosing LISD and Grandview Hills. We wanted an IB school that was diverse, as well as a smaller school so our kids didn't feel like they got lost. Our kids feel very connected here and I love that we have gotten to know the teachers and families at our school!

All grade levels encourage reading daily, so I love that! Once they got into the habit of reading daily for 20 minutes, their love for reading grew. So the reading homework no longer seems like homework since they enjoy it.

Since our school is smaller, teachers get to know our kids better. They are able to encourage them because they see and recognize improvements they are making.

I don't know how our principal and vice principal do it. They are there from sun up until late afternoon and into the evenings frequently. They are always upbeat and encouraging. They respond to my emails in a timely fashion ( I can't even imagine how many emails they get each day!).

I hear from my kids how their friends are helped. I'm amazed by the amount of help that is available at our school. My kids have dyslexic, ADHD friends, and kids who have just plain fallen behind--all that are able to get help either thru after school tutoring or special assistance from specially trained professionals (I'm blanking on their titles!) throughout the day.

My kids have learned and thrived at Grandview Hills. They were able to be very competitive in Middle school and High School in an academically demanding school district. My oldest child is now attendjng Texas A&M and studying engineering.

I have debated for months if I want to even rate this school. Then if I did, how would I rate it? The first 6 years were fine and the last 3 were bad enough that I withdrew my youngest and transferred to a different school within the district. In the end though, I learned ALOT through this ridiculous journey that I never wanted to take and I would like to share some advise that I wish with all the time I didn't really have that I wasted that someone would have told me. I am a business owner with 3 kids so I really didn't have the bandwidth to deal with all of the problems happening here which I think were mostly caused by a principal who wasn't doing her job and all the trickle down problems that come after that. The principal is the heart and soul of these schools. The difference between my first 6 years and my last 3 years in dealing with the school was a different principal. Look, I could write a novella on all the things that started going wrong for us the moment the new one started but that would be fruitless and at any rate my family, an embarrassing number of other families, many of our teachers and this 3 year principal have all since left. My advise is before you enroll your children in the school, interview the principal and talk to the parents (whether the PTA president or just random parents) then decide if the school will work. What is the energy like? What is the attitude? Do the parents participate? Is the principal there? (ours was inaccessible and absent) What sort of goals does the school have and metrics for measuring things (the last 3 years, the administrator at both the school and the district weren't really demonstrating accountability and were surprised the parents asked)? The other thing is trust your gut. I'm not even sure this principal was coming to work on a regular basis and frankly, I've never met anyone before who worked so hard at not doing his or her job ! If you don't think this school is a good fit for your kids then it's easy enough to transfer to a different near by one. This school is an IB school and it's just not for everyone. My kids all sat academically above the bell curve and have no behavior issues and it really wasn't a great fit for any of them, though it was certainly worse when this lady took over and stopped focusing on academics. Anyway, do your homework before you commit!

I changed my review. The principal this year is organized and experienced and it shows! A huge improvement overall from last year. The teachers seem happier as well. Perhaps as more of this leadership's goals are implemented, I will rate this a 5 star school. I am impressed so far.

Both of my children have attended GVHE since kindergarten. My oldest is now at Four Points Middle School. Both of my children are high achieving students and are in the PACE/QUEST programs of the district. GVHE is an IB school, and the smallest elementary in the district. The social/emotional intelligence IB has taught my kids far outweighs any program I experienced as a student myself. And I can see in the middle school that the GVHE kids come in as more understanding and empathetic kids than the kids from the other feeder elementary. The academic rigor is far beyond what I learned in Texas public schools as an advanced student myself (I attended both public and private elementary schools and taught middle school in Texas) and my middle schooler has had no trouble adjusting to the expectations of 6th grade advanced coursework. All schools should have the learning environment that GVHE provides its students. I LOVE this school.

As an educator myself, I have been involved in many different schools over the past 20 years. Both of my children have attended this school and I have been thrilled with the level of rigor, with the teachers, and both sets of administration. IB places others at the forefront of my children's minds rather than solely looking at our small community. I appreciate the diversity and am pleased with the values that my children are learning.

We have two children at this school and have had an excellent experience, particularly since Jennifer Andjelic (formerly Farley) took over. From time to time, I've had concerns in the classroom, as is expected, and I've always received courteous feedback and swift action to those concerns. One of my children has been identified as a top performer (Quest and PACE) and our other child has a unique learning style and struggled for a few years. Both children have received the education they need with just a few minor bumps in the road. There are many extraordinary teachers at GHE, the counselor is top-notch, the PE team is incredible, the parent volunteers and PTA are very involved, and the administrators care about educating the whole child. Additionally, children at GHE can participate is low-cost, PTA-sponsored enrichment programs after school, like Garden Club (did I mention there is a school garden?!?), Running Club, Math Pentathlon, Robotics, FLL, Yearbook Club, and Chess Club! The school is outstanding!

My kids have been students at GVH for the last four years. There experience has been nothing short of fantastic! They both love that it is a smaller elementary campus and I love that they hold firm to a small class size. For example, last year my third grader only had 18 students in her class. The teachers are held to high standards, and I have witnessed that those who are not capable of reaching those standards don't return the following year. One of my two kids has a more challanging learning style. The teachers at GVH are accustomed to working with kids of alll learning styles and my child has thrived without any special education resources. Classrooms are based on learning methods that are engaging for young kids and the bonus is GVH is the only IB Elementary school in LISD. You won't find kids bogged down with worksheets or rote learning at GVH! The new principal, Jennifer Farley, is engaging and appropriately addresses campus issues. She has taken the time to come in and get to know the GVH families and is dedicated to a fun and enriching environment. As a former teacher, I could not be more pleased with the preparation my kids are getting from GVH!

My children are in the 3rd grade and Kindergarten. During our 4 years there, I've been thrilled with Grandview Hills Elementary School. It was icing on the cake it being an IB school. The staff and teachers are absolutely excellent. They teach to the individual and both my children have been encouraged to achieve to the best of their own abilities. The older one is in the Quest program and the Quest teacher is absolutely wonderful and inspires and is inspired by the children. The school also has an excellent Pace program. The PTA is very strong and there are many parents intimately involved with helping with meeting the children's needs. The after-school YMCA program is strong, too. The wonderful former principal left last year, but her replacement has picked up where she left off and is doing great. The school is not yet at full capacity which means small classes, too! I highly recommend Grandview. Go Eagles!

After a great beginning in kindergarten, due to a wonderful and engaged teacher, my granddaughter is experiencing a terrible year in first grade. She is a bright and creative child, who began with a love of school and learning, but we have long suspected she fell somewhere on the autism scale. In the interest of keeping her educational experience positive, my daughter made her new teacher and principal aware of the struggles her daughter was experiencing. After finally receiving a diagnosis of high functioning autism, my daughter met with the school in an attempt to find out any resources that could be made available to this child. The staff, including teacher,, guidance counselor and principal indicated that their opinion was that this child was a disciplinary problem and presented a united front of nonreceptive and nonnegotiable indifference. Needless to say, her parents are locating outside resources and working on finding a school more sympathetic to this child's needs and willing to actively seek solutions instead of being more concerned with protecting their reputations.

If you want your kid to be in a military style environment, this is the place you'll want them to be. My child was bullied and harassed here not just by other students but by the teachers as well and it was done in front of their peers. The peers would then harass even more out on the playground. My child was an A honor roll student before going here, and began failing within two weeks. She cried almost every single day. The others harassed her so bad she couldn't even get her work done at school. When I reported this, it fell on deaf ears and I got a whole lot of lip service. I was surprised to learn, after mine transferred, that many parents did the same thing, got their kids out of there because of the lack of guidance, nurturance, encouragement and caring environment. I spoke with other parents that encountered their children failing as well from sudden self esteem issues. Mostly 5th grade classes. Going here was a very traumatic experience for mine. Also teachers were not keen on me being involved in the classroom, it's like they wanted to keep parents out of the school during the school day.

I am not happy with this school at all. The teachers that I have met should not be teaching at all, and the resources available at the school are lacking. They are working to catch up with the STAAR standards, which they should have taught all along, but now they are playing catch up and the students are suffering because of the vast change in curriculum from the previous years. We moved to this district because the school was rated exemplary - it is not a surprise to me that the rating dropped - I do not see much hope with the current teachers and administration, of that rating being upgraded in the near future.

My daughter has attended this school for the past two years and we have been happy with it overall. We like the fact that the school focuses on all round development vs academics alone. Parent involvement is great and Principal Cruz is a great leader. Couldn't have asked for more.

We love Grandview Hills and are happy to send four of our children there! The teachers and staff are very caring, kind and provide a safe place to learn. There are many great parent volunteers and the PTA is outstanding. With such small class sizes our children are able to get more one on one attention. We are thrilled to be a part of such a great environment.

All of my kids go to this school. We don't like it very much. Our kids have attended private schools and public schools in the northeast. The curriculum is horrible. The Quest and Pace programs are a joke. The notion that IB is setting these kids up for success is comical. These programs do not challenge the kids. Homework consists of writing five words in alphabetical order or writing them three times. Ridiculous. Teachers listen to beer drinking songs in class with the kids (my son has come home singing them). The parent population is over active. The kids spend A LOT of time trying to raise money for the PTA which is like a high school clique. We should spend more time on academics and less time on fundraising. It seems that once the STAAR is taken, teaching at GVHE stops. During the school year, I several times went into the school to pick up my kids only to find my daughter out in the hallway lined up 30 minutes before school lets out. Add that up and see how much classroom time is being given up during the school year. Teachers and administrators are nice, but at its core this school is a typical example of a Texas public school. Lean on substance, but everything looks good.
