This school truly cares about it's students. They make sure we are prepared not only for college and life. If you are an entitled student or someone who believes whatever they want, they should get, well, you won't do well at this school. VVEC builds a family atmosphere where we all are challenged, where we are given the opportunity to grow, and where the complete student is cared for. For most students here, there isn't a better school for them in the city. This school has the best administration, faculty and staff of any school in the city. If you choose to attend VVEC, you couldn't make a better decision.

As a student I beg each prospective student and parent to seriously consider doing dual credit programs at a regular high school or alternative charter schools. You will not have a high school experience and you won't have a college one either. The school expects you to take adult courses and act accordingly but will regard you as children. I graduated from Valle Verde as one of the top ten students, so this advice is coming from someone who was academically successful here. Luckily I now attend an elite school in New England and can recognize the failures in the Texas public school system. To this day I hesitate to voice concerns due to my experience at Valle Verde. I urge anyone considering this school to reconsider and not take the matter lightly. It may be a good financial choice if you are set on going to a public college in Texas but if your sights are set higher then this is not the best option for you.

The homework given at this school takes a quantity over quality approach. The work does not prepare one for the course load and assignments given at prestigious colleges.

Some great teachers are here but they are few and far between.

The administrative staff does not respect students. They think because we are a low-income, young, predominantly Mexican-American student population we don't have the resources to speak out (parents with lawyers or education who can advocate for us, social and economic capital).

Principal Covey conditions his students to be submissive and powerless. He is not respectful of their opinions and can be very dismissive of their concerns. Teachers also exhibit some of his behavior (probably due to Covey and his leadership). This type of treatment sets students up for failure when they need to advocate for themselves in settings such as predominantly white institutions.

As a parent, I saw my child grow not only intellectually but he also matured as a person. He will be attending Texas Tech in the fall and he is prepared to be successful. I am grateful to the facility and staff for treating him as he was their own child and nurturing his special gifts.

This school is the perfects school any student can ever imagine! This is my second year here and all of us, including the teachers, are just like a family. We not only get to graduate with two diplomas, but we also have normal high school experiences like homecoming, prom, spirit week, etc. The variety of clubs we have allows everyone to explore their interests, and if not, it's easy to start a club of your own! I love VVECHS and even after i graduate, i will remain a Spartan forever <3
