The teachers, principal and staff are fantastic. I highly recommend this school. I wish it were a bit more diverse but overall great experience for my child.

We have been blown away by our experience at Ben Milam, with the principal and staff, and the services provided to our special needs kiddo. We absolutely love how small the school is and that all the teachers call the children by name, not just the children in their classroom. The principal is UNBELIEVABLY gifted and a pleasure to work with!!! In the 3 years we have been on campus, I have never once seen her flustered or unkind to anyone. She is patient, wise, generous with her time, and exceptionally gifted in working with children as well as managing an incredible team of teachers. We moved across town and still drive to this school (even though it is much further away) because of the principal, size of the school, and the heart of the teachers. I just wish there was a way to sing their praises more.

This school is terrible. The staff and its new, unnecessary vice principal are completely unprofessional.

We recently left Ben Milam elementary. This was our first year in public school. From day one there was one problem after another. Mostly issues with the staff members. Lack of leadership.
This was by far the worst experience. We moved to uptown thinking that William B. Travis would be our home school.

My school is excellent! My daughter will be a new student at Ben Miliam for this starting 2013 school year. I made it my #1 goal to get her in this particular school, after seeing personally the great noted improvement in a couple of my friends kids when switched to Ben Miliam Elementary School.

As a former teacher at Ben Milam, I disagree with the previous parent's review. This school does have very dedicated teachers, but to state that the current principal has "not lifted a finger to provide anything extra" is absolutely not true. One should be careful when making assumptions about why teachers make the decision to leave a school. I think much of the teacher's frustration is most likely due to the poor management and corruption of the district as a whole. A principal only has so much control over these issues. Also, I'm not sure that staying at school until 7:00 and working Saturdays is healthy and/or beneficial for teachers, students or principals!

The current principal stepped into a golden opportunity. There has been very little teacher turnover since my children have been at Ben Milam (10 years). Each teacher at this school gives 110%, allowing the principal to leave at 4 while the teachers stay till 7 and work Saturdays. There is much frustration with the principal as shown in (OHI) reports, that can be viewed by the public. These reports indicate that the teachers feel micro-managed and under utilized. Unfortunately, some great teachers have left Ben Milam because of the principal's top-down management style. Any technology, grants, after-school activities, supplies from other schools, money for equipment and supplies are due to the dedicated teachers going the extra mile to provide the students with what they need. The principal has not lifted a finger to provide anything extra for the faculty, staff and students.
