This school is so unprofessional and lacks many things I'll set that aside and go to the people there.I can say the office and a handful of the teachers are just so rude and even unqualified no one cares about the actual kids and how their high school experience is they just care about how it looks on the outside. I'd compare this school to a prison. when rules are broke the consequences are far more harsh then the crime also they love switching up the rules just my mouth not pen and paper not in a handbook just what they say and if your lucky you will be 1st to know so you can change yourself accordingly. I can for sure say the principle is only power hungry and very unhelpful with communication skills or just helping students with a problem. Thats only the top things on my list too

So at the beginning I liked it. But the last couple years (I think mainly it’s high school) I have had issues with them.
Last year I found that parents didn’t need to be updated on UIs. I don’t have an issue with the drug screen but the communication with parents. When I asked about it on their Facebook site for parents, I was given demeaning answers.

Yesterday they had a 10-12 grade get thier schedules. It was supposed to be 4:00-5:30. We got there at 4:30. They were already packing up. There was no direction. And when we got it, we wanted to walk my child school day but all areas were locked and it felt a an absolute mess. When I was in high school, our favorite time was find out rooms and coordinating with fellow school mates. I usually don’t do reviews but I am very confounded as a parent on this direction of this school.

This school has absolutely no communication with the parents. Their discipline methods are cruel and traumatizing. The was NO emotional support for my grandson. They allow bullying and in no way enforce anti bullying policies. I pulled him out after 2 years and placed him in a better school. The worst thing I could have done was placing him TLCA.

My child was a student at this school and we withdrew him due to constant issues with teachers unwilling to help him. Also he was threatened by other students and pressured to comment on gang affiliation. Staff was aware and did nothing to prevent this type of actions. Guilty parties continue to go unsanctioned with no reason to discontinue this behavior.

Positives:
*Most of the teachers love teaching and
you can tell.
* One child had a bullying incident and
it was stopped immediately after
being reported.
* I can see that my kids are learning
steadily. (And what they are learning)

Negatives:
* They hold back advanced
learners instead of moving them up
to more challenging work.
* According to my kids, most of the
time lunch food isn't very good.

Overall, two of three love this school. The third has mixed feelings about it. (The advanced kid that gets bored easily)

I'd like to start off with some positives. There are a handful of truly amazing staff here that have genuinely helped me through the roughest time of my life. The advanced college class taking is also something I found was nice. Starting off with my ratings and the negatives, I gave homework a poor rating due to my experiences with teachers not teaching and assigning homework that has untaught questions and/or just confusing directions. While there are positive teachers, the negative ones severely stick out and are usually unwilling to accommodate students who learn in different ways. While a leadership based school, it is the most deficit character. The upper admin have been heard to be terrible, many rumors often circulating about the teachers having to work overtime or having to much work in general. They also are connected to a church, and it's very adamant that they direct a lot of their focus to improving the church than the school sometimes. Finances are haywire, many teachers having to buy supplies themselves and overall a terrible chain of command. There is also a heavy bias toward children of staff. For character development, many of the key students who need help in developing character are pushed aside or neglected by others. This also ties into how students with different learning styles are also pushed aside. Lastly bullying, by what I've seen and experienced, many bullies at this school are either not dealt with or receive a slap on the wrist for their behavior. Many students who are often stated as hindering others learning are not reprimanded for such actions. Overall, the school can be good if you have a parent in staff, and are generally well endowed, but if you're not then I don't suggest you go here, try Central or Lakeview.

They send home weekly packets that make it easier on parents we can do it all in one day or just work on it a little at a time.

TLCA believes in positive rewards systems. They have a color code for the students very easily for parents to fallow to let them know how they did that day. Each kid is given a ticket for when they are good and get to spend tickets on Friday for a little surprise

Yes the school helps my son who had a learning disability and makes school fun for him. He is doing so well that he is on A/B honor roll.

Yes TLCA has a 0 tolerance for bullying and the few times my son or daughter has had issues with bullying they took care of it right away and disaplend the kids responsible for the bullying

I would rate it a 10 out of 10. I love TLCA and all that they stand for. The teachers are amazing and the whole staff really does care about their students. The principal are easy to talk to and their doors are always open to students and parents. I would highly recommend TLCA to anyone looking for a new school for their kids.

This is a charter school run by a church. No teaching certificate required says it all. Plus decisions seem to be made primarily with church in mind instead of children and school.

Many of the effective teachers leave, leaving behind the inept ones. Wonderful theater teacher was run off because the church took most of the stage equipment when the church moved to the elementary and certain extracurricular activities refused to work with her.

Certain teachers, math in particular, seem to think this is a university setting and assign too much work with little to no guidance since the teacher can't be bothered with explaining.

Discipline is arbitrary and biased. Name includes the word "Leadership" yet nothing is taught along that lines in the high school. Name more represents "The Lame Church Administration"

The school is very clickish. The students with parents that work at the school, get favored above the other students. Some teachers and administration are very unprofessional.

My son attended kindergarten and half of first grade at TLCA, and we loved it!

He has ADHD, sensory issues, and a language processing disorder, which means he isn't always the easiest kid to work with, but the staff went above and beyond to make him feel cared for and to help him succeed. I like that TLCA sets clear boundaries for behavior and they keep parents involved when problems do come up.

If you're the kind of parent who has high expectations and wants to be very involved with your child's education, TLCA will be a great fit.

We withdrew my son today because we're moving across the country. The entire staff came to say goodbye to my son. These folks really do care, and it shows.

My son has been at TLCA since kindergarten and at first I really liked it. This year however we got a new principal and everything changed. He is a dictator and no parent is allowed to voice their opinion or concerns. You can't go to the school board because they refuse to talk to you. The principal pretty much says it is his way or the highway and has even threatened to tackle down parents if he has to and has said/done other things that I cannot imagine would come from a PRINCIPAL. I prefer public school because at least if there are issues there is always someone to go to that will be the mediator there to guide you, as opposed to ignoring the issue at hand and hoping you go away silently. If you aren't giving money to the school or are feeding their pockets, they could care less about you. As I talk to more and more people, I realize how corrupt the owner of the school is and those who run it. They may think that everything is all great, but one day all the lies and corruption will catch up to them.

Yes But...This school does teach a lot about character and leadership, and classes are smaller in comparison with most public schools, BUT for my son (1st grade) who struggled with math they had no options for tutoring or summer school to improve his understanding and make sure he went on to 2nd grade, they're only suggestion was holding him back. Not good enough in my opinion. We will be transferring him to Goliad in August.

I have 5 grandchildren that attend TLCA who all love the school. As a grandmother, I love the opportunities they have to excel in academics and leadership. Excellent school. I wish it had been around when their parents were in school.

TLC Pre-K is an amazing preschool. My son had never had any kind of structure before attending and honestly I was a little scared of the phone calls was going to receive. I absolutely love his teachers, the director, and all the other staff. They have been so supportive and thanks to them he is nearly reading on a 1st grade level at the age of 5. He knows how to write his name and all his numbers as well as sound out most of the alphabet. I will recommend (and have) TLC Preschool to anyone interested because they have done wonders for my son.

PK rating, not Academy, but be warned that when TLC is mentioned in San Angelo, it is not in a good way. It is a loosely run day care and has a very high turn-over rate for the staff. My ratings are based on my 2 kids after almost a year, my daughter moved to another preschool and has grown and learned so much more in 2 months, then the entire time at TLC preschool. The staff is not educated to perform their tasks. Know that this is not a real preschool, it is a daycare. I have never experienced such a poorly run and staffed preschool, and I have been a teacher for 12 years! Please be careful when you trust these people, they use religion against you and they really only care about your money. Ask other parents, not just TLC preschool staff, about the truth behind this terrible place. Good luck!

TLC Academy is a great placer for students that are truly interested in their education. The staff has high expectations for behavior and academic growth. The smaller size classes and teacher to student ratio helps students to be more successful in their academic career. Friendly courteous teachers, and office personnel add to the overall positive atmosphere of the school. Parental Involvement is encouraged and welcomed.

Our 3 children have gone to TLCA since they became a charter school 4 years ago.(they were homeschooled up to that point) 1 is in elementary and 2 are in high school. All 3 are A or A/B Honor Roll, 2 participate in National Honor Society, are involved in UIL activities, band and sports. My daughter is a Jr. and is taking 2 dual credit courses plus physics and engineering and she loves it. We have watched all 3 of our children grow and blossom into even more amazing kids then before. Their school is very much a family atmosphere. The teachers have always been available. They have worked extra hard with our kids any time they have struggled on an assignment. My daughter was being harassed by a student last year and as soon as TLCA found out, they did an investigation and expelled the student. The staff at TLCA really believe in what they are doing. They believe in our kids. They are helping us raise the future leaders of our community and beyond. I would recommend TLCA to parents who are looking for a school that focuses more on academic success and leadership skills.

I have two children at TLCA elementary. They are learning so much about leadership and character in an academically outstanding environment. They are happy and confident. Also, TLCA reaches out to the community and teaches our students what a positive difference they can make!
