I recently visited this school for the first time and was blown away by the contrast between what I saw vs. what I initially expected or perceived the school night be like. I say this due to the nature of the charter being a non-profit program situated in minority, low income, or disadvantaged area of Austin.
Fostering good culture is the #1 indicator of a school looking to do two things.
First- always seeking improvement for themselves and their program. Which, leads into what I saw while on site- educators staying current on modern standards and practices. I saw two educators walking by reflecting on the days success and hurdles, using their time together to begin a dialogue of how to improve lesson plans and connect to those in need. Open communication in a constructive, healthy manner is priceless in this environment.
Second- enabling the success of all students by creating a conducive learning environment. I saw pride in the work done by faculty and staff, and in the campus itself. Their campus was clean, inviting, well maintained, and had clear sense of organization to it. Students were smiling as they walked by and seemed to feel safe/comfortable when navigating the grounds, inside or outside.
I hope this school overcomes the negative impact COVID-19 had on our educational system. Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't send my child to this school if I was paid to do so.
The only benefit here is that several of the teachers here truly love teaching and class sizes are small. Everything else is awful.
First, ten percent of every single dollar the school gets goes directly to the superindentant. There are roughly 200-300 students in the whole district and they're still making more than most other superintendents in the state. Salary information and the state reimbursement per student are both posted publically online so you're welcome to check yourself.
The buildings at this campus are falling apart and finding roaches in them is a daily occurance.
Unless the teacher is directly provided items, the classrooms are bare and it often takes MONTHS to receive textbooks or supplies. School computers are practically meaningless because the internet is constantly not working.
The school accepts many special needs students but then does not/cannot provide them the services and support they need and deserve. As a result, violent outbursts or lack of IEP items is relatively common.
Staff turnover is extremely high due to poor working conditions and the general lack of experience of those that they hire.
If you want your child to receive the support, guidance, and resources they need to learn and thrive, go elsewhere.
