It’s very different from traditional public school and is not for every student, but a great fit for some! Heavily tech-based and lots of group collaboration and public speaking (presenting findings to the class). We are happy with IEP implementation and special education services. It is a 4-day school week, which can be tricky for working parents. No bus service, so the pick-up/drop-off lines can be a drag. Communication from the school can be frustrating. It’s not the most organized by any means.

I think you should have your students see for themselves

Our daughters have been in LPS for 3 years (currently middle schoolers and high schoolers). I like the fact that the students have to do presentations (A LOT). The girls have learned a lot by PBL and group projects. They have learned to lead group projects which is a BIG PLUS! They sometimes complain about other group members not doing work, and they have to handle the conflicts and situation. I told them this is how the real world is out there. It is best for them to learn now than later.
I don't have comments about the curriculum because it's the same as all the other Texas schools. The kiddos are required to take STAAR tests.
Teachers always reply my email (questions or concerns). I can see the teachers care about the students and education.
It's a small school, so it feels like a family. I know most of the parents and kids just by volunteering in the school.
The school has handled the COVID situation as good as they could be. They offered virtual synchronized, virtual asynchronized and in-person learning. They had tried everything to help kids and family to get through the pandemic.
Love the school!

The premise is leadership. Really it is a school where the kids are left to peer evaluate and discipline. They work in groups and if one of them doesn’t do their part, their peers are supposed to reprimand them. The teachers do nothing when there is a weak-link. The kid slides by on the group grade.
Your child will be conducting the parent-child conference. Don’t expect to hear from your child’s teacher how they are doing, that is not the way it is done at this school.
Fast forward to Covid. My 8th grader was a straight A student, on the Dean’s list. In 9th they decided to go with a program known as Edginuity for the asynchronous kids. Basically, it was the kids left to teach themselves. When my daughter would ask a question the response from the teacher was they didn’t know what was being taught on Edginuity. She failed Algebra and was told she would need to attend summer school.
Paid $50 for three weeks, three hours a day of summer school to teach her Algebra. The kicker, no one is “teaching” Algebra. The kids are finishing the Edginuity they hadn’t completed. When they finish the course they are done with “summer school.” No teaching, just glorified babysitting.
This school has been one of the worst experiences, academically, for my children.
Pulled my 7th grade son out because of teaching issues this past year.
Take a hard look at this one before putting your kids there and don’t let the name over-impress you.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some great teachers there, but there are also some just collecting a paycheck.
By the way, communication is not their strong suit!

The school is good. The elementary is phenomenal. However, the leadership and administration in secondary is non-existent or apathetic at best. There is no discipline. Teachers do not even try to deal with troublemakers anymore. Bullying is rampant. The school uses mediocre monitoring software on their electronics so cyberbullying is a real problem. Since they use project based learning, children constantly need to collaborate using their devices. A more robust software solution is direly needed.

Serious lack of communication with parents and staff! And don’t even get me started on their athletic programs or cheerleading program. My daughter was injured during cheer because of the coach’s lack of knowledge and then the coach tried to turn it against my daughter and saying she lied about it. Not sure how she could have been lying when she left practice and came straight home and ankle was swollen and bruised? Coach also tried to get her to do a basket without a back spot- daughter refused as this is a huge no no! Coach claimed that never was happening yet other girls even said it was in the works. And as for volleyball, I’m a teacher at another school and their 6 am practices are hard to make when I have job commitments. She missed two practices due to my work, and she was told she couldn’t play because she missed even though we told coach ahead of time and I told them why. The school is supposed to be based on leadership and is far from it! They often leave the older kids to lead these sports and cheer teams and they are kids themselves! No direction or guidance, let alone good examples for coaches as the cheer coach was caught several times lying to parents. As for academics, while I do think there are some and I mean some string teachers, communication has been horrible! And good luck trying to learn their funky grade reporting system! It’s all over the place!

Strong philosophy on academic learning style that appeals to kids able to learn at their own pace. Small classrooms allow the students to be close.

Posted: February 17, 2019

I noticed that the children with learning differences watch a lot of movies and their teachers can’t seem to handle them when they become irritated or upset.

Posted: February 17, 2019

My child had a bullying situation, I contacted the guidance counselor, vice principal and principal for 3 days. I finally heard from the vice principal and she did handle the situation, but the guidance counselor was never heard from.

Horrible! They have a lot of work to do with communication between their teachers and staff with parents.

There are some really great teachers, but there are a lot of BAD teachers. Communication between teachers and parents is terrible.

If anxiety is a character then yes this school develops strong character.

Posted: February 17, 2019

They are supposed to teach leadership yet they don’t lead themselves. Teachers do not guide students through things they bark orders and think the students should just know without being taught the right way.
