I went to this school last year, and it was terrible. They do not care about students well being and overall mental health. There were fights constantly, and the consequences were simple such as "oh you get 3 day ISS for beating up a kid till they're battered!" When I was there I was being bullied by a girl, and no matter how many times I reached out the counselors nor staff paid attention to it. Even after signing multiple papers for no contact, they didn't give the girl no consequences and still had me in the same class as her, but she was nice enough to switch out of that class. Overall, this isn't a good middle school, and I wouldn't recommend sending your child here!!!

This school is unsafe, principals and security staff dont protect the student from bullying and physical violence towards other student. They dont have actual consequences towards violence in school. As a parent I felt very unsafe to take my child to school. Please find a better options for a middle school.

this school actually sucks. they put their money where their mouth is and act like they care about students, but the only thing they care about is money. also, when kids get bullied or made fun of they turn a blind eye to it. this school is more like a daycare than a school. the kids here are either rich or just above the poverty line. the rich kids always pick on others because they know that their parents basically control the school thru pta. overall horrible school that only cares about $.

I am a former teacher at McLean. I found this school to be a toxic nightmare for non-white and economically-disadvantaged students. Like Tanglewood and Paschal, the leadership at this school only cares about appeasing the affluent families (who happen to run the PTA). Unlike Tanglewood, affluent families are a minority in this school. Because the school depends on families who can afford to send their children elsewhere to keep enrollment high, the affluent few call all the shots. Decisions are not based on what is best for all students. Decisions are only made based on keeping wealthy parents happy enough to keep their students in McLean.
There are some really outstanding teachers here, but most of them are given all/mostly pre-AP and advanced sections. Lower-performing teachers are given on-level or remedial classes and no support from administration or colleagues. I consider myself a competent teacher (hope so!), but I still needed support from administration and colleagues, and it was impossible for me to get help. This leads bad teachers to become worse teachers, and theyre the ones teaching underserved students. You only need to look at the achievement gap among disadvantaged and non-white students to see the effects of this school on underserved populations.
The focus on fundraising at this school is sick. Fundraising events segregated affluent and disadvantaged kids. At one event, kids who did not purchase tickets could only walk around the track in the middle of the day during May in Texas with no shade. Students who purchased tickets were able to join group sport tournaments and other fun activities. The money raised at these events seems to go on to further serve the affluent kids and leave the rest behind. Administration constantly talked about the importance of maintaining enrollment and made it clear that many of us would lose our jobs if families chose to move their children to other schools. I was bullied by parents and pressured by admin into changing grades for affluent students who participated in sports. There is not one cell in my body that would want to work at this school again or send my own kids there.

Do not send your child to this school, get a second job and send them elsewhere. The parent portal is not updated and hard to tell if an assessment was turned in or just not graded. His art teacher literally spends the class period with his back to the class. The students are not comfortable raising their hands to has questions or get clarification. Also when my son was performing low in math it was another teacher that called me to let me know about a course that was now open in the portal. Why couldnt his own math teacher give him instructions especially since half the class is doing online? Obviously a very disappointing experience.

My daughter's 7th-grade math teacher does not quite teach anything. Sometimes, I asked her some very basic math questions, she still used what she learned from 6th grade. She said she literally learning nothing in 7th grade's math as the teaching was just chatting with other teachers and does not spend time to teach anything to the class. Terrible!
I actually also asked other parents and some feedback to the math teacher.
