I have to say what a Blessing my sons teachers have been to my sons growth and happiness. For years, weve struggled to find a school that meets his needs with not only teachers that genuinely care for their students but have the support to back it up at campus level.
From Principal Salinas, to Vice Principal Velasquez, to teachers like Ms. Karam, Ms. Sawyer-Smith and Ms. Malik, weve experienced a tremendous commitment to serve our student where he is. I cant tell you how refreshing it is. Dont get me wrong. The support weve experienced couldnt have been achieved without parent involvement, support and communication. It takes time to get to know a student and their needs. Teachers are not mind readers and getting to know the needs of a single child while observing 18 to 22 other children could take time. But with proactive parent involvement and receptive teachers such as these, the success of your student is limitless.
And for all of you homeschool families considering converting back to the in person learning platform, Hybrid Prep is absolutely the best option for a few reasons. First, a significant number of the students attending this DISD transformation school were either previously homeschooled students or virtual learners, so fitting in may come easy to your student if they are homeschooled. In light of Covid, my students spent one year as virtual learners and the following three as homeschooled students, while maintaining 4.0 GPAs.
If I were to account for any concerns, it would be for the need for additional social and emotional support training for the Dyslexia teacher. To her favor, she has been a Dyslexia teacher for many years. However, often educators who have been practicing at length tend to forget that there is always room to learn more and the psychological findings are ever changing and growing. Which means we, parents, teachers and administrators must grow with the new understandings of how to meet students, both special education and general education, exactly where they are. Its important to interpret how they process the social and emotional delivery of information and make necessary changes to support the student.
I cant tell what a relief it is to see my son maintaining grade levels, loving his teachers, his peers and looking forward to attending school, whether it be his virtual or in person days. If you would like a blended option of virtual and in person, there is no better option than Hybrid Prep for your student.
