My son attended Prestonwood Montessori from K-2, with more and more issues arising each year from constant change of administration and staff and lack of communication to blatant disregard of parental rights. PLEASE, PLEASE do not send your children here! This school switches principals, assistant principals, nurses and teachers mid semester with little to no notice to parents. There is a HUGE communication issue where they do not answer the phone when they have your child and also when they switch administration they do not communicate information to the new staff. Prestonwood is a Montessori in which a student is supposed to have the same instructor for a segment of their learning experience(typically 2-3 years, depending on when your student begins the program). My son has had 3 different teachers within one learning segment.. one of which, quit after one semester of being at Prestonwood. In my son’s second year he was rushed to the local emergency room from class of an apparent asthma attack in which the assistant principal at the time rode with him in the ambulance. This information was not documented and the school nurse, assistant principal and principal have since been released from the school. There is something odd happening at Prestonwood Montessori. This is not a safe place to send your children if you want peace of mind that they’re being educated and cared for adequately.

I enrolled my child at Prestonwood Montessori at E.D. Walker because I believed in the promise of the school — a Montessori education on a diverse Title I campus where students from different backgrounds could thrive together.

I didn’t just enroll my child; I became deeply involved in the school community and volunteered many hours supporting school programs.

Because of that involvement, I had the opportunity to see both the strengths of the campus and the challenges families should be aware of.

There are committed teachers here and aspects of the Montessori model that can be very positive for students. However, families considering this school should take time to review the publicly available academic data.

Looking across several years of the campus’s STAAR results through the Texas Education Agency Research Portal provides important context that may not always be reflected in marketing materials or word-of-mouth.

Multiple years of state assessment results show persistent gaps between student groups, particularly for Black and economically disadvantaged students. In some years, those gaps have grown rather than narrowed.

It is also important to compare the campus’s outcomes with other schools across Dallas ISD. Even among higher-performing student groups, overall performance levels are often lower than those seen at many other campuses in the district. That broader context matters when families are deciding where their child will receive the strongest academic preparation.

As a Title I campus, the school receives federal funding intended to support students from low-income families. In practice, families with the time, knowledge, and resources to advocate within the system often have greater access to opportunities and influence within the school community. Transparent outcomes are especially important for a school-choice campus operating within a Title I program.

Families researching this school should review several years of publicly available STAAR data through the Texas Education Agency Research Portal before enrolling.

For some families, this school may still be a good fit. But it is worth comparing it with your neighborhood school or other open-enrollment campuses in the district before making a decision.

A school’s reputation is often shaped by marketing and word-of-mouth, but the long-term academic outcomes for students are what ultimately matter most.
