At the time of writing this review I am an 8th grade student enrolled in various classes, such as Principles of Engineering, Varsity (Honors) Band, and Geometry. The content discussed in class is very thorough and is from quality education. However, lessons aren't always engaging, and many teachers just don't know how or don't attempt to control the classroom. Theres always so many people in detention. They also started a "traffic-reducing" system that guess what, created more traffic and accidents. Also, the bathrooms and just about many places are filthy. The school also expects students to supply pencils, tissues, etc... when they should be the ones buying it. Most teachers are good and friendly, but the administration overall has many holes in it. Stepping aside from bashing the school, we recently became an A school, a really impressive feat when looked at from normal education standards in the USA. The elective programs are pretty good, except for football (lose almost every time with 0 points). We have Principles of Engineering, Design, Spanish, French, Professional Communications, and many more extracurricular but valuable classes. Overall, I would recommend this school for its curriculum, prestige, and standards. However, still keep in mind the unsanitary infrastructure, risky social structure, and administration. Everyone is social, but there's always NSFW topics / threats, curses / cusses, dirty talk, and just unspeakable things that even adults shouldn't say, if you talk the way the bad stuff in school is said in, say, church, you would probably be deeply condemned. Just beware. I recommend Austin Academy for Excellence; it is a great school overall. Go eagles!

Overall, this school provides great opportunities for student success. However, the school community has areas that need improvement. While many teachers and staff members are welcoming and respectful, some do not treat students with the same level of respect. Additionally, certain staff members unfairly target students based on their "reputation," which creates a negative environment.
Another major concern is how staff handle students' phones. I strongly disagree with the way they pressure students into unlocking their devices for inspection. This practice feels like an invasion of privacy, and if i was a parent, I would not want my child's personal information accessed without consent. A more appropriate approach would be for staff to secure the phone while awaiting permission from a parent or guardian. From personal experience, I know that staff members frequently go through students' phones, which is deeply concerning.

I love this school! Currently I am a 7th grader and I am in the athletics program and I love it. We had to try out and all of the girls are amazing. I have made so many friends at this school and I absolutely love it. The teachers are super nice and understanding and most of the teachers that I have had do not do homework. The only homework we get is the work we do not finish in class. These other reviews from students are saying that they have so much work. I don't disagree but I also dont agree. Yes, we get a lot of work but if you use the class time that we get wisely then you will get most of the work done. In 7th grade we have a WIN class which is just a catch up class for doing your homework or unfinished work from other classes. So like I said, I absolutely love this school and the coaches, teachers, students and other staff are great.

eh, its an okay school. I don't mind it but I really think that maybe it needs more help for the gifted kids, giving them grace when they fail to turn something in because of the insane workload. I'm a gifted kid and I am very stressed when it comes to turning stuff in.

overall it's a pretty good school, but the homework is flooding my personal life and when I get home I can't get any other things done because of how much homework I have to do and projects due. Some teachers tend to target students and I can tell. There is always something going on at school and almost all of the time it's not good. The coaches are the best though, they really make you better at any sport. Kids that go here get low grades and don't care about it. My math teacher is new and I am not learning anything we took a quiz in class and everyone failed that I know of and she still put it in the grade book, of course, I was mad because my dad would get on to me big time. also, people need to learn how to keep classrooms clean.

6th grade has been a great transitional year with every opportunity to finish work in class and only occasionally needing to bring work home.

We are having an excellent experience. Our daughter gets to take private cello at school, next semester will have zero hour piano while our next daughter has zero hour art. She gets to go to enriched honors classes. Teachers and admin respect the students and students respect the teachers. So many of the teachers have been there for years, which speaks well of the culture and the admin. Because they want to stay Austins teaching staff becomes more and more experienced each year, to the benefit of its students.

I'm a 7th grade student going into 8th grade at Austin Academy and going to this school has really helped me out. While the neighborhood and some of the students aren't great, if you live around the Garland-Rowlett-Sachse area and you're doing great at your normal school, you should definitely come here. We have a GT program, which has Enriched Honors classes, where you take classes with other students at your level. The only complaints I would have about this is that the GT standards have fallen these past years and the Honors and Regular classes have many bad students that don't respect anyone, even the teachers. Next, there's many extracurricular activities, such as Number Sense, a National winning Pentathlon team, a State winning Youth and Government team, and so much more! There are also many electives, more than all the other middle schools in GISD. I believe the teachers also teach effectively. Some other people say they give too much homework, but that will prepare you for high school and beyond, where there will be much more homework. The teachers here care about your studies and will assist you. We also have great orchestra, band, theater, choir, piano, and art programs. For older grades, there is robotics, aide, and many more electives! We also have many athletics programs. Additionally, there aren't many bullying or fights that occur here, which is a huge plus. For me, it is very easy to keep an all A's streak and keep a perfect GPA by studying, doing homework, and participating in class. So overall, this is a great school in GISD if you can keep up with your work, manage your time, and make friends!
