I currently go here (Im moving to 8th grade) and this school isnt too bad. Thankfully, most of my teachers werent the bad ones, but even the good ones would yell at us because some kids would get too loud. Back in 6th grade most of the boys would make inappropriate noises and jokes, but in 7th it wasnt as bad, although there was an occasional dirty joke.
Theres a lot of fights and drama here. One time, two boys got in a fight and one of them ended up scratching the other boy with his keys, and he came back with a broken wrist (probably from the fight), and a pretty bad scar on his face. But I guess as long as you dont get on someones bad side the bullying isnt as bad. I have a sibling who went here some time ago and they had terrible experience, especially with bullying, but for me it hasnt been as bad.
The teachers usually dont really give any homework, and the only homework Ive ever gotten was just unfinished schoolwork. Also, by 8th period the kids start acting crazy. It gets a lot more loud than usual, and sometimes people run in the halls which leads to them bumping into some of the kids in the halls. And sometimes people even start screaming.
Overall, the education is okay, and most of the teachers are kind (although some are kinda mean/rude). I cant really speak on the discipline but I guess its somewhat fair. The safety and security isnt the worst, and the family engagement is kinda good. I dont know much about the special education though, other than the class they have for dyslexic people that i only know about because of my best friend who has dyslexia.

Sam Houston was a great experience for my daughter. I had one child go through Austin and one through Brandenburg. Sam Houston was the best. It is a small school and the children are allowed many opportunities. All school activities are kept inexpensive and student oriented as opposed to the Academies renting out the Granville Arts Center for graduation which was a waste. We are sad out time her has ended but I know my daughter is prepared for high school!
