In the last 8 years I have had 3 children attend this school. Each child with different interests, skills and social standings. I say that so you understand that I have experienced the different facets and options available at GMS. It was an eye-opening experience to go from an amazing journey and School like Cannon Elementary to then have them matriculate into GMS, a tragic occurrence. This school and its rhetoric is for show, hollow words that check a box but hold no real meaning. Leadership holds compliance over true learning/education, only caring about the score. In the last 8 years this school has truly fallen into a state of despair. I have seen videos my students took of Teachers screaming at their students and throwing things in class. I have witnessed the negative effects of their staff's tactics warp and confuse the minds of impressionable students. Favoritism is real, and many students and parents are aware. I have been on both sides of the favoritism scale, and it is eye opening the gap created and maintained by staff to protect their "chosen". I have spoken with several other parents who feel the same way, but when expressing concerns to their various assistant principals, it is met with run arounds, gas lighting and more hollow rhetoric. In the end they give up and tell their students to hold on till Highschool. Middle school is hard enough without the people paid to care for you treating you like a burden or afterthought. One of my students went form the top of his class, heavily awarded and look upon to feeling so hopeless and worthless that he gave up all because of his interactions with teachers and counselors. Another of my students shut herself away, closed off and removed herself because when reporting bullying or unwanted harassment, she was vilified or led to believe she may have been the one giving mixed messages or encouraging the offenders. One of my students was attacked in the gym surrounded by other students and supposedly monitored by teachers. No one came to his aid; his wounds were not even addressed till I arrived and requested it. Several eyewitnesses came forward to confirm it was an unprovoked attack but were told "it takes two to tango". Self-defense should not be punishable. I will not have my two youngest attend this school. I will be looking for any alternative as I value them and their current love of learning to let GMS steal it from them. I hope GMS can grow and fix these issues; our students deserve more.

Teachers at this school humiliate students. They call them losers, tell them to jump from the third floor to test gravity, etc. Coach Hill, the football coach in 2017 humiliated a student in front of the entire class telling him he was never going to be anything but a fast food worker. Terrible culture and horrible role models.

This school is terrible I almost committed suicide because of this place and they barely help with that, they just recommend the most stupidest places every time. And they knew I had problems yet waited a whole entire year to give me accommodations. Thank God I unenrolled.

We have a system that teaches us all of the major qualities that you need to have not just at school but everywhere. I feel like we just need to enforce it better.

The principal of GMS is such a nice lady and is trying to make GMS a better place for not just students but for everyone. The two assistant principals help her to reach that goal too.

We have special classes and programs for people with learning differences and it does make a difference.

Bullying is really hard to control but it is declining because of the steps the GMS counselors have taken. If we just try a little more it would become closer to a bully-free school then it already is.

I am a student who currently goes to this school. The teachers and the principal are really nice. They always try to make GMS a better place. The teachers give each student what they need to succeed in the future. I love this school and I am proud to be at this school. I was kind of worried that it was a bad school. They say don't judge a book by its cover. It is a great school to send your kids to.

The teachers hold you accountable to do your work and give tons help if you need it. If you are in Stem sometimes things can get a little overwhelming but the teachers help you.

The teachers I have had have been very effective in the teaching process. They always try to make every lesson interesting for everyone in the classroom.

Homework is not given just to take up time. Students have homework if they have unfinished products or if there is unfinished classwork. Every student is given a planning period where they can work on homework or assignments with a teacher present to help if needed.

I have 2 middle schoolers and I see teachers show up for games and events, not because they are required to but because they care about their students. The students know they care so they give these teachers 100%. This mutual respect is creating effective classrooms

See the message above regarding the house system and there are other student-led groups like HOPE squad that perpetuate compassion, respect, empathy, and awareness.

Dr. Koehler has been our campus principal for 2 years and implemented several amazing programs to strengthen our school community and increase student ownership. One program is the house system that every staff member and students is a part of. Similar to Harry Potter houses are given points when they are caught doing amazing things and there is a huge house party every 9 weeks. The halls and campus are cleaner and good student behavior has increased.

There are multiple programs available on campus

This school was very good for my academically talented children. They emphasize the whole childs experience - the district provides a tremendous backbone and framework for the kids as well. I'm an active parent in my kids education and am very glad they attended GMS. Any lower rating may have come from the leadership change three a few years ago - the new principal has made AMAZING changes that have benefitted the children. And while she and I did not always see eye to eye, she heard me out and respects the parents opinions. I put full trust in her to provide a great experience for my kids. Amazing band, theatre, chorale, GT, FPS, STEM, math club, robotics, theatre programs and more.

Each year my kids had numerous teachers who guided and encouraged them. The band program is fantastic aliv with the gifted and talented program.

Grapevine Middle School has been an unexpectedly FABULOUS experience for our son! A few years ago, we had heard some concerns with GMS from other parents, so we were nervous sending our son to middle school - actually any middle school. Mrs. Young and the teachers at GMS have been OUTSTANDING!!! This group of teachers are true professionals that engage the hearts and minds of our kids. We are now in our 2nd year at GMS and are so happy with the progress. Keep up the great work Mrs. Young!!!! We love being at GMS!

I prefer Private school. Because there is more encouragement in private school. GMS is an o.k. School. But
