Our family has had the privilege of being a part of the HVE family for the last 8 years. The educators and administrators are truly the best. My children are receiving not only a top notch education, but the kind of character and grit it takes to be successful in all aspects of life.

Academics are important and HVE is top notch...Im amazed at how much my child has learned and grown...but heres the thing about HVE: teachers and admin are actually invested in the kids as people. My child is loved, cared for, understood and appreciated for who she is. The school is small making community easier to achieve and I was shocked our first year there when staff greeted my youngest (who doesnt attend the school yet) by name. Ive been SO impressed with how the (few) behavioral and (isolated) bullying issues are handled. We have friends who pay a ton of money to get these perks in private school and yet here it is right here for free.

We love HVE!! We have only had positive experiences here and love how small the school size is.

When homework is assigned it is relevant to what the students are learning and helps the parents know what they are learning.

The principal is very involved and knows every kids name. This is amazing to me. Shes a good example of what a principal should be.
Posted: January 25, 2019
The teachers work with the kiddos one on one if they spot an issue and will communicate that with the parents.
Posted: January 25, 2019
They start from kindergarten teaching about what bullying is and what you should do if this happens. The kids had special sessions as a class with the councilor about certain subjects and this is one of them.
Posted: January 25, 2019
Being that this school is a smaller school enrollment wise all the teachers are able to work with the kiddos on an as needed basis. The teachers are great at communicating with parents if issues arise also.
Posted: January 25, 2019
They teach this starting in kindergarten. They also give awards for kiddos that display all of these.

We have been there since kindergarten and my daughter is in 4th grade now. Everyone knows everyone and its like family. I also attended this school back in the 80s when it was new. So I was thankful that LISD is an open district so that I could have my daughter go there also. The staff is great and I hope it continues to be an awesome school when she has to go onto middle school. I will miss this small family atmosphere. I picked the school not only because I went there but I also checked scores on certain things on multiple sites and HVE was one of the higher of the schools. And I believe this is because of the smaller enrollment.

They have eased the kids into homework as they progress through the higher grades. I believe this is good because it wont be a shock when they go into middle school and get homework.

One of my children is receiving special education services and I could not be happier with it. I would not want to be anywhere else.

I have had three children who have gone through or are currently in this school. I have loved every single one of their teachers. Not a bad one in the bunch.

We tried for two years to work with faculty to assure our child got equal attention. We were willing to put in the time and do our share but the faculty doesn't teach children with differences. They punish any child who doesn't conform to their norms rather than help the child.

Huge bullying problem with bullying at this school.!
Posted: March 8, 2018
Bullying on the playground is the worst I've experienced in years. When first graders ask teachers for help with verbal and physical attacks in common areas they are told to handle it themselves. That's very old thinking. All new research shows children can't handle bullying themselves after they've asked the bully to stop the next step is supposed to be go to a trusted adult for help and intervention. There are no trusted adults helping victims of bullying at this school and it is pervasive. The older bullies run the common areas unchecked.

The principal lets the teachers do whatever they want. There is absolutely no accountability for poor teaching.

Teachers teach to pass the test. If your child is gifted they're going to be ignored at best and yelled at when they get bored more often than not. When we tried to address this lack of education for our child the teacher said she was offended we asked for a meeting and than she had 16 other students to think about so why were we wasting our time. The administration backed her decision not to educate our child.

We removed our child from this school and if we are lucky we can repair the DAMAGE this school did . We're working hard to try to repair that damage but we may never be able to repair it completely.

All the employees of the school are dedicated professionals with a passion for teaching and mentoring students. I have never heard a complaint from any parent whose child attends the school. The children are excited about learning in such a positive and nurturing environment. Since the school is small, you and your child get to know everyone, and it makes it feel like home.

I have loved every moment of my child's experience at Highland Village Elementary. It is truly his home away from home. He is excited to go to school every day! The love, compassion and understanding for his needs could not be duplicated on any other campus.

Teacher create classrooms where kids feel safe. Kids know there are many trusted adults all around the school.

Compassion is the name of the game at HVE!
Posted: January 25, 2018
Mrs. Mitchell has implemented a high expectation for GRIT at HVE. I have seen my son go from an easily frustrated kid to one who can see a problem and work through it with patience and confidence.
Posted: January 25, 2018
Differentiation and Tolerance is modeled by the teachers and expected from the students. The children learn starting in Kindergarten that what is fair may not look the same for all students.
Posted: January 25, 2018
The staff, from the principals to the custodians, make sure that all students feel safe and secure at HVE. Students know that they can go to ANY staff member for help if they are feeling bullied. The teachers work with the students, parents, counselor and principals to stop any bullying in its tracks immediately.

The teachers are extremely effective, loving, nurturing, considerate, helpful, kind, I could go on for days about how wonderful they are. They are understanding and provide individual attention if needed. His method is highly effective in the overall elementary school setting.

The amount of homework brought home is never too much to handle and it gives the students a time to focus on individual problems.

The teachers and staff go above and beyond the norm for their students and families. My husband passed away and everybody at the school came together for us and helped as much as they possibly could to make our lives a little easier, out of the goodness of their hearts, not because it was expected or even asked for. The character of every single staff member is remarkable and greatly appreciated. We love this school and the teachers!

We moved to this area specifically for this school and could not have made a better decision about Highland Village Elem. The class sizes are small and manageable and the teachers and staff go above and beyond for their students and families. It's been a great school experience for our family.

I can't tell you how lucky we are to have gotten into this district and into Highland Village Elementary. The teachers and Principal are very caring and go above and beyond day, night and weekend. My son is treated as an individual and the way he learns. This school provides tools as to how the child learns - no one is put into a box. I love their progressive stance to learning which keeps up with the times of technology in this day and age.

Excellent staff and teachers, coupled with low student/teacher ratio, make for a top-notch learning environment for students.
