Disappointing Program Direction and Coaching Performance

The wrestling program has been frustrating to watch due to what appears to be a lack of leadership, limited coaching knowledge, and a consistently poor competitive record. There seems to be little development of athletes, questionable match strategies, and minimal progress from season to season.

A successful program requires a coach who can motivate athletes, teach sound fundamentals, and build a winning culture. Unfortunately, those elements have been missing, and the team continues to struggle as a result.

At some point, changes need to be considered. The wrestlers deserve stronger leadership, better instruction, and a coach who can move the program

This is one of the absolute WORST schools I've ever had to take my daughter to. Too many students, not enough staff. They can't break up the violent fights that happen on a daily basis. They have coaches "teaching" instead of teachers because they don't have enough teachers. They don't uphold IEPs and the office staff is rude! My daughter literally failed because of the lack of support this school has. I really don't know why people keep coming here. This school sucks. No organization, rude staff, not enough teachers, I'm honestly shocked they don't have a one star review. One of the ABSOLUTE WORST SCHOOLS IN TEXAS!

Learning:
I would say a majority of students at this school are excited about what they are learning. It all depends on the type of class though as the easier classes have low amounts of work which is why these classes usually contain the students not as interested in the subject while the AP and OnRamps classes have a heavy workload meaning the students are often determined to get a good grade in the class.

Special Education:
I have accommodations and the school was extremely helpful in providing it and all my teachers have given me the accommodations.

Teaching:
Most of the teachers at this school are nice. They are very helpful whenever you need help but some teachers can get frustrated if you ask them if you can review a test or something similar. I would like to mention that many of advanced teachers will often give lots of homework, especially history where you can usually expect 2-3 hours of homework a night.

Safety:
The school does not care about safety and covers up incidents that occur. There are often fights at the school where people will end up severely injured. When a fight happens, teachers do not break up the actual fight but rather deter witnesses that can gather evidence of the fight which could be shown to parents. For example, there was a major fight on 8/29/23 that resulted in several students and adults getting injured. The principal responded by making an announcement about aggression while referring to our actions as "barbaric" but made a big deal about any students recording the fight as she threatened anyone who recorded the fight to delete the recording and anyone who posted it to social media to take it down immediately. The administration has made it clear that they do not actually care about the incidents that happen on campus but rather if they get leaked to the outside world.

Social-emotional support:
The counselors are very helpful and are there whenever you need them. I will say though that if you have a mental-health problem at this school, you need to speak up since nobody actively looks for people who seem depressed.

Family Engagement:
The school will often try to cover up incidents on campus. The principal made sure to address everyone about the fight on campus but only to make sure that students did not post it to social media for parents to see. There is little transparency in the school for parents which helps the administration as they don't need to respond to emails from concerned parents or the school board.

I would really like to thank the front office for their incompetence in not preparing my granddaughters VOE (verification of enrollment) for her drivers license test that takes 4 months in advance to make an appointment for. Not only did they not prepare the document ,they did not bother to inform us that it is only good for 30 days. So now we have to wait another 4 months to get another appointment. and for not even allowing us in the school to try to remedy this situation. Thanks Northwest!

This school is your basic all-American school. The school is slowly getting better progress is constantly being made. A problem on campus is the ignorance of teachers and students. Many students complain about things that can be solved and some teachers don't have empathy for their students nor can they understand the students' perspectives. A recently increasing issue is student behavior and the way we combat it. Many times the entire student population has to face punishment for a slight population on campus. However, most teachers and students are generally understanding, welcoming, and normal. I'd say most people have a very basic high school experience here. Homework is purely based on the teacher, I hardly had homework until 10th grade. Student leaders on campus or mostly nice, excepting, and in favor of an equitable campus. Being a student with a learning disability I feel generally taken care of only occasionally needing to remind teachers of 504 accommodations. Bullying, I haven't witnessed any but I hear about it rarely.

I just started my freshmen year and already have many complaints. This school does absolutely nothing about bullying even more so if the bully is a athlete. There is no order at this school at all the hallways are a mess and the staff makes no attempt to help clear them up. My first pep-rally at this school ended with a kid getting arrested. I found that there are a couple staff members who have no respect for students with learning disabilities and will completely disregard 504s. This school has taken no covid pro cautious at all with even the principle not wearing a mask. That being said there are still some teachers and staff that do care for your well-being and make this school bearable. And both the STEM and Creative Media Production academy are well funded and run by very capable staff.

As someone with dyslexia this school has actually helped with me to overcome this obstacle. As well as students helping soar kids during lunch.

Like a four out of five because its not a bad school but it doesnt know how to teach kids more of character rather just sweeping it under the rug till gets worse. But for the students them selves they show their true nature within a week and you just got to find the people who do good in the school.

The on-level classes treat their teachers horribly. Depends on which pre-ap class you're in to find the really disrespectful students. If you're on-level, you won't succeed.

The on-level students are bad enough. If a student can't write properly, they are forced to write and fail the written portion of the exam because no one can read it. Students with disabilities are made fun of.

Northwest has definitely made a difference in the past year, a remarkable one. I am nothing but proud to call myself a Texan. So glad Mr. Childress was able to take the position as the principal of our school. We have become a true family, and along with that we have hard working and dedicated teachers. Our scores are amazing and everyone strives to do the best they can. ALL IN FOR LIFE!
