I wanted to leave a google review but those are turned off. I really wanted to love this school, but sadly that didnt happen,
this school and the whole AISD system is a joke, my daughter was sexual assault at this school, it took them the whole school year with a Tile 9 to try to get the student removed, finally June 2025 they let me know that yes they find the child responsible for sexual assault but they would only send her to ALC for 20days and keep a stay away order in place, mind you the stay away order doesnt do anything, the child was still coming into contact with my child, I would have to email every week, just to keep records for myself. and for the record this child didnt just sexual assault my child there were alot of other girls, I do wonder if a boy had done this if they would of taken this more serious, because the girl that was doing this was always in trouble, then to top it off someone broke into her locker stealing a pair of 120.00 shoes , the girl was so bold she even wore them to school and these shoes were not easy to come by my daughter was the only child in school to have these shoes when they came out, she was so proud of that. stay away if you can, I was so schocked how things went for our first year there espically given the location and neighorhood it was in.

My son was bullied so badly that we left the school. The counselor and assistant principal were supportive, but nothing was ever done. Never heard one word from the principal, even though things got pretty serious. It broke my heart to see him in such emotional pain and the damage it has done. I feel for every child who is bullied because it is something they have to deal with long after the actually bullying has stopped.

People always say, "It's gotten so much better". I don't really know what that means, because this is my son's first year at OHMS. I don't know where it came from, but our son has had (and me and my husband) a great experience. Teachers, Administration and staff are awesome. Open door to anyone who wants to talk about struggles from academics to social and everywhere in between.

We've had a really great experience at O.Henry. -- The administrative leadership, teachers and staff are exceptional. They are continually implementing needed programs, addressing challenges head-on and ensuring equity for all. My children have been challenged in their courses taking all AP or advanced offerings as well as taking a variety of electives that has given them an opportunity to learn outside the box. In addition, there are many organizations and clubs available to join to give a greater learning experience. Athletics, fine arts, orchestra/band, dance & photojournalism are only some of the things my kids have enjoyed. There are also ample leadership opportunities from student council, the ambassadors program, leadership-in-training options and more. The middle school years can be challenging for students and parents, so I have been especially grateful for the guidance & community at O.Henry.

When a report of bullying is given, the school takes action to investigate the allegation and ensure that the students are safe.

OHMS is a very inclusive Middle School. They have gone above and beyond to make sure that my daughter feels welcomed and is involved in extra-curricular activities, such as allowing for "C-Teams" so that all students have an opportunity to play a sport, even if they didn't make the A or B Team.
The academic component has also challenged my daughter, but not over taxed her. She has learned all grade level curriculum and has been held accountable without being overly stressed. I would recommend OHMS to anyone considering a public middle school in Austin.

O.Henry encourages students to engage in more extra-curricular activities and develop their social-emotional side rather than load them down with homework. Typically there is nightly homework in Math and some projects assigned but all are manageable .

With the assistance from AISD SEL Department, OHMS works hard to teach students about how to be productive members of their community. They participate in ACES class where they learn these important skills. OHMS teaches the whole child with respect and integrity.

The Administrative Team at OHMS is very effective. They have high expectations for not only their students, but their teaching staff. They encourage the teaching staff to be involved in leading extra-curricular activities to provide students an opportunity to engage in more than just class...Creative scheduling and class offerings are also improving which then allows students to take high school level classes and receive high school credits.

My daughter has a 504 Plan with accommodations for Dyslexia and ADHD. OHMS takes the time to ensure that her needs are met within each class.

Both my sons attended O Henry Middle School and had a wonderful experience, especially with the band program, HEB Camp and NJHS.

I agree with the parent below: This school has a bullying problem. It contributed to our decision to move our child. We spoke to one of the vice principals and were treated with hostility. It's a shame because the teachers at the school are indeed excellent. They go above and beyond for students who want to learn.

Both my children are at O Henry Middle School. OHMS has an excellent principal, Pete Price, and wonderful teachers. We have a fantastic librarian who is very creative and gets the students excited about exploring different kinds of books. We love the band program and the enrichment classes are really fun and educational.

O'Henry Middle School has wonderful teachers, but this school has a SEVERE bullying problem that the principal just isn't willing to recognize. Even with the exceptional teaching staff, I could not recommend this school to anyone.

As a former student of O'henry Middle School, all I can say is if you are looking for higher education: I would not recommend this school. There are many very nice teachers but overall they lack connection with the students. Some students are not pushed to be they can be lowering the education level of the other kids. The Athletics Program was less than satisfactory and some of the Staff members.... Did not meet my expectations. Overall I got an education but my experience at O'henry was one that I can brag about.

This is the best school I've ever taught at (I taught here for 6 years). The principal is an incredible leader and the staff truly cares about the students. After seeing how other schools are run, I now realize what an amazing school this is, both for students and teachers. I would not hesitate to send my own children here.
