The principal, Jennifer Balch, is not a very kind person.

Principal Balch made my experience at this school very negative. She is horrible to work with.

There are some teachers who assign excessive homework but overall the teachers assign a reasonable amount of homework that is not too burdensome.

Teachers at this school are passionate, engaged and frequently bilingual.

This is where this school absolutely excels. The leadership here is very forward thinking on policies around more recess, less homework and being committed to helping students of varying abilities learn in a way that best suits them. Our son with ADHD had a much worse experience at a school rated far higher than this one, where he would be punished with no recess for his schoolwork issues despite there being a 504 plan in place, and the leadership was indifferent or down right rude when I told them that taking recess away from any kid, much less one with ADHD was the worst thing they could do. At this school, not only did the leadership agree with all of my requests for his accommodations for 504, they already had made those accommodations available to many other kids.

I mention this above, but the leadership and teachers at this school are very progressive on policies supporting a child with ADHD and are completely committed to helping students with varying learning needs succeed.

Have had two incidents of bullying, both were swiftly and properly addressed.

This school is phenomenal, I cannot say this enough times. They do what they can with their curriculum (which is controlled by the school board, so if you ever read a review where a parent complains about what a child learns at the school, that's not on any one school/teacher's shoulders), and are compassionate educators committed to not only the educational experience of their students but also the emotional and personal growth of their students. They are always looking for ways to support the students, and even adopted a two recess policy within the first year our kids were there.

The teachers care about their students and go above and beyond the minimum to make learning fun and interesting.

The students seem well behaved and polite. I have not heard of any problems

Very caring principals and staff who are helpful and always positive.

All students are well cared for and challenged.

Any issue we have had a question about has been satisfactorily answered and my child has said her classmates get a long well mostly.

Overall our experiences have been really positive. There is a warm happy atmosphere in the school. Students, staff and the parents I see all have smiles and positive attitudes concerning the school. My child loves going to Dover and she is getting a challenging education.

Homework is always relevant and appropriate. The homework is supporting what was learned during the day.

Homework requirements are well-defined and effectively communicated in a predictable way. I don't have to ask my kids what their homework is, because we all know. Our kids see homework as an achievable task, rather than frustrating busy work.

All of the teachers my kids have had have been excellent. My kids have connected with them and have thrived under their direction.

Our kids feel safe and included and that makes all the difference in their development. It is an environment of integrity, compassion, and respect; which is the best way to teach those things.

The office staff and administrators are caring, effective, and are great to work with.

The diversity in this school, combined with the attitudes demonstrated by the faculty make it an ideal environment to teach children to respect and accept each-other's differences.
Posted: June 6, 2017
The faculty and staff work tirelessly to give our kids the best experience possible. They really do a great job.
Posted: June 6, 2017
Homework has been high quality reinforcement of learned materials in limited doses. They don't get hours of busy work or confusing new material as homework. Compared to our friends kids at other schools it seems to be a much better solution.

The teachers at Dover always go the extra mile to teach and connect with the kids. They are creative and really knowbehat they are doing.

We have had experience with several elementary schools and Dover stands out with the most caring and respectful kids. The kids work together as a community and there is much less bullying than other schools.

Two of our children are autistic and we have been overwhelmed with the individualized support and acceptance they have received from all of the staff. They enjoy going to school and have been on honor roll every grading period.
Posted: June 6, 2017
The atmosphere is largely one of community and cooperation among the students instead of adversarial and competitive. The teachers and staff keep their eyes and ears open and are usually able to stop problems before they start.

We love the teachers, administration, and special needs support staff at Dover. I can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else.
