Kids are seating on the floor to learn. The phone pouches are ineffective. Just a bad school now.

I went here for my freshman from august 14th-may 24th of year 2023-2024. Let me just say that my freshman year was horrible such as miserable. I mean that in no exaggeration. This school alone affected me and my mental health, I ended up passing the year, but every report card I had was barely passing. The teachers I had did not teach well. I see no point in the yonder pouches because even with no phones the learning environment is still wack. Sure the school has a little diversity but the white kids get everything! Look at the cheer team..Im so glad I moved schools. I’m only grateful for this school because I met 3-5 amazing people.

This school represents the worst in public education. There is no real teaching that goes on. Particularly since Covid the teachers just dial it in. They offer no tutoring. There is no rigor, even in Advanced classes. They are not prepared for college. Discipline is non existent. Brawls are daily. No consequences. Bullying is rampant. No one cares. Kids are not safe. Even though it’s a diverse school, the white kids get everything. It is not inclusive at all. There is no college counseling. Basically, no one cares about the kids and it shows. The district as a whole is a complete failure, as they have had to close 5 schools. If you want your kids to have a positive school experience and be prepared for college, send them somewhere else.

I hate this school so much. Its like were in a prison. And to make things worse, the staff is so rude and cold to students. They make you feel so small. Its either do what they say or face the consequences, we’re literally teenagers/kids what more do they want from us. Being in this school sucks so much and i hate it, i wish i could just move so i wouldnt be there anymore.

I hate this school tremendously. So many other students feel the same way too. You can tell they really don’t care about the wellbeing of the students. School is stressful enough, but they make it worse by making you put your phone/headphones in a locked pouch, blocking everything on the Chromebook, doing random phone searches, etc . It feels like we’re prisoners and we’re being punished for simply having our phone/headphones. And also, they can keep your property for multiple days to “process”!! They only care about academic achievement so they can make more money. In the real world, we are going to be able to have access to our devices and we need to be able to learn that self control. Everyone is sick of being treated like middle schoolers

I am currently a senior at Lake Highlands, and I believe this is a good school. Most of the staff, teachers, counselors, etc are very helpful and care about their students. I have dealt with serious family emergencies, mental health emergencies, and so much more and the people at this school are very cooperative!

Homework: It really depends on the classes you take. AP classes will obviously have more homework. Some classes don’t even have homework, but they only do if you don’t finish your work in class.

Teachers: Some are good, some need a personality and not to have their personality be their career (Erin Chesal). If you need help, TALK TO YOUR TEACHER. You can’t expect them to know that you are struggling without talking to them. If you are struggling with a class, talk to the teacher. Ask them if you should drop the class. I was concerned about my grade in AP Human, so I talked to the teacher and she convinced me to stay. Now do I regret it, not sure. But did it help me to talk to her, yes.

Leadership: They have so many opportunities to be in a leadership role. Now a lot of the roles, like Student Counsel, are popularity votes. If you want a leadership role, join a club and talk to the sponsor about being president or something like that.

Character: They have made lots of videos and stuff like that to promote being kind and all the stuff. Honestly, it’s boring and cheesy. First, a rude person isn’t gonna watch that video at all. Then second, if they do watch it, the dumb video won’t make them change their personality. Character is also defined by who you hang around, so think about that too (parents reading this, i’m looking at you)

Learning Differences: I personally don’t have any learning difficulties, but I have seen some teachers say that you should talk to them before a test to get your 504 accomodations. So TALK TO YOUR TEACHER. They won’t know what you need so TALK TO THEM. (I’m putting this in all caps, so people know that it’s not that hard to do. I’m currently living in a pandemic and i’m doing everything i need to be doing)

Bullying: I have not been personally bullied, but I see many signs around the school for Peer Mediation. I don’t know how many people actually scan the qr code or use the bit.ly link. But it is available for all the see and use.

I was happy to have homework because from the other School that I went to before I came here to Lake Highlands High School did not have that many homework.

Posted: August 27, 2020

They helped me to finish my High School year.

Posted: August 27, 2020

The teachers are there to help the students out with their work.

Posted: August 27, 2020

The teachers are always are there for me.

Posted: August 27, 2020

Yes because I had a really hard time making friends and learning too.

Posted: August 27, 2020

Yes because I had to tell an adult about it a lot in the school.

Posted: September 23, 2019

My boys came from a private school and have been excepted and supported at the school. Parents and students have a supportive and accepting attitude.

Posted: September 23, 2019

My kids have not had any trouble keeping up with their assignments and are able to talk to the teachers about it if they have problems.

Posted: September 23, 2019

Like any school, some teachers are better than others.

Posted: September 23, 2019

The parents are very involved and supportive of students.

Posted: September 23, 2019

This is a good school, it just lacks fundings for all the things that do not fall under the male athletics department category.

The communication is real poor. I've email and called without response. One teacher told my son, she doesn't make extra credit become it's too much work for her. The counselor was rude when I call to talk about my son's schedule. Horrible experience overall. Some are precisely there to get a check.

The school isnt so bad itself. About half the staff in the front office is rude. One woman was so rude and had great attitude. Someone was missing and she just buzzed me in to cover for her then later told me that she "shouldnt have let me in the first place" which was rude considering she didn't even know what I needed to begin with and that i needed to "leave the building now" rather than simply telling me she could not help me.

The positive reviews are from people who attended a long time ago. I doubt if it is similar now to what it was then. Teachers don't care and don't stay too long. Everyone passes their classes then fails on the state tests, or quits school. I can't see how this school prepares a person for college and the AP classes have a poor passing rate.

This school is a complete joke. They teachers don't teach and they clearly only provide for the male sport teams, their wranglers, and the cheerleader; which none of these organizations are even close to award winning. The school only cares about money and having the best test grades which is surprising since all of the textbooks are either out of date or only enough for a classroom set. If the district didn't provide what they did this school would be in the gutter. This building( I hate to even call it a school) also decides to punish there entire student body when they are unhappy in God knows what reason. This school only cares about you if you bring in money. No one should ever have to suffer through a highschool hateing every moment. How sad is it when a kid would rather go to sleep and never wake up then get an education, what happen to these should be the best moments of your life? This school is trash.

Good school with excellent athletics programs. Teachers do a good job. Neighborhood is too costly.
