This school has taught me so much! There were obviously some hard days, but that's life. All of the admin definitely did their jobs, kept everyone in place, safe, and handled any problem immediately. Although, most of them were intimidating to the students. I think the magnets were a great experience, each magnet teacher does their job well and makes sure that every student is helped. Some of the teachers I had, were a little messy at times, but at the end of the school day wanted to help us learn about their passion. If you are a sports person, then Athletics will be a great experience for making friendships, and getting great coaching. I did it both years and loved it! A lot of the after school programs are another great way to make friends. I think my favorite part was the freedom of being able to work in the hallways and library. Everyone working there cares, wants to make everything fun, and wants to help the students learn! Mr. Vega was a very involved principal, who cares a lot. If you are looking for a fun, exciting and caring junior high, this is the one!

This is an amazing school, it has many options on classes, teachers and fits interests of all. I am in two magnets and it is perfectly manageable and fun, I would suggest trying out for two just in case you don't make one. Also the athletics program is amazing, I was on B-team basketball and am now in soccer and let me tell you, it doesn't disappoint, both teams have ended the season undefeated. So if you don't know what school in RISD to go to, please consider coming here, to West Junior High.

West is one of the few schools in RISD to earn distinctions in all of the 7 possible categories. The teachers and staff really seem to understand how to reach kids during this sensitive transition period in their lives. They also promote a true arts & technology culture by being on the forefront of new programs like a maker's space at the school and impromptu performances during lunch. Students enjoy going to school here - so refreshing!

The school itself is very well in helping students with academics. Of course, some teachers vary on how they teach and it can either be a positive or negative effect towards the students. For example, some math teachers will not let kids turn in work if they are sick for even one day and will either make them come in before or after School to complete the assignment(s). Since I lived far away from this school, I did not have the privilege to come in before school since my parent has work early and cannot take me in the morning for just one assignment. I can stay after school, but the school administration does not do a good job at telling students what late bus they need to get on or if that bus is even going to show up that day. One time, I stayed after school to help with a project and when I waited for the buses, they never came. I ended up finding out later that the buses don't come that day, but the administration failed to ever tell the bus students. There isn't any bullying in the school, except the occasional fight which then causes the administration to punish students that had nothing to do with it. The students, mostly, are decent people that will respect you if you don't do anything towards them. I, myself, was never bothered except by some annoying students, but most people are never bothered. The subjects are taught well and the Pre-AP classes have the right amount of challenge to them. The orchestra and band are very good, especially the wind symphony and advanced orchestra. Your school life, though will vary person to person but if you live far away from this school, it can make your life very tiring. I have to admit, that this junior high is much better than some other junior highs in the district and the staff is very nice. Another complaint is, the passing periods are 3 MINUTES. There is no time to go to the bathroom and in most classes, the teachers won't let you go. This is incredibly unfair, especially for girls(IT'S MIDDLE SCHOOL). It's also unfair because at another junior High in this district has 6 minute passing periods. this is horrible because, spoiler alert, girls in middle school have periods. and if the administration isn't going to acknowledge this, then at least I can. Also, other junior highs in this district *cough* Westwood *cough* *cough* have 4+ minutes and the students are allowed to carry backpacks.

Amazing, creative, technologically-advanced magnet school of distinction (7 out of 7 in fact). Students are cared for and supported and teachers are some of the best of the best. One of the best junior high schools in DFW!

Horrible. I am transferring schools due to my negative experience here. Had to leave because of bullying not being handled at all. Also, a girl with aspergers was transferred to a different school just because she had a breakdown, and no help was given. The teachers were rude to her and demeaned her. Also, we were planning to be in one class for this semester, data entry, a new class required by state, but now we have to just sit around in the office doing nothing unless they tell us to. The teachers are okay, I guess, however the substitutes which we have often are less than okay. One substitute just sat around looking at.. not safe for work materials instead of teaching us. Also, for an art project, we were expected to plan and make a model of a 7 foot tall and wide sculpture within a budget of 3000 dollars, and present it to those in charge of the district, something a seventh grader can't handle. We could have spent that time learning something instead of giving a bunch of 12 and 13 year olds a task that was impossible for even adults.

RWJH was an amazing school and I am sooo glad that I decided to allow my daughter to seek something further in her educational experience. I think the continued foundation of excellence I received 15-20 years ago is still reigning in the Big state of Texas to this day. The principal, teachers, officer Ream we will miss you guys as we move on to RHS Magnet. We hope to make you all proud! Loved this school!
