They started not giving kids homework, although they are still required to read daily. Not sure if this is hurting or helping. My daughter seems happier though.

Our teachers and staff lead by example and reward our kiddo's good choices by handing out tickets when the kids are caught doing something good. The tickets are then placed in a weekly drawing and a few kiddos from each grade level are drawn to win small prizes and get to help out in other areas (office, library, classroom, etc). The kid love it and they all work so hard to earn those tickets.

My son loves his school, teachers and friends (schoolmates). Organization and communication are the only areas I see and feel could use some improvement throughout the school. I am hoping to help make some improvements myself by volunteering my time as much as I can. It's better to be a part of a solution than sit back an complain about what may lack.

Faculty and staff strive to challenge students in their education at West. Constantly searching for opportunities to create an ever-growing enthusiasm for learning and critical thinking. As a district, our motto is "One Team, One Purpose!" That is our ultimate goal: to prepare students for their next journey in life and encourage them in their endeavors. Every teacher is well aware that we have the opportunity to make a difference in children's lives . Each day, every year! As a third grade teacher, my reward is knowing that I have made a positive difference in a child's growth and development. They depend on us and look to us for guidance. I think,as educators, we should always be trying to improve and search for ways, to increase our effectiveness and teaching style. I consider five stars to be perfect. But if we are always looking for ways to improve, we will never have five stars. For the last 3 years, we have been implementing a guided reading program, including a number of staff training on reading/writing workshop. We are in desperate need of up-to- date reading material for whole class and small group. $5,000 would be a dream come true!
