Nothing but Drugs, clicks, and terrible teachers. Attended from grade 7-12 and had a terrible experience. School got demolished by a tornado and was promised a rebuild timeline which of course, never happened. Old staff has left and has been replaced with terrible people who only care about taking your money. Do not enroll your children to this dump.

Please do not send your child to Dallas Lutheran. The terrible shape that the school is in now is because of years of dishonest, incompetent, and sinful mismanagement and greed. They could build a state of the art building, but the ones entrusted with your children are still rotten, so it won't matter. The environment is unhealthy. The people who are on the board have been there for years and have suported the worst of the worst. They have done nothing but help in the demise of the school. Positive reviews are from Lutheran teachers or their spouses who have children who attend DLS on scholarships. It's truly pitiful. My children witnessed things at DLS that should not have gone on, especially in such a small school. The students are not in a safe place. They claim to be Christians, but what our family witnessed is anything but Christian behavior. We were glad to hear that Todd Nitz left, but the school has continued to decline, because while he was a terrible, dishonest principal and person, he was not the only bad seed. Parents, please avoid DLS. Our kids were so happy when we decided not to return and they are finally learning.

There is not a single educational environment that is perfect. No school should admit being the right place for every student. My children’s lives at DL were not always easy, but they were never alone in their efforts. They grew academically, were accepted to EVERY college/university they applied to. They were involved in both athletics and the Arts and had many opportunities they could not have received at a large public school. Their faith was challenged but not judged. If necessary my children were disciplined with fore-thought and not simple reaction. When earned, my children were praised and encouraged. Was every day rainbows and candy? No. But we’re MOST of their days beneficial and worth remembering, yes (at least according to them). Both are successful contributing adults to society, both have compassion for animals (Vet) and people (medicine). Both live out a continually faith based life, and both have ongoing relationships with their former teachers.

The Middle Schhol Administrator does not believe 7th and 8th graders should be spending hours and hours completing “busy work”. Attention to test days is monitored so the student doesn’t have an unusual amount Of work on one day.
As the child ages, the type of homework and amount changes due to growth.

Posted: January 18, 2020

Often teachers are as effective as the students efforts in class allow and the support of the child’s parents to the effort they put in at home. Education of a child is a team effort. Teachers cannot possibly “fix” every issue, but at DL they will attempt to try on behalf of the student. I say “agree” and not “strongly” agree, because no teacher can be 100% effective without student and parent effort.

Posted: January 18, 2020

The school makes every ATTEMPT at developing characteristics all parent wish for their child. Students are indeed held accountable as much as a school is permitted, to those with lack of integrity, compassion and respect. These are things learned by ALL involved in raising any child.

Posted: January 18, 2020

Now that change is on the horizon, the Administrators that have the most positive effect will be allowed to do their jobs and with change often comes renewed spirit and dedication on the part of all involved.

Posted: January 18, 2020

Without question the school makes every attempt to be aware of any learning difference or issue a child has, and complies by all state guidelines for families with proper, and well documented issues.

Bullies are bullies. Often the parents of a bully child is a bully. To say that demeaning behavior is allowed is simply not true. A school can only deal with what the teachers see and hear. If they are not supported by a parent trying to get help for their child, or if a child will not cooperate - what can be done? What if someone is accused without proper information?

Posted: October 18, 2018

All three of my children have been or are DLS students. The environment is small and personal. The teachers and staff are very engaged and interactive with the students. My oldest graduated with admittance to a number of universities as well as financial awards. My other two are still attending the school and love it - I mean, they love it EVERY day - I think that says a lot!

Posted: October 18, 2018

The teachers are aware that too much homework can be detrimental so they have a variety of ways in which the students can do work at school through study hall and after school. There is homework but the load is manageable.

Posted: October 18, 2018

This school has an excellent staff! The teachers are experienced, tenured educators that have a passion for teaching. The thing I love about our teachers is that they truly care about their students. I've had so many experiences where teachers have reached out to me just to tell me how my kid was doing or a funny thing he/she said, etc. They are terrific Christian role models and I'm so very thankful they are helping my kiddos grow up!

Posted: October 18, 2018

DLS is Christian based learning. Students are taught to follow Christ's example and be the best individuals that they can be in all that they do.

Posted: October 18, 2018

I've had all three of my kids at DLS and am so pleased with the leadership of the school. The middle school and high school have their own principals and both are so very terrific with their age group. They both work very hard to engage with the kids and monitor their success. They plan great outings and social events for the kids (middle and high school stay fairly separated.) They are compassionate, Godly individuals who engage with the kids appropriately and frequently.

Posted: October 18, 2018

For those students with learning differences, DLS offers a specific program with tutoring, extra help, extended timeframes, etc. for the need. My son tutored for a while and worked with some of the kids who needed some extra help and really enjoyed working in that area of the school

Posted: October 18, 2018

Bullying is simply not tolerated. If there is a bullying situation that the school becomes aware of, they deal with it swiftly, judiciously and appropriately.

My daughter spent all 4 years at DLS and graduated in 2014. She did not have learning disabilities and had gone to some of the top private schools in Dallas and Richardson public schools.
The school was safe, the teachers caring and inspiring, the administration calm and professional. They do an excellent job and they are not trying to "get every kid in Harvard." My daughter was too stressed from the "pre-Harvard" schools. In Dallas, most private schools seem to believe that if you pay the tuition you want your kid to go to Harvard. Most operate on how high their ratings are. DLS operates on teaching your child, helping them engage in extra-curricular activities, have Christian values, and be able to make decisions in the world. I often wonder what would have happened to my daughter if she had not gone to Dallas Lutheran. Keep up the good job, folks!

Dallas Lutheran is a great sure there's room for improvement like any other school but the atmosphere of the school is really family like. The teachers and student body are really nice and a great thing about this school is that it's not really clique and the teachers will help you 1 on 1 if you ask for it.

DL is an incredible, nurturing school environment. Most of the students are in sports, arts, etc. Everyone can find a place to belong. Each student must look for their niche within the DL community. I believe that there is something for everyone. The center of everything is Christ--the classroom, and extra-curriculars. The academics are superior to those in public school, even the AP and dual credit classes are better than the ones experienced in DISD. Students are learning how to study and learn. They will be prepared for success in college and life when they graduate from DL. Mr. Bangert, Mr. Nitz, and Mr. Krause are continually looking for ways to improve the school. They are making great strides in technology, fine arts, and school community. The school board and administration are seeking out ways to bring in more students and build a strong community environment. Go check out DL and find out for yourself what it is like.

I think of this school as a joke. My child came home everyday and when I asked them what they did in school, they would show me the work and it would be something you would do in 3rd grade. I can't believe I payed money for my child to go to this school.

Posted: November 3, 2014

Dallas Lutheran has provided a very good education for my son while giving him the opportunity to participate in all sports for a "sports minded" kid. He feels successful and apart of a good organization.

Posted: September 2, 2014

I am a parent of a former student. Would not recommend. Very small. Teachers are not professional. If you are not an athlete - the coaches will bully your child. I did not see Christ like behavior at this school.

Posted: May 29, 2014

There are a few good good things like the school spirit and school events but that is all. Besides the fact that the academics are not challenging, it is just sad that I hated my year there. I begged my parents to leave. Thank goodness I left. The Teachers were nice but they did not look out for any students well-being. So many kids in my grade have serious issues with either bullying, disorders, and an all around lazy attitude. Of course everyone has issues but this school was full of them. If you are not a school athlete and you don't drink good luck making friends. Some people enjoy their experience sure, but I found that people at public school were more Christ-like than anyone at Lutheran. I'm sorry I hope they improve. The teachers can not make the kids be more respectful but they could at least monitor them better and encourage finding strength in God - not drugs or pride.

This is a student's point of view who used to go hear. I left this school because it didn't help prepare me for collage and their way of helping you doesn't work. This school made me so miserable that I begged my mom to take me out and go to another school. I'm currently going to a new school called Bending Oaks and It's so much better than Dallas Lutheran. I have been learning more stuff and use full things at things at this school. I highly recommend it for all students.

The teachers and staff of Dallas Lutheran know the students by name and are dedicated to helping them achieve their goals. I highly recommend DLS to parents who want to prepare their son or daughter for college as well as teach them the importance of community service and family commitments. Dallas Lutheran is a refreshing change to other private schools in Dallas. The class size is small and allows for better communication between teachers, students and parents. Students and teachers use iPads as part of the school curriculum. Dallas Lutheran provides a wonderful positive environment for learning and succeeding.

Having had children in four private Christian schools and Park Cities public, we can attest that Dallas Lutheran does an incredible job of getting students into colleges of their choice and allows them to obtain college credit for classes. Teachers and students use iPads with integrated technology. Some subjects are "Flipped" classrooms with youtube lessons, so students may access lectures 24/7, while most written problems are completed in class the following day. This cutting-edge technique allows more one-on-one time with students and opportunity for more questions, to promote mastery of topics. The infrastructure to insure success of the students is exceptional, and we've never found such supportive teachers. Kids graduating from DL are undoubtedly prepared for college, but lack being burned-out, stressed-out, and anxiety-ridden before they enter adulthood. The pace allows families to enjoy life or a hobby outside of school without forfeiting their precious time, never to be recovered. That aspect alone has been life-changing for us. Our kids are much happier, healthier, and we are all more rested. Kids can recover their childhood and enjoy it while they still can!

We have since moved on to another school from DL, and we are very glad we did. DL has an extremely loyal group of parents who send all their children here year after year, so the great reviews here make sense. However, we personally found the academics to be inferior - absolutely not challenging and lackluster. I'm sure many of the parents at DL have children who made excellent grades and everyone is happy. The problem is it is very easy to make excellent grades at this school, no matter what the student's abilities are. For some parents, that is enough. Most of the teachers at DL have been there forever, and there is very little innovation at the school. Also, the Christian aspect of the school is lacking. There are rather perfunctory chapels that most of the kids yawn through, and then very half-hearted offerings are taken. My daughter was surprised with the attitudes of many of the students and said the goings-on there were just like any urban high school. There were mission trips, but little day-to-day, classroom emphasis on one's faith. I think there are much better Christian schools for the money with much better academics and spiritual emphasis. DL parents won't agree!

My son and I choose this school for his High School. Although bright young man he needed to be challenged and at the time was not...He came from a traditional public school environment and upon entering DLS he found it to be different and difficult. After the first term he settled in with the help of a compassionate and dedicated staff. They helped and encouraged him to grow and learn how great he could be. He is now in his sophomore year in college and was been accepted in to Phi Theta Kappa honor society for completing his 4th semester with 4.0. His plans are to attend medical school upon completing his under grad. his comment to me this year was " I would have never been he without DLS" and the dedication and education they helped me with. Just a testimony to the faith based dedication and support at DLS...Best decision we ever made.

Our son has made huge progress at DLS and matured into an excellent student with the generous help of his teachers and the Talent Zone coaches. The sports are excellent as well. Very dedicated faculty! We feel blessed to be at DLS.

Our daughter is in her 3rd year in attendance at DLS. We are so pleased to have her in an environment of high academic standards. The teachers have high expectations, and are very supportive. Extracurricular activities, especially drama and voice options have engaged our daughter. The campus is small, but nice. The school requires community service activities, which I believe give the students an opportunity to learn how to serve others. We couldn't be more pleased and feel very blessed to have our daughter here. I highly recommend DLS to parents who want to provide a college prep atmosphere for their son or daughter.

Posted: April 30, 2011

Our daughter had an amazing middle school experience -- and that should mean a great deal as those are some of the most difficult years in school. Thanks DLS for what you do to not only educate but also nurture and care for our teens.

Dallas Lutheran has wonderful caring Christian teachers. My daughter is in 8th grade and I am very happy with the school.

Posted: April 24, 2011

The teachers really want you to learn and help you. It's a small school but it's big enough to have all the opportunities of a large school.

Posted: April 22, 2011

Dallas Lutheran School has been one of the best kept secrets in Dallas for over 30 years. The dedicated staff at DLS continues to go above and beyond what could ever be expected of them to serve the students who are priviledged to be a part of this excellent program.

I have nothing but good things to say about DLS. My son is a 7th grader completing his first year at the school and we have been impressed not only with the quality of education he is receiving, but with the relationship between the faculty and students. As a public school teacher, I can say that DLS is the school environment that all educators dream of: a great relationship with students in which the atmosphere of caring and trust fosters academic, social and character growth. I have also been impressed with the ease of communication with the faculty and their willingness to answer any questions which we may have. This is a great school with an incredible faculty. I hope that more families in the Dallas area hear about DLS and avail themselves of one of the best educational opportunities around.

The students at Dallas Lutheran have it all!! They have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities...AP classes, honors classes, academic competitions, athletics, drama, and music. But the best thing about Dallas Lutheran is their staff. The staff knows and appreciates each individual child as a unique person with their own strengths and weaknesses. When was the last time a teacher thanked you for the privilege of teaching your child?

We love DLS!!! Our sons have greatly enjoyed participating in Football, Baseball, and Track, and have received a great education from teachers who truly care for their students. DLS is a the best value in town for a strong Christian college prep education. Our older son is graduating this year and heading to Baylor. I strongly encourage you to check out DLS.

My son has been at DLS since 7th grade and will be going into his Junior year in 2011. I have a masters degree and in all my years of school I never once said "I can hardly wait to go back to school". That's my son's attitude every summer because this school is a loving, working and nuturing community of students and teachers that love where they are. It has been one of the brightest parts of all of our lives - the relationship that we have with this school.

Posted: April 18, 2011

This is a great private school that not many people know about. The teachers are outstanding and work so hard so make the kids feel special. The school doesn't do much advertising, so I want to get the word out that this is a place your child can strive in, feel special and is very affordable. Please consider this school. The class ratios are very small and the kids get individual attention.

Posted: April 18, 2011

We couldn't be happier with the level of education our son is getting at Dallas Lutheran School. The school fosters personal, physical and Christian growth along with academic growth. The student population is friendly and caring along with the staff.

Posted: April 18, 2011

The teachers and staff are awesome. It's the happiest I've ever seen my child. She actually loves going to school. I'm not just saying that. She tends to grumble about school, but it hasn't been that way since being on the DLS campus. Please join us. You won't regret it.

I love this school. My daughter is completing her freshmen (and first year) at this school. It is a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment. The teachers, administrators, and staff are caring and know each student. They have great sports, too. I especially like their integrated tutoring center (Talent Zone) where students get exceptional one-on-one help. I also like the way the whole school is involved in community service. I can honestly say that I have never heard any parent say a bad word about this school. They are a well-kept secret in Dallas. We are even encouraging other parents we know to enroll their daughters here. I only wish I had found it sooner so I could have enrolled my daughter here in 7th grade and skipped the tumultuous junior high years in public school. One more thing: she had previously attended a different very expensive Dallas private school for 4 years. This school is better and some of the kids from that private school are at DLS now!

Posted: April 18, 2011

My son is in 7th grade at DLS and loves it. The support he gets from the staff is amazing and he has grown so much in his academics and faith while being there. If you are considering a school for your child, the small class sizes, caring staff and Christian education make it worth your time to consider DLS.

Posted: April 18, 2011

Dallas Lutheran School (DLS) is fabulous! We have been at the school for three years and love it! You need to consider DLS if you are looking for a small, challenging high school for your child!

Posted: April 18, 2011

Wonderful, supportive community full of enrichment activities for all students. Great curriculum and excellent teachers that are very involved with the students. It also has available an on- site program that helps students who need extra help - this program has really helped my son excel in school. My son is involved in many more activities than he was in his prior larger school and is much more confident. The sports programs are also phenomenal and they really do build men (and women) of character. This is a gem of a school!

Posted: April 18, 2011

I recommend to any loving parent to send a child to this school. It has great teachers and wonderful leadership.

Posted: April 18, 2011

We love the school!!!! My girls are very happy. We worth the affordable investment for a quality education. You will be happy here for sure!

We can't say enough about the wonderful christian teachers at Lutheran High. They do everything to make sure every child is successful. Two of our children have graduated from the school, and have gone on to be extremely successful in college. Because of the exceptional math program, our son is now a math major at Texas A&M. He was just given an award for top Junior Student of the College of Science. Also, our daughter is just finishing her 1st year of college at Mary Hardin Baylor. Thanks to the influence of her anatomy and biology teacher, she has chosen a school that fits her personality perfectly. Go Mrs. Krause!! We are so greatful for the influence the teachers have made on our kids. They will certainly be life long learners.

This is a great school, academically, socially, and for religion. The teacher to student ratio provides great direct interaction between the faculty and the kids. The administration is very approachable, and is focused on the success of the students. It has all the extracurricular activities, and with the school size, my daughter can participate and excel in anything she chooses. Additionally, my daughter has a learning difference, and the school works with us to ensure she gets the most out of her education. The faculty and the Talent Zone process is committed to finding the right ways to help your child learn. We are extremely pleased with the school, and look forward to the next couple of years at DLS.

Dallas Lutheran School is one of the best kept secrets in Dallas. In fact, perhaps my primary complaint is that the administration, teachers and parents are too modest and humble about the school and what its students accomplish while maintaining core principles and values. My daughter entered DLS as a middle school student, and both we and she were immediately taken by the degree of care and sincerity of the teachers and staff. DLS has been an academically strong yet nurturing environment for my middle schooler at a time where so many competing interests for her time (not all beneficial) are entering her world. Our middle schooler has had opportunities in athletics, academic competitions and music and theater that have given her a great deal of pride in accomplishment. Thanks to a forward-thinking DLS guidance counselor, she is already excited about the college experience. All of us have been grateful and excited at the blossoming of our daughter, which is attributable in part to the DLS. We highly recommend DLS to parents of middle and high school children who are seeking a faith-based educational experience for their child.

My child has been at DLS since 7th grade. DLS has provided a structured yet loving and nurturing environment. I highly recommend the school especially if your child excels in a smaller learning environment and is college bound.

What a great school and awesome atmosphere for learning. My son will finish 8th grade this year and he looks forward to beginning his freshman year at DLS. Everyone at DLS cares, challenges students, and encourages them to succeed. Go Lions!

We moved to Dallas from San Antonio, DLS provided a wonderful environment for my son to learn, make friends and feel a sense of community almost instantaneously. I truly feel that DLS works to grow the entire person, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. The school is truly a gift to my son and I.
