I've had two children complete high school at FMHS and 30 exchange students who have all had terrific experiences with their teachers and the counselors. There have been a few athletic coaches who I wouldn't recommend to be working with children, but you can't win them all.

This school is a mixed bag. its a hit or miss. Some teachers are great, some are OK.. Counselors is more like assistants and not really counselling the students which I guess is perfect when you run a cookie cutter school.

School leadership seems nice but is what I consider lazy and doesn't really care. Rumors says the principal has heath issues and doesn't seem well.

When my parents have approached the school for feedback or concerns, they get a clear view of the "good Ol boy" style. Too much protectionism and looking through fingers.

Absolutely horrible school that rushes through classes and tests do not represent the material taught. Trying to teach algebra 2 in 6 months is an absolute joke. A lot of money is spent on select sports and advanced teams but the rest of the kids get what’s left over. If this one of the top schools in the area then that is a huge problem

I have had 2 children complete their entire high school education at Flower Mound HS. There are a lot of very bright kids there and plenty of opportunities to engage in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Both my kids did very well, even though they were not in the top 10 percent. It can be quite competitive on many level, not just academically. This year, my children are both graduating college, one with a teaching degree and one with a medical degree. I have no regrets about sending them to FMHS.

Not a great school if you are looking for academics. They care more about sports than encouraging academically high achieving students. National Merit Scholarship winners did not get any recognition from the school but they are always loud to applaud for sports wins. Evening with the Stars winners never even got a shoutout on any of the school social media platforms. Such a shameful management. Check out Coppell school district. They are more inclusive & also proud of their students who are academically high achieving along with extracurricular activities.

Both of my kids graduated from FMHS, great school!!! Both of my children went to large out of state schools and both were totally prepared for college. After their freshman year in college I asked them both how the adjustment was between high school and college, both responded that it was no big deal, about the same. Both kids graduates with very good college GPA’s (3.65 in engineering and 3.8 in liberal arts). I credit FMHS teachers and the block scheduling policy for getting them ready and helping them succeed. Overall outstanding high school!!!

FMHS is excellent! The classes are engaging and are helping to prepare me for my future. The upgrades to the FM9 campus are very nice, but some of the money really should have been used to update elements of the main campus. There are a lot of students to counselors, but they do help. I have heard that they often are not aware of some college admissions processes (a student highly qualified for MIT but was not told about the thesis required for admissions), but they do have pertinent information. I’d recommend reading course guides online and using external sources to verify information. They have a lot of students to keep up with. Overall, it is an amazing school!

Our daughter has had amazing after-hours homework support provided by numerous teachers and staff during her 4 years at Flower Mound HS. This on-demand support structure meant less frustration, more completed assignments and better homework grades. A+

Posted: May 11, 2017

Teachers at FM High School make themselves available before, during and after class, even after school and evenings. Our student received multiple letters of recommendation for college, even from the teachers who she said were the toughest. As a result of the teachers she's had, she is one of Flower Mound HS top STEM students and is attending one of the top Engineering colleges in the fall to study materials science, physics and mathematics. Teachers at Flower Mound are brilliant, motivating and supportive, without a doubt.

Again, being a top student academically and simultaneously playing varsity soccer, she was taught "win as a team, lose as a team." No one student or player is ever credited individually for a win or blamed for a loss. This built a comradery among her peers and teammates, strengthening and putting character, respect and integrity before ego.

Posted: May 11, 2017

Our student received excellent mentoring and guidance from faculty, staff and especially her varsity soccer coach, Coach Tsapos. She learned the importance of teamwork, time management to participate in competitive sports and still excel academically, and now is considered a leader herself among her peers because of the examples set forth by FMHS educators.

Posted: May 11, 2017

Our student suffers from severe ADHD and requires medication during the school day to treat it. The school faculty and school nurse worked with her doctor and every day like clock work, she got her medication. Without this amazing support she would not have been able to perform at such a high level. Technically she is a student with a learning disability, yet she is graduating in the top 1% of her class, if that says anything. As parents, we are eternally grateful.

Posted: May 11, 2017

For her first two years at FMHS, our daughter had a soccer coach who turned a blind eye for years to bullying and intimidation within the girls' soccer program. FMHS fired this coach who was replaced with Coach M. Tsapos who his very first year as coach led the girls to win the 6A State Championship in girls varsity soccer. He had zero tolerance for the bullying that had been so prevalent under the previous coach. This should have been done much earlier, but it did eventually happen in time for my student to benefit from the improvement.

5 Stars, A+, Superior: I have never been more impressed with a public school district as I am with LISD. My daughter Alex started kindergarten at Old Settlers, attended McKamy Middle School and is graduating this year from Flower Mound High School. She could not possibly be more prepared for college and life in general than she is, and I credit the incredible educational experience she's received from LISD from day one. She is going on to University of Michigan College of Engineering to pursue her PhD in materials engineering with minors in physics and mathematics. Thank you, FMHS and LISD, from one grateful and very proud Mom.

Administration demonstrates no integrity, compassion, or respect. My 14 year old daughter, a new Freshman, wondered out loud one day why the attendance clerk worked there when she so clearly disliked teenagers... Teachers are fine. Administration is horrible.

Posted: January 10, 2017

The staff has been horrible to work with. The counselors, the attendance clerks, the APs make the child and parent feel like it's a battle between them and you and they are going to win it at all costs, the child be damned. This is the worst experience we've had anywhere.

Posted: January 10, 2017

This school assumes that every kid learns the same way and that every kid is brilliant. There are NO extra services during school for kids who struggle. NONE. No in-school tutoring, resource rooms, teacher aids, peer tutoring, study hours for homework--NOTHING. The school has over 3300 kids--but just 8 overworked counselors/staff who likewise offer no support. The kids take four (relatively difficult) classes every semester and it's very much sink or swim. STAY AWAY from this school and this district. It's all about awards and accolades and appearances and not at all about the student.

A 2016 study from an organization called Children at Risk ranks Flower Mound High as the 67th-best high school in Texas. It gives it a rating of A+. This study's rankings are based on four variables: 1) Student Achievement; 2) Campus Performance; 3) Growth; and 4) College Readiness.

The 2015 data for Algebra I and English testing looks incomplete at best. Why are the results from only 11 students (Algebra I) and 10 students (English) being used to provide a GreatSchools rating? Having a high school drop from a 9 to a 6 based on the results of so few tests is ridiculous.

GreatSchools is only using STAAR End-Of-Course state exam scores for their "overall" rating... It is misleading as we no longer have 9th graders on our campus which include 9th grade STAAR EOCs - Alg 1, Eng I, Biology. FMHS is only administering these exams to students who are retesting or are just now taking those course for the first time as an upperclassman.

Please see information below.
1. Flower Mound HS is a 10–12 grade campus. The feeder FM9 campus has only been open for 2 years, starting 2014-2015. Thus the discrepancies in the scores. We used to have freshmen on campus and thus freshmen level exams of Alg 1, English 1, Biology. Great Schools should only be measuring exams given to the grade levels that are on campus. Those courses and exams include 10th grade – English 2 STAAR EOC exam & 11th – US History STAAR EOC Exam. Any other exam administered are students that are retesting and not a full population of students. If an exam is given to a small populations of students the Texas Education Agency does not measure schools on those values for our state accountability.

2. If the Great Schools rating of 0 – 10 rating are based only on state test scores this is a huge problem! Especially when our College Readiness and SAT/ACT/AP scores are off the charts higher than the state and National Averages. For the exams we do give to students on our campus, English 2 and US History, are well above the state average.

3. FMHS/LISD schools are already at a disadvantage because we are an Accelerate Block campus (much like how colleges operate on Fall / Spring class schedules by semester) and many students are testing during the December fall administration of the STAAR EOC exams when they are enrolled in the course. Fall scores are not in values you are using to rate the schools in Lewisville ISD. Only the Spring scores are represented.

4. Parents and community members who use this site generally do not sit & evaluate the data you are presenting… They only see the drop in test score averages and a low overall rating – without looking at the number of students tested. This grossly misrepresents our school and I am sure many other schools as well that are not full 9th–12th grade campuses. Obviously careful consideration is not paid to ratings if you have one of the highest academic performing schools in the state sitting at a 6.

For reasons previously stated. Mainly, they are engaged and seem to care for the well-being of the students while developing life skills for the students.

Posted: August 21, 2016

This is an area that is discussed frequently. I think in general, all high schools forget that there needs to be a life - school - work balance and 2 hours of homework every night is an unreasonable load. Some teachers are good at recognizing this, but others think their class is the only that is important and don't recognize that if they give an hour of homework without consideration that other classes may do the same.

Posted: August 21, 2016

The school leaders and teachers enforce academic honesty and deal with issues when they come up. They also do not tolerate bullying when they are made aware of issues. There are so many students that step in to assist other students as well. They have a great program called the Circle of Friends where students can mentor and buddy up with special needs and developmentally challenged students. No school is perfect, but Flower Mound High School does a great job at trying to instill integrity and being good citizens.

Posted: August 21, 2016

Both of my children graduated from Flower Mound High School. 1 required special accommodation for testing, etc. and the school was very receptive and accommodating. The counselors have always been very engaged and just like anything in life there are a few teachers that aren't as engaged or caring as some, but by far most employees are excellent at what they do. A few 1 star comments have to do with 1 incident at a basketball game that does not reflect the school, the students or the teachers at the school and was dealt with appropriately. There are lots of extra-curricular activities for all interests, an amazing 50+ national merit scholars last year and a 90%+ college-bound rate after graduation.

Posted: February 24, 2015

Disappointed by the actions of those students at the basketball game and disappointed by the lack of action taken after. These events stunt progress, it's 2015

Posted: January 13, 2015

Terribly unhappy with this school. As others have mentioned, it's a great school if your child is a brainiac, but forget it if your child is just average or below average. There simply is NO help for the kids who struggle academically. Someone posted that they offer credit recovery for kids who fail--which is nice. But how about offering help for kids BEFORE they fail? Sure, they offer tutoring after school, but how about DURING school? Resources only appear if you have the potential to be a National Merit Scholar--like special classes to help you score even higher SATs. BUT if you struggle with chemistry? Well, too bad. Fail. Take it again. Good luck. Many of the teachers are fine and do care. But the counselors are overworked and unhelpful. Even just a little guidance from the counselors regarding the best classes to take would help struggling students find some success. No child left behind? Yeah, right. We moved to Flower Mound because of the schools. Worst mistake ever. Do your child a favor and just go somewhere, anywhere else.

Posted: May 16, 2014

I've taught in 3 different districts and Flower Mound H.S. has their academics together better than any public school I've been in. They push the kids in the PreAP courses and give them standards to achieve. I disagree with some other comments stating there's no help for struggling students. FMHS offers credit recovery courses, the majority of the teachers are there for tutoring and if not they encourage students just ask one of the other teachers in the dept., the sped kids have inclusion teachers in their rooms with them, they also have SSS for sped students to go to if they need more assistance. Admin enforces PDA rules and dress code rules fairly consistently (which you don't see in other huge 5A high schools). For a school with 3,300 students there could be major problems, but compared to the other schools in Lewisville ISD and other 5A high schools around the area, Flower Mound is where I'd send my kids.

Posted: February 16, 2013

The school is great for brilliant and gifted students. It offers nothing, though, to help those who struggle. Nothing. They are shuffled aside and ignored. It is incredibly frustrating.

Posted: August 2, 2012

I graduated FMHS about 4 years ago. I was in no way prepared for college, because the teachers here simply baby students so they don't upset the rich helicopter parents. The students are spoiled brats. High school was a huge waste of my time.

Posted: March 15, 2012

Flower mound is very good if you want academic competition and a dynamic student body. Class ranking among the top here is reserved for the brightest of students and A's in regular classes won't get you above the top 25% without the additional work in pre ap or ap courses. The sports teams are always well funded and facilities are top notch.

Posted: June 29, 2011

Flower Mounds focus on excellence is very aparent in all the teachers and counselors we interacted with. The school values and promotes acedemic accomplishments not just athletic. The staff's focus on student sucess and advancement of all students to secondary education is visable in their record of percent of students moving on to college.
