Plano West administration wants everyone to know that they do not make students follow any rules, but they will punish teachers for even the slightest mistake on the busiest, most important day of the year.

Are you a student who wants to park in the staff parking lot every single day without any consequences? This is the place for you!

Are you a teacher who wants their car damaged by admin placing an impossible-to-remove sticker and residue on their window because for the first time in 8 years of underpaid work, you have forgotten to place your parking tag on your rearview mirror in your haste to get to work 90 unpaid minutes early to wish your students luck on the AP exam you spent all year preparing them for? Plano West will do that for you!

Are you a teacher that wants admin to ignore your emails until they need something from you, at which point they will ignore what you asked and demand you cave to a parent? Welcome on in!

Are you a parent who wants to demean teachers, call them names, lie about them, accuse them of breaking the law, and ignore all evidence presented to you about what your child did while still having admin give you whatever you demand? You've come to the right school!

The grade inflation is INSANE. Mostly due to the rampant cheating and AI use that PWSH admin doesn't want teachers to crack down on, because that would hurt their precious graduation rate.

This was a great school for my daughter. She graduated in 2023. I love the fact that they have a sign language class, which is perfect. She did really well at this school. I will highly recommend this school to anybody that moves into the Plano area. The teachers are great. The counselors are great. They let you know what is going on with these students.

This school is competitive but in a harmful way. People who get left behind, stay behind. Most teachers at the school hardly know my name when I'm in their class, despite it being a semester already. You need to ask for help on subjects, because they definitely won't make the effort to assist you if you don't. But the competition between students is insane. All they talk about is grades and test scores. It's important, however even some students who clearly don't pay attention still manage to pass an AP (!) class. Plano West doesn't care about teaching the students as long as they can pass them. Some students care so much about their academic life it's depressing.

I worked at this school and believe me, the positive reviews do not reflect the whole reality. There's no support from the admin team if you need something. There's no consequence for a kid acting bad, or even cursing. Seeing no consequences, kids go wild and do stupid stuff.

The admin team is so fake, on the surface 'they're all helpful', but when you actually want something, they're - poff - gone. They also want to see a higher graduation rate so they pass all the kids even though some of them DO deserve to fail. Knowing this, kids don't turn in anything and they call the shots at this school. Bullying is over the roof, students even bully their teachers let alone their friends.

All in all, I'm feeling sorry for everyone who's still working there.

Plano West is an highly competitive senior high school in academics. The student population is very diverse. Yes it serves some very affluent communities nearby but it's a friendly environments. Its size provides the opportunities for kids to be able to always find the small circles that each kid can gravitate to. My kid is on an athletic team. So he has an extremely tight schedule given the academic demands and athletic competitions. I know that it might not be for everyone but we love that he learns the good work ethics and habits from the teaches and fellow students. And for that matter, it is not a bad thing to understand that there are always others who can do better in the classrooms or in sports. You do not need to be the best at Plano West to be highly successful.

My daughter came from Japan and I was worried about bullying and their curriculum.
I was so glad that I moved to Plano! The teachers, coaches (they changed the time of ESL so my daughter could play softball), ESL teachers, students went over & beyond to help my daughter. Definitely the best school any of my children have ever attended.
My daughter graduated from college and is self-employed right now.

Thank you Mrs. Nelson!!
Thank you Coach Ledsome!!
Go Wolves!!

The school environment is very competitive. This is a senior high school which has over two thousand junior and senior students. It prepared my two kids very well for college.

Both our daughters graduated from this school. I can't think of anything negative to say. Both shared that their freshman year of college (Auburn University-honors courses) seemed easy after their preparation at PWSHS.

It seems to be that the stereotypes for students who attend Plano West are typically over privileged and rude

Posted: September 6, 2016

I don't know how but that's part of the culture. These kids come from good families and teachers reinforce same humanity and morality so it becomes part of their character.

Academics are rigorous, sports competitive, extracurriculars plenty and culture is inclusive. You can pick up statistics and see that they are the best performing high school in DFW area but only by sending our children there, we learned of all the good things that aren't tangible. I'm very happy with our decision to pick this school. I went on college tours with my daughters and every Texas college adcoms knew about school's high standards. I thought okay we are in Texas but surprisingly out of state elite colleges also knew that we are coming from an academic powerhouse. That was a very nice surprise.

This school is overcrowded and the counsellors are cold-hearted and rude. My child informed me one of her classes has over 60 students packed into one room, with some students having to sit on the floor. Seems like a fire/safety hazard to me. Instructors told students to try to switch to another class, but when requests were submitted to counsellors, they are very short and rude with the students. If people do not enjoy working with students, perhaps they should find another career.

Great teachers, classes that prepare you for college, and overall feeling of inclusion - which is special in such a large campus. Sports programs are great with competitive teams.

Great school, very competitive and wonderful teaching. Only one thing that I have to ask/say as a parent- Why did they have to install so many Cell antennas to get funds for the programs at this school? CEll Antennas/Towers on School Properties are not Okay.

We moved here from Frisco school district and were pleasantly surprised by the environment , academics and athletics. This is without a doubt one of the best high school in Texas. School was larger than Frisco a High Schools but class sizes were same and teachers were great. You get PISD's proven system and positive peer pressure. It was surprising to see how much our kids improved.

As an Alum of this wonderful educational institution, I am ecstatic to say I am proud to be a graduate of such an amazing school. My experience was a little bumpy coming from DISD, a district with such low standards, to PISD, a district that is really as a school district should be. The school was my saving grace, as it provide myself and my graduating class the academic foundation on which to continuously build and grow. The school culture is as all of the great reviews mention-diverse and positively competitive. The competitive atmosphere was the propelling force all to do well, and, of course, the instructors played a key role in the success of the students during my time within the school. I felt fulfilled and prepared before, during and after my matriculation. I look forward with bright-eyes and an equally bright mind to a successful academic and professional future.

There is a reason this school tops ranking charts. Our hats are off to PISD, school management, teachers, support staff and PTA. Best place to go to high school in DFW. In my opinion there strongest asset is a big, diverse, intellectual student body, kids learn as much from their peers as they do from their teachers and coaches. We are so glad that we didn't fall for cheaper and newer housing galore of neighboring towns and made the sacrifice to buy an older and smaller house in West Plano. We would make the same decision again if we have to. We salute PISD for providing top notch education to our children. No other school district in the area is able to meet their standards. When my child went to college tours and interviews, people already knew that PISD has great standards and their students are college ready. Bigger schools and large student body prepares kids to adjust well in college atmosphere and options to pick courses that no smaller school can offer is another big advantage. All in all, we give PWSH 5+ stars.

As a student at Plano West, I have been afforded opportunities that are hard to find outside of top-tier privates. Because of its large size, PWSH can offer programs, activities, and a huge amount of clubs just not found elsewhere. It's easy to find a way to be involved after school with the large amount of student groups. There's a very strong AP program, extensive and well-kept facilities, and the school gets strong test scores, but that's really not what makes it special. I think its most valuable asset is the school's culture - the students expect each other to achieve, and there's a positive pressure to do well at whatever your interested in (music, academics, art, athletics, etc.). That's why Plano West (and Plano ISD as a whole) keep on dominating competitions of all sorts, and why the school is able to send kids to top colleges.

Posted: January 30, 2013

Plano ISD and PWSH in particular has become a large bureaucratic organization that cares more about itself than the students they are supposed to serve. VERY easy for kids to get lost in the crowd. Try to talk to them - you will just get stonewalled. Very cold and indifferent towards parents.

We have had a very humiliating and a harrowing experience by two dept. heads at the Plano West. My daughter who is a AP and Honor student for all her classes this year was not given help and when she asked for help she was refused and after i wen in to see her teacher, I was humiliated and yelled at by her dept. heads and they said it was my daughter's fault. I then went to see the principal and he said he could take care of it and also help my daughter. I have not heard from him yet. I just feel that how will they teach our children if their own attitude is negative and do not know how to handle situations?
