Like most parents, we were concerned about the move to middle school. However, this school has been a great move for our son. He thrived, grew academically, and became much more independent through the school year. It was an adjustment, but a healthy growing year. We don't expect perfection from schools, but Cain has teachers who pour themselves into the students and it makes a difference. The important aspects we learned were to get involved in positive ways, such as sports, music, extra-curricular, to build solid friendships. And support your student to make the jump from highly structured elementary school to build independence in middle school. It's a team effort between the students, teachers, and parents. Cain has staff/teachers that are willing to be part of this team.

This school might be great for some families and students, but they don't see what lurks beneath. Teachers are moving WAY too fast for the students to learn and if you need help, they MIGHT provide it to you. I wouldn't say every student it is failing, but majority is. Now, the main thing the school lacks is equality- the teachers, counselors, and administration lack equality. It doesn't matter if you're passing, being a good kid, or anything along the lines of being mature- they will always pick favorites and make sure that if you're not a favorite you will be given a rough time. This school also focuses on homophobia and racism- (Not saying staff). If your child is or has struggled with bulling don't send them here. This school is also continuously trying to mess up our schedules- for no reason! If someone even sneezes, they give you A/B block days. Overall, this school is messy, un-educating, and not worth your commitment.

The teachers are not very supportive of the students. Children with ADHD struggle because the teachers are not trained on how to teach them. Overall I would not recommend this school.

Face it, if you are a parent in Rockwall and your kids go through the schools they always say Cain Middle School is terrible and their kid did not enjoy going there- but its only for 2 years. Its been going on for a decade like this. This needs to change! Why cant we have a great middle school too?
The elementary school and high school kids seem to enjoy their tenure there at their schools but hate Cain. Why is this? #1 its run down. Cain middle school needs a facelift. The school board needs to appoint funds for upkeep and some much needed revamp of the building. #2 there are teachers who just dont care about assembling the kids into good behavior and off their phones in class. Theyve essentially given up on trying to get kids attention and keep it during class. Lazy and should be replaced. My kids electives are a complete joke and waste of time. #3 there is no retribution for bad behavior. Kids are able to go down the halls and yell profanities at other unsuspecting school kids and shove them into lockers with no penalties. They trash the locker rooms doing Tik Tok challenges, and get into groups and cause trouble. Parents need to be alerted when their kid is acting up in school and deal with their kids. Parents need to constantly check in on their kids about behavior. There are many kids getting away with a lot that the parents dont know about. Schools cant do it all. Parents need to parent. However this school is really bad at this point.
At this age kids can be a bit crazy as they find their way to adulthood and testosterone, and the school needs leadership to address these issues. My kid hates going to this school. He says all the kids act like cussing 10 year olds. Loud, immature and attention seeking. Im very worried for my next kid coming through. A very good leader is needed to turn this school around. Because there is no reason it needs to be the place where you have to spend 2 years in hell to get to high school. It seems Rockwall has just let it be as it is. Time for a real change.

Last day of school my son was searched by the Principal when he walked in the boys bathroom. Then he called every student with a backpack to go to the library and searched them. Isnt the last day of school supposed to be fun and not like a prison. The VP talks bad about parents in front of students, they did not enforce mask wearing, when students complained to parents there was retribution. The Principle told my son not to tell his parents he was harassed and searched. My so. Said his pockets were pulled out and emptied. The Principle told him he does not understand what a search is and he could make him do detentions when he starts high school the next year. Disgusting behavior by these people.

Me and my son were treated so horribly at the other middle school that I had to pull him out without much warning the day I walked into Cain to enroll him we were treated so kind and they were very fast in going over his schedule and the 504 coordinator came and talked to us I was so emotional when I walked out of that school because of how nice everyone was and my son was for the first time actually happy about his school.

The other district we came from my son would a lot of times spend hours doing homework and I would have to help him when we came here majority of work is done in class !

Some teachers at other school where he came from just passed him would curve grades by as much as 15 points here in math they knew he was behind but it did not take long for him to catch up and he was making As in math for real!

There is a huge lack of professional leadership in this school. My daughter has experienced bullying. She has been belittled by the school principal and his team with no facts. We are new to this area and have felt no support from anyone at the school but one counselor. It has been the worse situation for a young girl to go through. Their stories and lies change daily. They have handle the investigations in a way that has caused my daughter more drama. We have now brought the situation to the school district and our hoping for some results

My kid is new to this school this year. So many things are off. They never give my child a break, they only dress code overweight people, and they're terrible about helping kids make friends. they don't deal with anything properly. also during events like dances or plays, the school does a terrible job on their part. my child came home 30 minutes after the dance started, and we went to a play event. the kids did amazing, they tried so hard, but the schools part in it was absoloutley terrible. You couldn't hear them at all. and there was another event going on in the background. My child's teacher said that if she left there would be a bad grade, it made her so nervous that we had to stay there for another hour not being able to hear the stage, just people talking. we in fact heard everyone BUT the play. My child dreads going to this school and hates it. The staff is terrible at helping kids when they aren't feeling good. Teachers are good, overall school is bad and needs to be improved for my child's success. And my other child is going there next year.

My son was the new kid at this school and had an amazing year. My son has special needs and is different than most kids but has done so well. The teachers here have taken him under their wing and have praised my son when I met with them. Teachers are willing to meet, email, call parents in my experience last year. My son went from C's and D's to A's and B's in his first year at Cain middle school. To me, that speaks volumes. If kids did not understand a concept and a majority failed a test, the teacher would reteach the lesson. I am so happy with our experience at Cain!

Kids at Cain get a reasonable amount of homework. Our last school had hours of homework each day!
Posted: July 19, 2018
The teachers here are engaged and show care and concern in regards to how well kids perform. When I got a call from my sons math teacher after hours so she could go over a math problem with him, I knew we were in a good school.
Posted: July 19, 2018
I think the school is effective, but the school can only do so much. Parents need to step up and teach their kids respect, compassion and integrity.
Posted: July 19, 2018
I feel the leadership in this school is great. I have seen the principal walking the grounds and picking up trash left behind by students. I have seen him welcoming students and is engaged and does not sit in his office all day like some principals.
Posted: July 19, 2018
My son who has special needs has excelled at Cain! Learning comprehension is a struggle for my son and the teachers have gone the extra mile to make sure my son understood what was being asked.
Posted: July 19, 2018
My son is different due to his special needs. I wouldn't call what my son experienced bullying, but when I brought the issues we were having to admin and a teacher, it was handled ASAP.

Ive had 1 kid go through Cain and 1 kid at Cain now and they both love it. They both got very involved in the theater program (great program), made lots of friends, and seem to learn a lot there. I have never had a problem with a teacher and have found the staff accommodating and friendly. Im surprised reading some of the negative reviews on here, as that has been the opposite of our experience at Cain. Im really happy with the experience my kids have had at Cain, and feel it prepares them well for high school and beyond.

Cain is like a lot of middle schools; the biggest problem you are going to find stems from the kids' behavior. The teachers are generally approachable and engaged in classes. The administration seems to be a bit of a revolving door and you can see that as a contributing factor to the bullying/culture issues in the school. There has not been strong leadership, at least not effectively strong leadership, in the two years we have been with Cain. Kids are rough at this age, but it does not need to be as bad as it is at Cain. Last year for sure the bullying problem/exclusionary actions of certain students went unchecked. It seems to be an issue with parents being unwilling to accept that their kid might be a problem (EVER, no matter what). The first response is always that it was someone else's fault. This has created kids that, even when they are punished at school, face no consequences at home. This undermines any attempt by the school to discipline kids. The new administration seems to be taking a harder line than in the past this year. The problem is, the kids get to Cain already with this issue because the elementary schools are also not able to effectively hold kids accountable. It is going to take a lot of time and work from the district level (starting at the elementary schools) to get this issue solved. You see the problem building in elementary, growing in middle, and exploding at the high school. What needs to happen is that the parents need to recognize the disservice they are doing their kids and back the school up instead of undermining it. Good luck with that! Entitled parents raise entitled kids!

I am astonished by some of the venomous comments about this school, as it hasn't been our experience at all. We have a quiet, non-sports son, and he has thrived at Maurine Cain. Yes, he is a straight A student, but he works for it - and I have never had a teacher accept a late assignment for full marks, believe me, I've tried when he genuinely had done the work, but simply forgot to hand it in on-time. It's true of any school that there are great teachers and not-so-great teachers, but overall, Maurine Cain is truly focused on the students' learning and, for those who want to learn from there teachers, there is ample opportunity to do so. The Admin on the front desk can be a bit grumpy at times, but apart from that, great school, great teachers, friendly students, very accepting of all kids whether sporty or academic, great facilities, and a great location.

This school is a joke. If you're like me and have a child that does not naturally excel in school and want your child to actually learn something, then take your child somewhere else. Teachers will change grades to ensure they pass so the school gets their money from the government. My child miraculously received a 100 on an assignment when he wasn't even there. This school is setting our children up to be failures as adults! I don't want them to give me child grades, I want them to teach them and I believe my child needs to know, if you don't do the work you will not succeed in life!
My son has actually told me his history test "re-do" consists of looking up the answers on his phone. Also, how can you turn in assignments 3 weeks late and still get a 100?! I write this after going on "Skyward" this morning and seeing all of my son's grades posted in his English class (the last day of the grading period) and he had a 64, only to return to the sight this afternoon to find out somehow that grade is now 75 and the test that he made a 60 on he now, somehow, made a 100! Even if he re-did the test, there is no way it should be a 100. This happens every report card.
When our children grow up, there will never be a job they'll be able to keep by just showing.
It is impossible to get my child to care about his grades when he knows he is going to pass no matter what he does or does not do!
If you are not concerned if your child actually learns anything and only that he/she passes to the next grade, then this school is for you!

Cain is a beautiful school architecturally. Most of the teachers we've had in the almost 3 years my children have been in attendance have been great educators. You will always run in to those lazy, just getting a paycheck educators, but they have done a pretty good job of keeping those to a minimum. The principals, counselors and office staff are top notch! However, a large majority of the student body are HORRIBLY cruel. I don't know if it's in the water here in Rockwall or if there is a deficiency in parental guidance. What is wrong with Cain is the students. They are down right mean and hateful!! If you have a sensitive child, please choose another public school or go private. Save your child the mental and emotional anguish they will suffer in this environment. Please pray for the students at Cain.

I could not be more disappointed in this school then I have been lately. No communications with teachers. Detentions are issued out like milk at a dairy factory. Principles are worse. Counselors do not return phone calls....EVER and no one fixes the problem of bullying. And heaven forbid your child stand up for themselves. They get a worse punishment than the bullies. I am known as 'one of those parents' because I believe that a child should be able to go to school and not have to watch their backs or feel like they have to have a friends back walking down the hall. This is an upper class education we are supposed to be getting but instead, my hopes have been dwindled by every misstep that this administration is making. There is no excuse for the childish behaviors of some of the teachers. Homeschooling is looking very good at the moment.

Horrible, the punishments go towards the victim. The teachers are bad and if you attempt to report it gets worse. Notice all good ratings are before the summer of 2010.

This school is one of the worst schools I have had to deal with. My child has been bullied not only by students but by some of the teachers. If you report it, it only seems to make matters worse for the child. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common thread in Rockwall. There is a big emphasis on status.
