This is the worst school I have ever worked at. The administration is ridiculously incompetent. The school counselor Larry Owens proselytizes to students and sits on his phone all day, but he'll never be reprimanded or fired because his daughter married the principal's husband's brother and is therefore the great-uncle of the principal's children who attend the district. Nepotism? Yes. Paraprofessionals are rude and incapable. Students are lazy and disruptive behavior is ignored and even encouraged at times. DO NOT TAKE A JOB HERE! The district has no regard for the establishment clause/separation of church and state and has committed serious violations of the ADA. If you value your sanity and the laws of the land, apply to Decatur or Alvord instead. It's at times hard to fathom what makes the staff and students act so insane at Boyd. It's probably something in the water.

When we were considering moving to the area, the school ratings were an area of initial concern. However, what we learned by visiting the school district in 2017 is that there had been a relatively dramatic level of change in staffing in between the data we could see here, and our visit and all of it was overwhelmingly positive.
Staff knows the students, on a very solid level. They know the parents. They are all committed professionals, who go above and beyond to bring activities and expanded learning opportunities to the students, despite being in a smaller community.

My child has started this new school year and is flourishing in the new atmosphere. I was initially uneasy about the transition from elementary to intermediate, but have been pleasantly surprised. The teachers are very caring and promote academic excellence. Two thumbs up from this mama!!
