My child is in Kindergarten at Universal Academy, and I am extremely disappointed in the communication between the school and parents. Information is unclear, instructions are not explained, and you constantly have to call or email just to get basic answers. It feels like they expect parents to automatically know everything without ever providing proper guidance.
Another major concern is how inconvenient they make parentteacher communication. They do not offer evening conferences at all. If you want to talk about your childs development, concerns in the classroom, or grades, you have to take off work and meet only during the teachers free period. There is absolutely no accommodation for working parents.
The dress code and spirit week expectations are also overly strict and inconsistently communicated. On out-of-uniform days, there is so little clarity that you never know what is actually acceptable. They nitpick outfits to the extreme. For example, on Candy Land Day, I sent my child in a red dress with a candy cane on itcompletely on themeand the front desk staff saw nothing wrong. Yet the principal said it was inappropriate because she expected a striped shirt instead of a dress. I had to bring a whole new outfit even though the colors and theme were correct. The rigidity is unnecessary and unreasonable, especially for young children.
I attended private schools my whole life, and I have never seen a school so strict yet so unclear at the same time. The lack of communication, inconsistency, and unwillingness to support parents makes it very difficult to feel confident or comfortable with this school.

I am very disappointed with this school. I enrolled my child here because many people recommended it, but unfortunately, my experience has been quite the opposite. Most of the Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers have serious communication issues. As a parent, I expect my child to learn correct pronunciation, accent, and communication skills at school, but instead, I see the opposite happening.
My child previously attended daycare where communication was clear and correct. However, after joining this school, I have noticed changes in the way they speak, which is very concerning. For parents, communication is the foundation of learning at this early stage, and teachers play the most important role in shaping this.
I sincerely request the school management to review and address the communication skills of teachers. For you, they may be employees, but for us, they are the very first guides in our childrens education. Please take this matter seriously for the betterment of the kids.

I attended this school for 5 years and my experience was disappointing. It seemed like the school focused more on money and appearance than on students well being. There were many fundraisers and activities that required students to contribute money which felt like a major priority. The rules were very strict and staff often paid more attention to what shoes or jackets students wore than how they were feeling. Even if a student was upset the focus was usually on dress code rather than emotions. Before transferring here I had good grades but after transferring my grades dropped because the work was challenging and I did not feel there was enough support for students who needed help. I also experienced discrimination and heard hurtful language which I cant say here but I dont believe these issues were handled appropriately by the school. Sports options were limited, including boys basketball, volleyball, and indoor track, and participation required significant fees of over $200 for track. Overall, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this school. It felt like a place more focused on money and strict rules than on supporting students academically and emotionally. I am glad to be transferring and hope my new school will be a better fit.

This school has become overly focused on money, raising serious concerns about its priorities. Fundraising is constant, yet theres little transparency about where the money actually goescharging $200 to run laps on a field or $80 to play indoor football is excessive and unjustified. Instead of rewarding effort, skill, or dedication, the system seems to favor those who have been there longer or who contribute more financially. Even teachers have pointed out these issues. Its disheartening to see a place of learning operate this way. If youre considering attending, Id recommend looking elsewhereyour time and money are better spent in a school that values students over profits.

I sent my 2 kids to this school, and GOD it was a nightmare, first of all my middle child had been getting bad grades and not because she didnt study,I have helped her study and somehow she managed to barely pass the 3rd grade,I think the teachers are lacking of education 2nd of all my kids got trouble one time FOR DOING NOTHING,she never did anything to get in trouble? And I get a phone call saying shes in trouble? Also,I dont want to be mean but the quality IS JUST HORRIBLE just horrible, almost everything here is low quality,I dont understand WHY people send theyre child to school,I hated this school so much and transferred them to a different school, guess what? Theyre doing better,I think UA needs to get better teachers because the teachers are disengaging and have lack of education.

I would like everyone to take notice to this review because it is factual and alarming to say the least. My child has been a student at UA since PK..This year, my child has not had a solid teacher since the first week of school. Her and her classmates have only had a substitute, and no guidance with their education. This has lead to over half of her class being subject to mandatory tutoring twice a week within the school. I have filed complaints online, in person, even requested records that were never addressed or sent to me. My child has stated that answers have been given to her by subs without any teachings of the material for "free" 100s. There are SOME teachers within this establishment who are worthwhile, but the administration and majority of the educators are in NO WAY passionate about your child or their future. This may very well be the last year that we are at UA, but I'm making it my mission for ALL of North Texas, as well as any parent reading this today to RUN, DO NOT enroll your child at this establishment. Their grades are inflated, and your child WILL BE behind. Stand for your children!

I worked here a couple of years back and really wish I could reach out to all of my students parents I left and tell them to leave immediately. The treatment of staff should be illegal at this school. They do not care about the staff or students but more so about their own appearance. I know for a fact they weed out any poor reviews given online so I am sure this will be deleted at some point. They have let so many great teachers go for speaking up whom have all gone on to do great things at other great districts. I am writing this to warn you please do not send your student to this school they will end up so far behind despite their claims to be an elite school.

Management is rude to parents. They yell at the parents when came with an issue. they know the issue was caused by their mistake but instead of being sorry and agreeing for the mistake, they yell at the parents for bringing it up.

The teacher is very unorganized . 14 assignments are given a week and are posted on Monday night/ Tuesday night for a kindergarten class . Repeated complaints and follow ups but didnt set a meeting . On one occasion they didnt show up for a meeting . Despite filling out form for nut allergies , they handed out an almond chocolate to my kid. Very careless, dont care for kids. One kid de-enrolled in a month from the class because of bad behavior from the teacher .

School management is trying to cut corners when it comes to spending (no technology devices were given even when request form is filled several times)
No activities for kids, PE is not developing any skills for the kids.
No strategy or focus on kids personality.
Kids go to school with no ambition.

This school is alright, but my experience with one of the teachers really brang it down. This one teacher doesnt seem to care about the students, and doesnt even teach, I dont understand. I dont know why he wasnt fired before. The students are chaotic, and overall it isnt the best learning environment. I wouldnt highly suggest this school.

I am happy with the progress of my children since they joined Universal Academy. Things are done quite differently here and may be that's the reason they have developed so much love to study.UA has a pro-active administration and very sound teachers. I'm getting value for money spent here.

Graduation was a monumental occasion at the Universal Academy this year. Everyone faced the challenges of homeschooling, returning to school, masks, no masks, social distancing, and finally the victory of health and academic success. Thank you Universal Academy.

My daughter made the honor roll for the first time in her academic career. We are so proud of her and more importantly, She is proud of herself. Enrolling her in the Universal Academy was the best thing we could ever have done.
Posted: November 12, 2020
I'm glad to have found them. My spouse and I are both completely deaf. Our daughter is hearing-impaired. You can imagine the challenges we face in general but thankfully our daughters education is not one of them. We are both so very grateful to Universal for their assurance that each and every student will be given the environment necessary to ensure their success.
Posted: November 12, 2020
They always follow up with my daughters homework to ensure she understands it very well.
Posted: November 12, 2020
I've come across a couple of them and they do their job diligently.
Posted: November 12, 2020
My daughter's attitude has improved tremendously since joining them.
Posted: November 12, 2020
They have great leaders here. They never shy away from taking responsibilities.
Posted: November 12, 2020
They take their time to attend to students with learning difference just like my daughter.
Posted: November 12, 2020
I've never heard of bullying cases from this school.
Posted: November 10, 2020
Awesome! My daughter has always been a bit, how shall I say this? I guess wild suffices. She resisted the structure and routine of UA when we first placed her here. However they exercise discipline and regulations in just the right way, not like the army but stern enough to make it clear they are not messing around. The transformation in my daughter was slow at first but she is becoming the young lady I know she is capable of being.
Posted: November 10, 2020
Their homework approach is impressive. They take the time to mark the homework and correct all mistakes. For those who fail, they take the time to teach them again.
Posted: November 10, 2020
When you have passion for your job you will definitely be good at it. The teachers here love their jobs and take it seriously.
Posted: November 10, 2020
They do not just focus on the education syllables but they are more interested in building people with character , values and morals.
Posted: November 10, 2020
I've never felt disappointment in the way they go about their business. They do not just talk, they practice what they preach.
Posted: November 10, 2020
They personally help students who lag behind due to learning differences.
Posted: November 10, 2020
My Daughter have never been bullied but i believe they handle bullying very well.
Posted: November 8, 2020
so far, I've been impressed. I have had the pleasure of being in the presence of the superintendent and founder, Diane Harris on more than one occasion. The woman is remarkable. I am convinced that it is her dedication and her staffs devotion to her that make this school the outstanding educational institution it is.
Posted: November 8, 2020
I love their homework approach. They give these kids homework regularly and follow up to ascertain their level of understanding.
Posted: November 8, 2020
The teachers here are very very effective. They do not just do their job for the pay but for their love for imparting knowledge and raising future leaders.
Posted: November 8, 2020
Kids are more influenced by what they see and hear. My kids have shown more respect to each other and have been more tolerant towards each other. As for integrity and compassion they've always had.
Posted: November 8, 2020
They have an understanding that these kids today will eventually be leaders tomorrow and they show leadership by example. The few teachers i met here have strong leadership qualities.
Posted: November 8, 2020
A Good school knows that students understand at different rates. They have different approach for those with learning differences.
Posted: November 8, 2020
I've heard nothing yet on bullying so I cannot say.
Posted: November 4, 2020
My experience has been great and their Tuition-free works for us! But seriously if we were told at the end of the school year that a tuition was going to be implemented, we would probably somehow scrape it together just keep our children enrolled here. We are that impressed with the educations they are receiving. Dont get any ideas though UA!
Posted: November 4, 2020
They regularly give my kids home work and then follow them up. Even if my kids do fail the homework sometimes but they ensure corrections are made and that they understand it.
Posted: November 4, 2020
The teachers here are proactive and effective . They take their job seriously.
Posted: November 4, 2020
They care about values. I noticed my kids have been more respectful towards people and have been more honest in everything they do.
Posted: November 4, 2020
I've been to the school several times and I have been impressed with the leadership qualities the staffs here posses and i can see the traits in my kids.
Posted: November 4, 2020
I can't really tell but the have the best practices.
Posted: November 4, 2020
I believe they take bullying seriously deal with it effectively. I haven't really heard of any bullying case yet.
Posted: October 27, 2020
Overall I would rate our experience a 10/10. I have been very impressed with Universal Academy. The communication level between myself and the schools staff is very high which I appreciate as a parent.
Posted: October 27, 2020
My son is supported and nurtured to grow not only intellectually but in ways that will set him up for success in his adult life. Integrity, compassion, and respect are all characteristics that have been strengthened in my son since attending Universal Academy.
Posted: October 27, 2020
My child has ADHD which often times has an affect on his testing abilities. The teachers and staff have always been accommodating.
Posted: October 27, 2020
We have never encountered bullying at this school. But I am confident in the staff and the administration to handle any instances of it promptly and effectively should it ever occur.
Posted: October 27, 2020
I feel that my son is getting a good, quality educational experience in an environment that enables him to learn. I like the student to teacher ratio and I particularly appreciate the level of parental involvment. I never have to guess how things are going and all of her teachers at each grade level have been available when a conference is needed. I feel like the entire staff cares about the well being of my child. I feel he is not just a student, that they know him as a unique individual.
Posted: October 26, 2020
I'm so thankful for Universal Academy and how my child has thrived there. He was at a wonderful, well-respected private school but it wasn't the right fit for him personally. He stated that he is way more comfortable at Universal Academy. There are many opportunities to get involved and volunteer which is important for me as a parent. I know most of the staff, and they know who I am. It's a really wonderful community and our family is very happy with our choice to transfer here.
Posted: October 26, 2020
Great overall community to learn not only academics but they also support character development here. My son has learned things that he will carry with him for the rest of his life.
Posted: October 26, 2020
I love all the staff here including the teachers, Principal, and administration staff.
Posted: October 26, 2020
Never had any situations were bullying has been a problem. Most children at this school are friendly and the teachers have rules in place to help prevent bullying and have consequences in place for if it were to occur. My son feels safe overall which is the most important to me.
Posted: October 22, 2020
Teachers are awesome and kids are hardworking and bright. The school spirit is off the charts and the principal is wonderful overall.
Posted: October 22, 2020
Perfect amount of homework. My child has enough homework to do but it's not too much that maintaining afterschool activities has ever been an issue.
Posted: October 22, 2020
The teachers at this school care about the students. They have helped my son on numerous occasions.

I can see a major difference in my sons confidence since attending Universal Academy. I believe integrity, compassion, and respect are all characteristics being taught and implemented everyday.

Regret that I subjected my son to that environment, for 2 and half years! Since moving him he has shown tremendous growth, he is active in school activities. Since leaving I am able to volunteer at his school, able to do surprise pop in during the day as well as being able to go and eat lunch with him. As a parent I always thought the parent involvement is important, it is as though Universal frowns on it, you are not able to pop in, volunteer during the school day, and if you want to have lunch with your child you have to do it off campus. Also they have a high turnover rate of teachers, the communication is very poor, if your child has a disability there is very little to no help for you.

The school has strict rules because when I see the kids I feel like they are in army camp. Also, Not being able to have lunch with parents. As much as I like the school rate, I do not like the lack of diversity omg! Specially, on those days that parents attending such as Assembly/Honor students, the kids behave better than the parents! Pushing around trying to take pictures, not listening when they say take a seat again and again. The school should come up with a better plan to share pictures. When I go on those days and experience this feeling that I am India, I can only imagine what my daughter thinks? 24 students per teacher is a bit much!
"Age Districts must maintain an average ratio of 1:20. No more than 22 students may be enrolled in a K-4 classroom". That is the Texas requirements. I would not recommend the school unless you have the worst school district!
Now those people who are reviewing as a parent which I am assuming who works for the school come and say "oh We love the school blah blah" but that is not TRUE!!!
Not that many parents review only good the same day as you posted on July 14th to beat one parent bad review based on their experience.
So go a head, I am waiting for your best school review!

I love this school. My daughter finished 4th grade and has been there for 6 years. They have restrict rules to make every students to be polite, respectful, integrity and bullying is never tolerated. From academic perspective, they make students ready for above average compared with regular public school at the same grade. I also love uniforms because of so many advantages. I highly recommend this school to any elementary students per my experience. I have not experienced any grades beyond elementary yet

The "pitch" from UA is all marketing smoke and mirrors. We know several families that have been very disappointed in the lack of elective options including fine arts and athletics, as well as the under-qualified teachers. We did not realize how good we had it with our local public school. We are very excited about returning to our home school and joining their award-winning gifted and talented program. Do not be deceived by Universal Academy's promises.

My son and daughter attend this school. My son requires speech therapy and all I can say is that there is such a dramatic improvement in my son's speech capabilities, grammar and comprehension. He is in Kindergarten and he reads 3rd grade level chapter books. My daughter is entering second grade and I have little doubt about her ability to succeed with this school. Teachers encourage parent participation and the environment here is very diverse and inclusive.

My experience was great with this school, my son enjoyed every single day in the school as the studying was fun and effective at the same time. There are lot of activities to do in this school, like school trips, fun activities in class, extracurricular activities. It helps the child grow in all areas and not restricted to just the study. I thank the school administration for everything.

As with anything, I've noticed people are so quick to negativity. My overall experience has been great compared to what I have dealt with with ISDs. The smaller classroom sizes are more beneficial and effective. Universal Academy is a choice not a requirement. Many people have chosen this school because it is the best option for their students.

Absolutely pathetic management and administration. Extremely poor communication from the school on every matter. Specific Class teacher very reluctant to meet parents to discuss academic progress. Inferior education quality. School tours are just advertisement stunts and gimmicks for raising money, most of what they say in tours are not true or outside the schools capability of execution. Won't recommend anybody.

Completely unimpressed with the school. I echo the comments of other parents - the school administration is apathetic towards the well being of the children; the teachers are woefully inexperienced; and children are just numbers to them. My child had an awful experience - he was dinged for every behavior possible. Daily he'd come home proclaiming he was a "bad boy" because his teacher referred to him as one. I have never been to a more unorganized and unwelcoming school in my life. Children are not nurtured or encouraged to grow, they are discouraged from being curious and actual learning. Do not send your child to this school, you will regret it.

The previous review was right on the money. Anyone who is considering sending their kids to this school should think twice. All they care about is making money. They don't care about the children. Universal Academy's leadership, or lack thereof, is untrustworthy and completely disinterested in truly educating the children. From one parent to another, avoid Universal Academy at all costs.

Terrible experience. No value for parents and kids. Inexperienced teachers, unwelcoming administration and all they care for is the STAARS testing results. Students are just "Name Tags" to the administration and they absolutely do not care and work based on Students need and they Do Not have the facility to help social set up of kids. Disappointed Parent!

Ms. Jobe is an exceptional leader. Her dedication and focus has helped Universal Academy continue to flourish. Congrats UA. Continue to soar.

The teachers at UA go through a very intense training over the summer. Teachers are required to pass certain milestones, developed by administration. If teachers are living up to the task expected by UA, they are put on a development plan and terminated, if they can't meet the required standards set for their professional development.

This school is not inviting , interiors are plain, no wall colors , no bulletin boards, no signs about where the class rooms are. The front staff do not greet with a smile, they are behind a huge counter that lets them hide their faces. L shaped counter, don't know whom to approach, they act like you don't exist . The procedures and policies for the school are not clear or they are not made clear to parents. No student handbook/ online version- "coming soon" FOREVER!!. School supplies - they list out binders and planners which they don't even use.

Teachers in this shool appear to be relatively inexperienced and keep on changing year-over year. Worse, they changed the classes after a few weeks last year and this year the teachers are clearly underprepared for the start of the year. The classrooms are very bare and unwelcoming for the kids.

Diversity of student population is severely skewed in favor of south asian students. It is a dis-service to the students to be groomed in a narrowly focused academic stream.

UA continues its downward journey......with Great Hearts coming up closer to Jefferson Park area, UA is bound to lose students in the coming years if UA does not mend its ways. I wondering if we made a bad choice in not pulling out kid for this academic year...
"Meet the teacher" event today was a joke! run by bunch of buffoons.......not sure why they have to waste everybodys time to go meet a bunch of non-interested teachers. It was only 30 minutes and we could barely shake the hands of the teachers and were not allowed to ask any questions (even general questions that were not specific to child's performance). All we could hear was "Send an email to the teacher to set-up a different time for meeting during the ACEs session"....we could also have met the teachers then, why today?
The class set-up and structure was very poor compared to past years....All my kid's teachers were new and were clearly not interested in being there....ACEs is another joke- pay $25, but the kid would not be allowed any of the choices he/she prefers.

I have been a UA student for the past 5 years and i have come to feel that all of the teachers and students there have become like family. The teachers are very interactive and there is absolutely no bullying in this school,as anyone who is disrespectful or is a bully, they get a suspension or expelled.I only have 1 regret of this school, which has brought me to give it 4 stars.1) in my previous year here at UA we had kept on switching teachers and our schedules and every thing was crazy,we had 1 not so good teacher in the grade, who only focused on certain students who needed help, but totally forgot about the advanced ones, therefore because of her lack of interactive perspectives,my mental math has gone down the drain. But now i am soaring across the stars with kumon. But overall this school has done me proud, and i do agree, that during the years of 2005 or 2006 the school was a bit unprepared, but i do not suggest you go to UA for middle school, because the teachers there are worse in middle school.I suggest you should only attend for elementary.Thank you for understanding my service. It is greatly appreciated.

i feel that MOST of the teachers at this school are effective,as some are not. Some good examples are ,my science teacher, who always was pretty strict but had the best reasons for it,her name was Ms. Walker and she saw all the amazing things inside all of the students and believed that anyone can achieve anything if they just believed and tried their best. She asked me one day and i told her my dream job was to be a doctor.Ever since then, she has boosted my self confidence to as high as she could get it and she started showing me youtube videos and explaining everything that it takes to know to actually achieve my dream. She is truly the BEST science teacher that has ever lived,if you get her as your teacher for 5 th grade or any grade, remember that year will be the best one of you whole life.

i truly dont know what i feel about the homework in this school because some teachers persist on giving a lot of homework in order to boost the speed of the child's nourishing brain. Some teachers persist on teaching more in class and giving enough homework so the chils can practice or have some free time.

the teachers are very kind and very appreciative with very smart talents and they help everyone with a good perspective.

My happy go lucky straight A daughter is now very unhappy & is not herself at all. She is getting picked on by the teacher's to the point a teacher made fun of her socks, to the whole classroom until she cried & then the teacher called her a cry baby. My daughter then asked to go to the nurse, the teacher laughed & said, "No". The next class she asked the teacher to go to the nurse, the next teacher asked why didn't she ask the previous teacher? My daughter told her & the teacher said, "then No, you have put me in a bad situation." I met with the teachers and now my daughter is getting picked on even more (by the teacher's). She will not be attending UA next year.

If you think academic progress is all you need for your kid to develop, then this school would be the best choice. The GT program is not well designed. The ACE's program is just for minting money.Few parents paid for both semesters, few parents for one and few parents declined to pay.The parent's of GT students are annoyed as they paid for ACE's and have 2 GT classes and 1 ACE's(Ofcourse, not of their choice)on alternate Fridays and still paid $25,GT being funded. The rating of this school is good academically basically because there are many indians. Many indians who stay in irving apartments prefer this school due to not so good public isd and the availability of school bus.The amount of enrollment they are taking every year is going to push the school down the drain. If you are the one who prefer quality vs quantity then pull your kid out after 2nd grade.

Universal Academy has designed the ACE's program to help balance the students academic schedule with their extracurricular activities. The administrations makes every effort to implement the students first choice with the ACE s program, but sometimes that is not always possible. The administration has an open door policy and it's important for the parents to work with the administration in finding the right balance for their students academic achievement at Universal Academy.

My kid love the school.I am so happy with the changes the new principal is making.I am sure the school will reach new heights in near future. The bus service has improved and now there are many new bus routes. With a teacher for a subject the quality of education has improved drastically. The homework has been reduced compared to last year.GT result have been declared and the qualified students have received a letter. The teachers are motivated and Ms Moshier is a true leader. For those who complain,I am pretty sure you will not be happy with any other school if you are not happy with this one.Good job Ms. Moshier.

I agree it sounds good ACES for UA students But imagine this your pay 25$ per semister and sign your kids as per the class they want and then the school switches them around on a weekly rotation . In short u pay for per month and then do not get what you sign up for ! That's the irony. Not to be disrespectful to anyone but it's a shame and a farce .

My child gave the G/T test in June and we are still waiting for the results. Now they have different teachers to teach a subject and a group of 4 classes follow the same pattern.School says that the students of all these 4 classes are at same level.I am shocked since my child is much advanced than the kids in other 3 classes.I am not under estimating any kid and I do believe each kid has his own pace to learn but then why do they claim they have advanced classes for bright kids.My child was in a advance class last year too.If they do not depend on the test results for grouping kids why do they take test at the first place?I loved the school last year but cannot say the same this year.If the same continues I might pull my kid out before the end of the year.
Posted: October 16, 2014
Teachers and students move from one class to another. No organized pattern for the students in the class. It's a mess particularly with the change in school's principal. The school lacks proper communication with parents.School is downgrading for sure.

COMING FROM A TEACHER: I would NEVER send my child here. Unsatisfactory "gym" and "cafeteria," there is no kitchen you must send your child with lunch or have it delivered. Staff members loose children or put them on the wrong bus, and switch the teachers and students around regularly, one day they may have this teacher and take this class and the next day is totally different. Your first grader could end up in a class with fifth graders. Emotionally challenging for the students. School is always is a state of disarray and confusion.

The administration hires the majority of its teachers from alternative teaching certification programs, so most of the teachers at UA Coppell have absolutely no classroom experience; and the administration places many expectations upon teachers that cannot realistically be met with the poor training that new teachers receive (teacher turnover rate over the past several years has been about 50%). At teacher training, the teachers were instructed to lie to parents about this being their first year teaching. The school offers a "Gifted and Talented" program called ACES in which P.E. teachers, fine arts teachers are required to teach subjects to children in which they have no certified expertise. Last year, the administration had teaching aides (who are not certified teachers) teaching kindergarteners for as long as four months. Today, the school moved several Coppell teachers to UA Irving (and for elementary children, it is traumatic to suddenly lose a teacher). Teachers were not supposed to tell their students that they are leaving. Also, I see that the "parents" who are posting glowing reviews of UA use a lot of terms that the administrators have used to market the school.

MY son will be in 5th grade fall 2014 and wanted to be on the swim team which is sad because I had to tell him he can not be a part of it since there is no swimming pool at this campus so the pack kids on a bus everyday for swim practice with no assigned seats so my 10 yr soon could be sitting next to a 15 or 16 yr old 9th grader. There is a huge difference between a 10 yr old boy and a 16 yr old boy or girl for that matter. This is not set up age appropriate and these facts were not given to me until I asked. Patents ask the questions because this Academy does not volunteer information.

This UA is in Coppell, not Flower Mound, so don't be confused. We like UA. We moved our two children to UA in the fall of 2013 because they were not being challenged at their CISD elementary school (hardly any homework at all), and their school focused less on the basics (reading, writing and arithmetic) and more on technology. We love technology - we have computers at home on which the kids can practice typing, but when their spelling and writing is terrible (corrections not necessary), there is a problem. Our 5th grade daughter has A LOT of homework every night which is a challenge, but that year is the transition year. Our son in 4th grade has much less homework but is aware that next year will be different and recess. We also chose to move our daughter before talk of middle school since she won't be going there. We researched and verified with our counselor that middle school has problems with drugs, sex and girl drama (cliches, bullying, etc.) so we chose UA. We like the uniforms (removing competitiveness, clothing disagreements and they learn to dress professionally) and no makeup (she's too young) as well as UA's higher expectations and less distractions from learning.

The school is excellent for PRE K amazing Satori learning . Once we hit higher grade, we have had cancellation of PTA meeting , no replies to the email or letters . heard that kids were made to stand in class for 8 hrs due to no chairs ,missed PAID LUNCH , no experiment equipment so kids have to wait to get their turn among other admin issues . Also heard in some classes that if you go complaining the kids get the brunt of it as the kids are now scared to take a note to class as it will get them in trouble . Lot of favoritism been done to help preferred children go to field trips and then a letter goes to parents explaining it was a lottery but the kids who were selected they get a letter saying it was due to their dedication and peer approval . Right a 5 /6 yr old is able to appreciate their peer.Hopefully the school check these reviews and wake up else they will have a massive shock during re enrollment . Its the KIDS and parents who work hard with the kids at school to deliver the results it s joint effort and its not all school or teachers .. its teachers , Parents and kids in this TOGETHER. , the loser in this is the kids if they are removed which is sad .

The worst office staff I have experienced in my life....one of them stands out, if you visit the desk even once....you will know what I mean. They are rude and talk down to you, really wondering if this is healthy for a school trying to build its reputation.

I have heard pros and cons about all the charter and public schools here. Again, its all about the teachers who are responsible for the school rating. Please do not rate bad if you find some not so good teachers in the school. My daughter is in 2nd grade and just loves her teachers and friends at this school. It is very good when you compare public schools here.

I love this school. My kids have benefited immensely from its well structured academic program. This school caters to the individual needs of all students and promotes healthy competition. My kids are brilliant and operate at a higher level of reasoning and analytical thinking, thanks to all the hard work put in by the teachers and the parents. Yes, there is homework, but that is life and there's always going to be "home" work! Better start early to set some good habits in motion!

There is nothing wrong with the school for fifth grade up. These grades are a stage during which children go through some pretty serious changes. Starting around this age children's brains actually prune their neurons, resulting in behaviors that didn't occur before. Parents assume any change in their child that appears negative must be the fault of the school. At the same time that parents are easing up off that their kids, assuming they are responsible enough to do things like reach into a backpack to retrieve completed homework to turn in, the expectations at school are increasing. So you have a perfect storm of reduced parental involvement, increased responsibilities, and dramatic changes in behavior that results in missing assignments, behavior problems, etc. Blaming the teachers and the school, parents withdraw their children at the natural transition after 5th grade. This results in a small middle school which cannot support the electives and special programs that a large one could, so new students are rare after 5th grade ends. Small classes are unappealing to adolescents, and student withdrawals increase through middle school as a result. It's a vicious cycle.

My daughter studied here back in 2011 (till 2nd grade) and it was good then for those grades. I'm looking to have her join back only for 5th grade (due to various reasons). I saw a previous comment about being awful for 5th grade. Can anyone share some light on what i need to look into that may be of concern?
