Personally, I love some aspects of this school, hate some others. As a musical theater kid the theater department has been amazing. There is many opportunities all around with choir and theater. While I cannot say if this is true my band friends love band Aswell. Fantastic fine arts department with wonderful teachers. With the core classes there has been unique opportunities (some better than others) and I haven't met a downright "bad" teacher. One cool extracurricular option is after school clubs.

We pulled our daughter from another KISD to attend Hillwood in 2017, best decision ever. Our son attended his feeder pattern Middle school in 5-6th grade, same horrible experience so we put him in Hillwood, again best decision we ever made. For 2020-2022 we skipped our feeder pattern with our youngest and put her in Parkwood Intermediate so she could feed right into Hillwood.

this school is worse than the anti-vape posters they hang up in the halls

Simply put, the house system here is flawed. It teachers toxicity and rudeness rather than social skills and unity, and doesn't at all help students get together, rather only favor a social class of children above others.

I have to give it to them, they are really good at teaching students with disabilities. My brother has autism, and I was fairly surprised how well he was treated when he went to this school. It might've changed though. Their educators are simply so nice.

Not at all. Most they do is, "oh, just deal with it." Bullying is not much of a huge issue at Hillwood but when it is the school doesn't care.

The school does not at all have an effective approach to homework, although it really depends on the teacher. Some give you piles upon piles of homework that can easily challenge the Himalayas a day, and some give very little.

Teachers at Hillwood Middle School are NOT AT ALL effective, although as stated above it really depends on the teacher. Some can be nice and caring, while some come off as mean and arrogant.

Not at all. The house system implemented at this school teaches toxicity and "house above all" rather than good sportsmanship and solidarity, contrary to the school's claim. The houses also favor a handful of students above all.

One of my daughters is having a seriously tough time in PreAP Math. She goes to tutoring at least 5-7 times a week as they offer before & after school tutoring. HOWEVER, tutoring is only 30 minutes long. There isn't really time for 1 on 1. Also, my girls are telling me they teach via videos....I'm sorry what? And why?
When we lived in GCISD my girls were straight A students. One of them currently has a 56!!!! She works so hard and I'm not seeing any help.

Assistant Principal and Choir disappointed me greatly. If your student is interested in beginner's choir, have them take another class. They will suggest to pay for personal voice lessons afterschool in order to perform and audition for events. Previous referrals, do absolutely nothing even though it is in writing that it's required to be in advanced class. They claim awarding winning, 'clean' sweeps taking choral department", but have proven nothing to this statement. The students are allowed to talk, paint nails, do homework, during beginner's class. One of the students who did pay for personal lessons did not demonstrate confidence and progression, but was allowed to compete. My daughter informed me that they roughly received about two weeks of actual instruction and practice. I wish I knew this alot earlier. The sad part is that it is now too late to recover the passion that was stolen from the awarding winning, 'clean' sweeps taking choral department . Assistant Principal was too busy to meet with me about this.

My children went to this school before I moved my family out of the district. To the one that states no bullying or fighting? It is great you haven't seen this but it happens. It really happens no matter where you go. What is VERY disappointeing regarding this school is when issues arrize and is brought to the admins attention nothing is done about it. Parents are shoo'd away as if we know nothing. A problem arose with an instructor and my daughter and when I went to the principal, they wouldn't let me see him "he was too busy" I had to fill out a form for him to call me back and after doing so, I NEVER recieved a call back. Left messages for him, no responses. Warning to parents: When helping your children choose classes for the following years, there are classes listed as being allowed to transfer and be counted toward the students HS credit. Even after speaking with counseling and being assured that this is correct and go with the student. Come to learn the hard way, THEY DO NOT go with the student. Incompetence is a good word for admin here. Be very careful what your children get into. Keep all your forms stating something will transfer to cover your childs rights.
