Both my kids attended this school in 2023 and 2024, and this school has come a long way. From talking to my kids there was a group of students that came graduated in 2023 that had a lot of issues. DOJ investigations within UT addressed many of the issues and kids attending this school now have a much more positive experience than kids in 2023. My family moves around a lot and my oldest son has attended 6 different school and he really enjoyed his time at West Point Junior High. As a parent, I also had great interactions with the teachers and administration and they have been very helpful with my youngest son’s IEP. My youngest son now goes to the newly opened Horizon Junior High, but he enjoyed his time at this school. Please take note that Horizon Junior high opened in 2025 and is not yet showing on this site, but if you are moving to this area you may very well be going to Horizon instead of West Point. It is also a great school with a fantastic band program and my youngest is enjoying his time at this new school as well.

This is my first year hear and its not very good like math but not because I'm bad at it its just the teachers like in the class I'm in now she just says something and expects us to get it all and when I asked for help she just said look at the videos that are just people doing problems with little to no explanation and the coding classes are a no go for a lot of them like creative coding its just going to a confusing app and being told what to do with really no explanation and the teacher for it is bad she like the math teacher I talked about but gets angry if you get confused and If you need her help she lowers your grade for it and every thing you do in it is a big project and you only have like 2-3 class periods to complete it. The rest of the school is good for me and if you want a fun creative class for 7th or 8th grade go for exploration business in Mrs.Weston's class she is a good teacher. Also there is alot of fights

I gave this school this review because, some of the classes are just sad. there are teachers how are there and some how just don't want to be there. the teachers tend to explain it one way and the rots of that one way. but I don't get it I have a tuter now and they explain it better that the one teaching me. and my IEP is in my a opinion its really bad it feels like the only thing they do is stand in the same room with me I don't get that extra posh i need. the kids yell un needed stuf and the bullying is really bad. I'm lucky i made friends because the people at the school have to faces. I feel my parents aren't getting all the info that they need. and that a kid could swear in class and not get in trouble and same with racism infact i have heard it in the middle of class with no one getting in trouble and sometimes it hurts feelings.

Well... This school is certainly interesting. They have good choice with teachers, most kids, if they pay attention to the class in any degree, have pretty good grades. But that's the problem. The kids here are just so misbehaved that they literally can't pay attention.
In all eight of my classes each semester, there was kids screaming racial and homophobic slurs, moaning, and just running around. the the teacher, utterly defeated, would just continue the lesson.
I don't think these teachers get paid enough for these kids.
And I doubt that their therapy bills are free, either.

And I myself, face horrific bullying.
I have been called at least 3 slurs PER DAY, touched inappropriately, threatened with getting jumped, and, while in the bathroom had the doors be slammed and kicked in an attempt to open the door.
And the cherry on top of that cake was the other kids taking pictures and recording me.

The school typically does try to do *something* about incidents like these but that something is very small.

Overall, I give this school a 2/5 because it has a pretty good learning curriculum and kind teachers, but the behavior of the children completely ruin the experience.
Though, I think this isn't just a problem in the school. It is very possible that the parents are teaching their kids these hateful ways, and, not knowing any better, kids will absorb that information like a sponge and spew it out at school.

My final takeaway from this is....
Parents, teach your kids to be nice,
and School, do more to help the children in need, and GIVE YOUR TEACHERS MENTAL SUPPORT.

The principal and staff do not care about the students they just want to push the students out the door to high school so they no longer have to deal with them. It is really sad when they have to lie about a name of a class to get kids to take it too. Apparently the wood shop class is now called a Pinterest class. Basically the whole district staff needs to be reevaluated due to all of the bullying and racism happening. Overall I would definitely look for another school to be my kids in. Please look for one where the staff actually will do what they say they will do and find one that actually cares about your kids.

The school leadership seems not to care at all that the positive Covid cases are rising in the school. But there are more concerned with PTA participation.

Mr. Johansen (the principal) is amazing! He has a genuine concern and respect for all of his students. I have had many encounters where he knows kids by their names. I haven't met a teacher yet that didn't go the extra mile to help, push, and see students succeed.
