A lot of people come to register here and are greeted with the nastiest front desk that it just ends up turning people off. I was so close to turning away (i can name 2 neighbors that did) because 4/5 encounters with the front office are not good. Recess duties sit around on their cell phones and tell kids to handle fights and scrapes on their own. We’ve been lucky enough to have really amazing teachers I’m so thankful to them. However when a child needs support or to lay down or call their parents, same problem: front desk will just send them back. They are lazy and rude. When THEY make a mistake, they will make you feel like an idiot for not checking their website every day or checking 20 different emails from the district as they do rather than just simply apologizing. For example, telling everyone to show up and then as people arrive suddenly explain really the event is two days later and as parents we should've known and should be checking the website and dozens of emails the district sends daily to actually know what’s going on and not trust the text messages we received. It doesn’t have to be that deep but it’s the way they treat people so inferior when really they should be the ones that are embarrassed. They have an no respect for people who work and could care less if they give you the runaround like when my daughter didn’t have a teacher on the first day of school and they didn’t just want to be honest about it a few years ago.
They forget we pay their bills when we pay our taxes yet they’re always BEGGING SHAMELESSLY for money.
Typical public school stuff sadly.
In the end, the inconveniences of dealing with them sometimes is definitely worth the opportunity my kids gain from going here.
I really like the last principal for the last few years I feel like he’s really supportive and very involved. Also says a lot when you have to turn off Google comments lol embarrassing for you.

The preschool program was awful. Our teacher and the principal both didn't take my child's education or well being seriously. The teacher was horribly unprofessional with us multiple times. My child was consistently targeted and harrassed by the teacher. The teacher openly admitted to restraining my child in an email and didnt find any issue in doing this. The speech teacher was amazing and even she saw what we were up against with the rest of the staff. It's sad when a teacher is a bully to a preschool student. My child would come home from school saying "I'm bad" and "I'm naughty". This teacher single handedly diminished my child's self esteem within a few months. Avoid this school at all costs.

Four of my children have attended this school in the five years we've lived in the district. While it's not perfect, all of my children have had a good experience. I have one daughter with speech delays and because of that she has reading delays. They do work hard to help her, but I think more could be done. That's the only reason I gave a 4 overall. The teachers my kids have had have all been great. The principle quickly took care of two separate bullying issues with my kids. The Hope Squad has been a great addition to the school as well.

The principal and vice principal are not easily available to discuss parent concerns. They don’t readily nip reported problems in the bud when they happen (aka the lice breakout -2 weeks late, bullying, bullying, bullying). I called the district on two different occasions about this and they could not stop apologizing.. since then an administrator has been “released” from the school.

Very disappointing -it’s maddening.
My son was in the office one day waiting for me to pick him up after school and he heard them talking about me behind my back. When I picked him up, he was crying and told me everything. When I
told the office this they denied it but honestly some faces turned bright red and they looked extremely guilty. This took a lot of courage for me to do especially because of my previous encounters and my own insecurities to be able to confront.. Later that day the Principal and VP both called me on the phone and said that they were not talking about me but another mom.. this was not comforting at all and I still viewed it unprofessional to openly talk about other parents. I did report this to the district and the apologized. They also said they were going to get a bench for the students to now sit on outside the office so they can have private faculty talk after school.. can anyone still say this is not the most reassuring thing to be told?!! Appalled- grateful to be moving this summer and away from this awful school. Good luck to anyone that goes here. All the best-
Change needs to happen for it to have any sort of improvement.

My son who is a smart 5th grader was never challenged enough here. Homework was weak. Class rooms are taught at the lowest level for the disadvantaged students.

Wish I could say differently. The popular kids are rewarded, the PTO parents and students are rewarded, the administrator’s kids are rewarded.The bully is rewarded here!! The kids that get picked on and are bullied are tossed aside and not taken seriously.

The bullying doesn’t get reported the way it should. I know one parent that had no idea her son was “touched” inappropriately at recess until the kid who was a witness’s mother told the mother of the victim. Even though the witness child had told the principal what she had seen, the parents of the victim were never notified by the school. Police involvement is what made the school finally follow protocol. When asked why they did nothing they simply stated that if they looked into every case like this one they’d be too busy dealing with all the cases instead of being able to do their job. Very discouraging for parents to hear things like this. Also makes one wonder what kind of school they are running to have so many claims like this one reported.

East Layton Elementary has been a great school for us so far! We came here from Europe 2 years ago and our daughter spoke no English at the start of the school year. The teacher allowed me to stay with her in class for the first 3 weeks, in order to help translate. The staff and children made her feel welcome and in no time, she learned the language, made friends and now has excellent school results. She has had 2 outstanding teachers the last 2 years, who inspired learning! We appreciate the positive spirit in this school. The kids learned to play the ukelele in music class last year; they learned a lot about The Lewis and Clark trail of discovery (the history theme throughout the year in 3rd grade); did an interesting 'brine shrimp' class experiment; an educational, hands on measurement project,... Great library teacher too!Just an all-round good place to be! We are very happy our youngest daughter will now also be able to go to first grade here. She went to a private preschool and kindergarten, but we are confident she will thrive at East Layton!

East Layton Elememtary has an Excellent Special Education Team. The teaching staff is supportive of student IEP plans. Teachers work hard to help children with special needs feel like part of the general education classroom. I'm very impressed East Layton. My children will have a lot of happy memories of elementary school.

My daughter was put in a class of 38 students to 1 teacher for her first semester of 1st grade. Before school started, we went to look at class lists and noticed her teacher's title was "staff." They should have found a teacher prior to the actual start of the school year. What they did instead, was divide the "staff" class between the other 1st grade teachers. My daughter was put in a class with 37 other students and was taught by one teacher for half day and another the other half. Then switched after Christmas break, when they FINALLY hired someone.
She is now in 2nd grade and in a class of 29 students to 1 teacher.
In Kindergarten, my daughter was assigned a teacher, then changed 2 weeks into the school year.

This year, they offered "space available bus applications," after they reduced the school bus routes. I know of only one family who was approved. We were not. My barely 7 year old has to cross the road 6 times JUST to be able to stay on the side-walk during the 1.1 mile walk to school. Terrible school. I can't decide if it's the administration at the school or if it's a district problem, but I'm quite certain it's administration at East Layton because I did not have ANY problems when my older children attended Clinton Elementary.
I also find it odd that last year, the student government was chosen by faculty/administration and consisted mostly of students whose parents were in the PTO. East Layton Elementary is terrible.

My 6th grader applied for Student Government last year. She came home and said that faculty/administration chose. Oddly, most of the Student Government chosen happened to be daughters of PTO members.

We love East Layton Elementary! We've attended this school for 4 years and have had awesome teachers every year! There are a few who could retire but the majority of them are very good educators. Our daughter was accepted into the spectrum program and we passed it up because of the fantastic teacher she will have this year. The community/parent involvement in this school is phenomenal, helping with extra funding for school enhancements and activities. The only problems we've seen with the school is the parking/driving situation and the walking track. They've promised solutions, but never followed through with them. They really need to come up with a plan for the parking lot. The other thing that was promised was a walking track that we have yet to see.

We had a great play and choir last year. They are trying to start a language club next year. Parents are very involved. Most of the teachers are awesome.
