I attended this school when it was first founded in 1996, when it was still operating out of the basement of the cathedral. When my family considered moving back to Salt Lake City for work, one of the biggest motivations was having my children attend this school.
What made the school special to me then was the way community, education, and music were all connected and played a major role in my development. 30 years later, I've been incredibly impressed to see those same core values still at the center of the school, even as its grown.
My two daughters receive an incredible amount of support both in and out of the classroom and they are thriving in ways that make me proud as a parent. I've been especially impressed with how well the school, and its faculty communicate with families. Teachers regularly share how students are progressing, where they are excelling and where they can continue to grow.
Having the opportunity to return as a parent and see the same culture that shaped my childhood still thriving today has been incredibly meaningful for our family.

What an absolute blessing this school and community has been for our family! We joined MCS in 2019, when our oldest daughter entered Pre-K. After the first day we knew we could never be anywhere else! We now have two girls in 3rd and 5th grade, who are amazingly kind, well-adjusted, and talented little citizens of the world. I believe that the school has an amazing 360 approach to teaching, so beyond the rigorous formal education you would expect, the students experience and thrive in other aspects such as being a kind and caring human, a fabulous arts program, a wonderful violin musical education, and of course the acclaimed choral music program. Not to mention the new and improved Athletics Department! This has been the most positive year yet, with new staff and programs continuing to add even more value to the school. The combination of all of these learning avenues simply cannot be matched by any other school.
MCS has built a warm, inviting, superior educational experience for our kids, and we are so grateful!

I have been involved with The Madeleine Choir School for several years and love it! It is a great place for students to learn and be exposed to a variety of the arts. Along with the wonderful arts program, the school has worked hard on their athletics as well, recently hiring a collegiate coach as their athletic director. The community is wonderful and it is a place that truly welcomes your whole family.

I LOVE this school! The children, parents, and teachers are incredibly welcoming and it is a diverse community in the heart of SLC. I found this community very supportive and always accessible to address any concerns I have had. Their student services department has always been helpful and informative in helping me find the best resources for my child, and they are very good at supporting all kinds of learners. Also, the new electives program for the middle school has lots of great classes for kids--fantastic addition! Overall, MCS is a wonderful school with great teachers and I thoroughly recommend it.

As a lifelong Catholic who attended private Catholic schools, I was excited to send my son to The Madeleine Choir School. Sadly, our experience was extremely disappointing. From the start, his first-grade teacher was negative and unwelcoming, and we felt he was unfairly targeted.
The final straw was when he was accused of choking another child during a playground game. The other student and his parent confirmed that no choking happened, yet Principal Megan Randazzo pressured my son to admit it and ignored the truth. She slammed her hands on the table, accusing him.Without any real investigation, she expelled our first grader.
This is not the compassionate or fair environment one would expect from a Catholic school. Since transferring to a private Christian school, he is thriving with zero issues.
Parents, please think twice before enrolling your child at MCS. Many families, including ours, have felt their children were targeted rather than supported.

This school has been such a blessing to our family. The community here is so engaging and wholesome. Our child is so full of joy going to school in the morning and wants to stay even longer at pick up! Even in Pre-K the curriculum offered is very well-rounded and we can tell the older students are thriving as well.

There are not enough amazing words to describe this school. We were new to SLC and didnt know a soul. We found MCS on a google search and immediately toured. I was initially so impressed by the friendliness of staff and how well mannered and happy all the kids were. I was a little apprehensive about the music piece since we were not much of a music family, but shockingly it has become one of the things my children love most about MCS. The music program is truly unlike any other and we now have a very athletic kid who loves video games in the performance choir! Additionally, the academics are excellent and much support has been given immediately when needed. The staff is exceptional and you are treated like family, not a number. I love how well the school does at continuously creating change for the better. Since we have been at MCS they continue to get better and better each year. This school does not lack in after school activities or athletics (we love hiking club and basketball!). I have really appreciated the opportunity given to parents to volunteer in so many different capacities. Anytime you are on campus, you will surely see other parents. I truly believe this has created an environment for the kids to get to know their peers families which creates a beautiful sense of community. Finally, the school community is impeccable. The families and staff have become my people. Community is part of the culture MCS has curated. I recommend this school to anyone looking for an outstanding education, fine arts for all children of all levels and community oriented families!

This is our first year at MCS and my sons transition to kindergarten could not have gone better. He felt welcomed and comfortable from day one. The staff, from teachers to the principal, are involved and caring with the students and parents. My sons teacher, Mrs Bertrand, has been friendly and extremely communicative from day one. My son leaves for school excited to see his teachers and friends everyday. I appreciate the close culture the school provides and highly recommend the school.

The Madeleine Choir School offers incredible academics and world-class music and art experiences as well, all while focusing on ensuring our kids are thinking about how they can be agents of justice and love in our world. We are thankful and enriched by the diverse student body. We love MCS!

Love this school! In our 4th year at MCS and really appreciate the well rounded education my kids are getting. Music, art, science, math, language, and more. My kids love talking about what they are learning. Parent involvement and community is strong and I really love going to the school and being a part of such a dynamic and wonderful community.

We started at Madeleine Choir School in 2020. Due to the pandemic, we quickly realized that private school was the only place to be for effective and active decision making. We were determined to keep our kids in school. The had never touched an iPad, and we werent ready to make them dependent on a device to complete any schooling. After public schools opened back up, we were not ready to leave. The school out performs other local private schools and our children were thriving (still are.) not to mention the location was extremely convenient for us. Being in the middle of downtown we are able to simply drop our kids off & go to work nearby. I recommend the Madeleine Choir School to any caregivers who can swing the price. Thanks for reading!

I am a parent of 4 children who have attended The Madeleine Choir School. My last child graduated this past year and will head off to high school. ALL of my children reflect on their time at the school as instrumental in their growth both academically and emotionally. I LOVE that the students are instructed in courses of Latin, Spanish/French, fine art, music, music theory, violin, theology, along with the core subjects of math, science, history, technology, etc. Their learning experience is enhanced by the performances, international travel, and community service. The faculty provides personal attention and adjusts to varying levels of learning needs. In my experience, any difficulties my kids encountered in their academic coursework were met with encouragement from their teachers. This rewarded their patience and reinforced a sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something challenging. The community of parents and faculty are welcoming and there are many opportunities for involvement. We still maintain friendships with families that we made while our kids were young. My kids still have friends from their classes and look forward to the annual concerts as an opportunity to reconnect. This is a unique and exceptional school!

We had our kid go to this school for 6 years. I can wholeheartedly say that this institution cares more about its own image than the integrety of their learning curriculum and teaching practices.
I am sure a lot of families, like ours, is attracted to the school due to its reputation as a very involved school of music and its choir program. I would like to say that the commitment to the choir is understated, and that a student is required to in one way or another participate in church activities if they are not a member of the choir. Atleast half of the choir participants are required to commit an excessive amount of time to the choir often and for many hours. They are given no excuse and teachers threaten a failing grade for the course should a student ask to be excused (due to exhaustion) from a performance or choir practice.
The head of the choir has made themself enogmatic and become a myth. They are not reachable and will direct you to talk to anybody else except them. It gives the impression that the school is so commited to the performance of their choir, that they care little for the emotional growth and the amount of attention each student or chorister needs.
On a paid school (choir) trip, they lost a students luggage and did not reach out to the parents who accompanied thhe group until three days had past. This was presumably due to the head of the choir not wanting any parent involvement as it might "make the child homesick". The same teacher felt the freedom to reach out to the prents when it was time to complain about the child on a different occasion. They allowed for the child to sleep in dirty clothes and had them barrow another students clothes without contacting the parents. On a separate paid school (choir) trip they had the child sleep on a couch on repeated occasion, regardless of the fact that a room and board was paid for (again without informing the prent)
They will email you for everything (except when your child is in need), the teachers nag and delegate responsibility of an orderly classroom to thw parents. A few good teachers have left the school already. Current teachers resort to punishing entire classes for not behaving due to their inability to control their own class and dont even follow the principals instruction on proper conduct and teaching methods, because they are so new and havent been trained.
They also expect heavy involvement and volonteering on behalf of the parent. Do your child a favor and look elsewhere

The required homework is relevant, "nutrient rich" (not just busy-work), and quantitatively appropriate for the age of the child.

I've often joked that the teachers at MCS are clearly magical and have somehow tricked my daydreamer-of-a-little-boy into being focused and happily interested in learning/performing well at school; they are also profoundly compassionate and are eager to stay in close communication with parents about their child.

I cannot say enough positive things about MCS. My husband and I (both medical professionals) have two children at the school: in Pre-K (girl) and 1st grade (boy); they could not be less alike in terms of their interest in schoolwork - our daughter is very Type A and self-motivated, while our son is definitely a daydreamer and requires a lot of (loving, compassionate) structure in order to get focused on learning. MCS turns out to be the perfect school for both of them, both academically and socially, and both of them are so happy with their school. We are continuously impressed that a school with such a rigorous academic curriculum is simultaneously masterful at developing its students as empathetic, outward thinking, responsible citizens. Superimpose all of this with an incomparable music/humanities curriculum beginning in Pre-K, and there is truly no other school that comes compares. (and the tuition - set, in part, by the catholic diocese, is literally a fraction of that of several of the other private schools in SLC). Whenever my husband and I evaluate job opportunities in other cities, we always say "but we will never find another school like the Madeleine Choir School."

We have two boys who attend MCS and have been at the school for over 4 years. They both love the school and we could not ask for a better academic and social community. The parents are highly educated and diverse and the opportunities these kids get is amazing. The Choir is a great feature of the school and the children are learning complex music theory and how to perform in front of large audiences. They have opportunities to sign the National Anthem at sporting events, Festivals like the Grand Teton Music Festival, on tour in Europe at Cathedrals like Notre Dame and many more. The music really helps their scientific brain and also brings a huge aspect of community service to the school as they are giving back with their beautiful voices. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking in Salt Lake City.

I can't speak for every student that went here, but I loved it. No other school can match the spirit and atmosphere of the Madeleine Choir School. I went to a public school after this, and it was far below what the Choir School had to offer. I know I'll always look back fondly at my days at the Madeleine Choir School.
Posted: May 31, 2016
Madeleine Choir School offers a unique experience but doesn't fully explain the choir commitment to parents until it's late in their education. The demand of the choir program coupled with 2-3 hours of nightly homework that begins in earnest in 6th grade and is relentless through 7th & 8th grades does not allow kids to be kids. These kids are no more prepared for IB Programs or Cathloic High School than kids coming from other Cathloic Schools or advanced placement courses.
Teacher turnover is high.
Teachers job share and make it difficult for kids to access teachers; kids can easily have up to 5 tests in one week.
One dissapointing fact is they will stress to you tgey are not a "test heavy school." Completely false. I've heard kids getting anxiety because there is constant testing. There is no emphasis on Science or Social Studies. They might have only 1 test in an entire quarter. The school uses the AimsWEB testing and it only focuses on Math & Reading, hence the focus in class.

We have been here for 4 years, and both of our children love it. Our son in in Pre-K and the teacher is incredibly patient and makes learning so much fun. She has gotten our son, who wouldn't even try to draw a circle before school, to write all of his letters, pictures of all kinds, and love learning. They also have a very broad curriculum, unlike public school. They begin Spanish in Pr-K, they also have music, violin starting in 2nd grade, art and pe. The teachers are all such a high caliber of educator, and the parents are very involved. The music education is amazing, and the basic curriculum is thorough and challenging. It is worth the money to send our children here. Education is about children, not standardized testing!

As a parent whose two children graduated from here (2006, 2012), I can't say enough about the quality of education they received. Your children will receive a classical education here: music from Kindergarten forward, music theory beginning in Grade 4, Latin beginning in Grade 4, violin in Grades 2 and 3, and choir in Grades 5-8... plus a top-notch science and math curriculum, and a delightful art teacher/classes! Students learn respect, personal responsibility, and the desire to do excellent work. The choir commitment is quite demanding and absolutely worth it. This isn't a regular "school choir" -- this choir is recording CDs and performing to sell-out crowds, and touring Europe every two years, and domestically every other year. While both my children were choristers, they also both excel in math and science. I'm certain there's a correlation! Come check out this school; private tours are always accommodated!

This is an excellent school! This school has a fun atmosphere. it is a big choir commitment. There is also a program for called collegium who are not good enough to be in choir or just do not have enough time. The teachers are great. I absolutely love it! I have learned so much. I have been to Italy and Spain for this school! I will never forget that experience. It can be a bit challenging, but it will set you up for an excellent high school and college career. You will not regret sending your kids to this school!
