I am a teacher at MPE. It is an amazing place to work. The building is beautiful with floor to ceiling windows and skylights. The people (teachers, staff, faculty, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, nurses, ect.) are all passionate, kind, and welcome to all. There is such a strong sense of community that makes everyone feel like they belong and are important. The leadership is AMAZING. Principal Mamon is such a caring, compassionate, and hard-working woman. I would absolutely send my own child here and recommend people to apply!

Manassas Park is particularly strong in reaching each student and bringing them as far as they can go.

Mentioned above - bullying is nipped in the bid quickly. Had one experience that was remedied very quickly.

Real learning gets done. Problems are dealt with head-on. Corrective measures taken such as providing extra help outside of classroom time.

This school district is amazing - they teach the kids early to be considerate of each other. No bullying is tolerated at all - my kids say they never see instances of bully. The kids are amazingly supportive of each other. I’ve never seen anything like it. Probably because they all grow up knowing each other since there is only one school for elementary, one middle and one high school only!

Very good communication between teachers and administrators as far as I can tell. All are enthusiastic about bringing out the best in each study.

Teachers do not overload the kids w homework. They are very sensitive kids already working very hard at school. Also no giant burden on parents to provide lots of resources and to assist their kids w projects. The staff are very aware that most parents work.

I think this is an amazing and unique school system. We lucked out moving here and not even realizing the very special nature of MP schools.

The homework my son received in 3rd grade was a complete joke and waste of time and energy. Recycled worksheets from 15 years ago, some handwritten copied pages with a few non-challenging questions every week. There is zero effort required to complete these assignments and serve no purpose. I had to request special homework for my child just to get an interest out of him.

First year here and stark contrast to teachers at Cougar Elementary. Homeroom teacher was horrendous, Gym teacher sounded and acted like an angry coach that got booted from the practice squad, STEM lab teacher who also serves as gifted program teacher didn't seem to invoke any incentive to learn or excel beyond bare minimum performance. I'm hoping there are others with a more positive experience. Son is entering 4th grade and if things continue down the same path as last year we will be looking elsewhere for education. Test scores are abysmal at this school and you would be hard pressed to find lower standards of "achievement"

From watching and interacting with teachers and administrative leadership, I don't feel there is an effective approach at this school. Principal Mamon is extremely nice and professional, but I am not impressed with her ability to hold these teachers accountable for performance based results. I hear nothing but negative remarks from students about how mean most teachers are and how they constantly yell at them, not sure how true this is, but rarely do I hear a compliment about a school day.

Supposed to have an action plan in place throughout the classroom that utilizes subsets of students who are performing differently, but the focus seems to be more on the students who are struggling while the high performers are left to fend for themselves

I have been disappointed thus far with MPES. The curriculum is far behind state regulations in my eyes, I'm sure that's due to the majority of students with English as a second language. The school lunches are horrible and repetitive the entire year. The pickup and dropoff experience is mismanaged and frustrating. The school itself is extremely nice, well-kept, and clean. Minimal programs to incorporate family interaction throughout the year. I'm hoping the school board changes that were made this year will make a difference, coupled with the extensive conversations we've had with the principal. There are no other realistic alternatives in the area which is extremely concerning. Be prepared to be disappointed

Ms. Mommond the principal is not at all compassionate for others nor for the students.

The teachers and staff are all very helpful, except for the principal Ms. Mommond. We moved a couple of times during the school year temporarily. but my daughter wanted to keep on going to MPE because of her friends and eventually we would be moving back to MP. Ms. Mommond sent police officers about 4 times to my relatives house instead of coming to an understanding and reaching out to me prior to sending officers. In addition the school superintendent was also rude in a school meeting, I felt attacked as a parent. I can not believe a person like herself is qualified to be a school principal.

Do not be mislead by the other reviews. I am not one to write reviews, good or bad. Saying that I regret sending my child here. My child was in Fairfax County previously and I, myself have experience with Fairfax County and Prince William County schools.
First of the administrative staff is rude and lacking in knowledge and just overall incompetent. There have been days when my child had forgotten her lunch and I would drop off in the main office. She never got her lunch. There was a time we were one minute later and the front door was locked. I'm glad they lock their doors but we were stuck waiting for ten minutes! I didn't have my phone on me so I had to wait until another parent arrived and they called the main office to let them know. The main entrance has three sets of doors and usually you can get into lobby where you are presented with another set of doors where the main office staff can see you. They will send you millions of junk paper home in the weekly folders but when asking for another picture day form, you are out of luck. I walked in to ask for another one and the secretary explained they don't have any extras and put me on the phone with the teacher. The main office can not help you and just pass on your problem, so it is not on their hands. I came to have lunch with my child and to see what the school lunch is, is despicable. This school does not have any special occasion days set up for the parents or students, such as musical performances, thanksgiving luncheons, plays, holiday events and any parent involvement. We were new to this area and I was worried about my daughter getting off at the right bus stop, I expressed my concerns to the main office and they responded, "Well she should know where she lives and needs to figure it out." Come the first day the bus is running behind 15 minutes which is typical for the first day. Come two weeks later bus had never been consistent due to shortage of bus drivers. The drop off and pick up is worse. There is no kiss and ride set up. For Cougar elementary you must park and sign in but to make it worse there's no parking available in the lot, you must street side park in the neighborhood leading up to the school. For Manassas park elementary there is curbside pick up, the child simply looks for you. The curriculum at the school is two grades behind the surrounding counties school system.

Don’t be misled by the school rating! This is really a nice school with great teachers and the rating is not reflective of the quality of education the students receive. One of the nicest schools I’ve seen in the Manassas area. It’s a relatively new, green building and very progressive. It often receives funding for new/pilot programs such as the extended school year, which we love. My children and I have had a great experience here with the teachers and staff. I have one child that is excelling and in advanced classes. My other child has had difficulties and the staff were quick to get the extra assistance needed. The schools have several students English/second language students and this is likely what is affecting the standardized testing scores. Overall, good schools in a nice community.

Manassas Park Elementary is and excellent public school with caring teachers and front-desk staff. The vice-principal is highly responsive to parents needs. The principal is tops...very impressed by the may additional to the traditional schoolwork they suggest doing. The cafeteria has very healthy choices. My child went to Cougar elementary and it used to be great until the principal left and now. it is just ok. I was glad my child had moved to MPE.

great new building, so clean and so eco friendly. so much technologies put into this school like the smart board in every classrooms. great teachers challenging my son who's in gifted program. I have been very satisfied with both Cougar Elementary and Manassas Park Elementary school. My husband and I are so happy that we moved into this area and only have positive things to say about this school!
