The school has made several changes to the administration and teaching staff. Overall we've been very happy at Abingdon and our kids are both performing at and above grade level. The school is diverse, the teachers are generally very caring and communicative, and the administration is implementing positive changes to increasing communication and community engagement. Issues are dealt with care and support services are easy to obtain/engage with. It's a very large school so supervision during playtime activities has been a challenge but the overall quality of the teaching our kids have received has been wonderful.

This school has disrespected all of my values in teaching and in anything nice in this world, the kids keep on saying curse words and slurs and when teachers notice they don't reprimand at all, and the safety isn't even good. My kid keeps getting bullied and no one is doing anything about it even after he reported it, I would NEVER let my child to go to this school EVER AGAIN (forgot to mention the nurse doesn't do much)

The overcrowding has impacted the learning environment of the school. If your child needs a smaller than regular class setting this school is not a good choice. Overall this school needs upgrading and expansion to address many issues.

The Kindergarten lead is extremely unprofessional. The principal is extremely unsupportive. The APs are overall supportive and pleasant to work with. A neighborhood school in desperate need of reform to make it great. Old school leadership styles and teacher refusal to follow suit of central office direction is hurting Abingdon. It is difficult to argue a curriculum isn’t working if you don’t implement it with fidelity.

I have two very different students that go to the school. One is on the high end, and one is on the low-end. They are both being met with the exact services that they need to meet them where they are, and push them to their highest potential.

We love #Abingdon! The staff is top-notch, and very dedicated. The parent community is friendly and supportive. This is truly a neighborhood school with the neighborhood feel. And on top of that, the school tends to lead the way with educational innovation.

I love that the school believes kids should be kids after school. The homework is very minimal. The expectation is that your kids will go outside, play, discover, learn, etc.

Compassion, yes. Absolutely. It is incredible to see how patient, kind, and understanding students are with people different from them. They develop compassion with students that don’t speak English, autistic students, and people of all races and backgrounds.

The principal has been stable at the school. She attends every event during the day, and in the evenings. She is very involved in the school community.

We love Abingdon! It's amazing to see how much our daughter has grown and learned, all without more than 2 days worth of homework. Staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, nurturing and willing to partner with families to build children for success.

We love Abingdon! The teachers are nurturing and encouraging. Abingdon tries to meet the needs of all students. We love the gifted class for one of our children and the reading specialist for another. I can not say enough good things about this school.

The school is ok. Bias teachers n bad studying. Principal is the problem. She doesn't stand up against wrong. but no control over hitting n bullying in recess. There is lot of hitting in recess but there is no control by the principal. Kids who hit are said it's rough play. And the topic ends there. Excellent school for white kids. 50% kids are minorities and are treated as low income thinking everyone with color falls in that group.. i will be changing school too no wonder is 4-5 rating. As principal says since we have kids English as second language hence the school rating is down. Please show them Henry and Loudon county where non whites are there and school has 9 rating.. PTA is worst doesn't even provide you with parents directory n no room patent that means no way to connect to parents..

No No bullying is just rough play .. if u complain ur kid will be punished. And ur totally ignored from next day onwards.. teachers n students both bully your kids. Parents don't want to talk about it.. want it hidden doors

Only to the students who are gifted or struggling. If ur kid is average will be there. No support for them. You need to get up and start doing things for your kids.

The principal is a problem she likes to please everyone. She doesn't want to show that there is anything wrong in the school she will not follow up if you complain. If you go above her she will solve the problem but totally ignore you. Than you will be ignored by the PTA and also by the teachers. So bottom line don't complain if there is anything wrong to anyone above her. Just take it the way it's going on.

Yes compassionate towards white. Bullying considered a rough play in recess. If you are any other color you will be treated as secondary citizen. Kids will make fun of ur kids food if u send ethnic food and the TA will never say anything.

Only till the time you are in their good books. The teachers are on phone. And would concentrate if your child is gifted. If not he or she would be sitting in a corner with no help. If you ask they don't bother or help your child. Very bias teacher ..

No homework given to your child. MAny would consider it good but a 10-15 min pages of homework helps the kids in long run

I attended Abingdon from 1951 to 1955. The teachers were fantastic (on bad days). Tremendous learning experience; some of my classmates had parents in foreign service. Good way to learn of other countries. All subjects were explained thoroughly so that everyone understood the lessons. Glad to see that the standard of excellence has maintained over the years.

A parent Posted Apr 2014 Abingdon is an excellent school. My son who has been attending since pre koro and is now in the 1st grade. He loves attending Abingdon. At a young age he has developed a thirst and love for learning, he looks forward to school every day. The school has some very dedicated teachers and a wonderful principal.

He continues to score high on the SOLs and the DRE reading test, a testament to the skills of his teachers and the environment of the class room.

My son had a fantastic first year at Abingdon in the 3rd grade. The teachers are very supportive and involved and the principal is absolutely one of the best I've ever met. The school has a very good sense of supportive culture and community with multiple community events during the year, a fantastic arts program, and classes you won't get at any other elementary school (my son adored his architecture class!). I highly recommend this school!

Our daughter started kindergarten at Abingdon this year and we couldn't be more pleased. We love Fairlington and are very happy that Abingdon has exceeded our expectations - the small class sizes and the diversity of the subjects for kindergarten (architecture and science) is impressive and keeps our daughter engaged and excited to be in school. We appreciate that the children are challenged to learn and grown, and there are so many opportunities for parent and community involvement throughout the year.

I have been consistently impressed by the principal, teachers, and staff at this school. This is my daughter's second year at Abingdon, and we are so pleased with our choice to have her attend this school instead of private school. She has really blossomed with the help of the teachers and aftercare staff. The PTA is run by an extremely dedicated group of parents, and I have always felt welcome at meetings even though my volunteer time is quite limited. It definitely has the community school vibe.

Fantastic school with a varied program that keeps the kids on their toes and, most importantly, from getting bored. Imagine, the kids aren't bored in school and are actually learning that learning is fun! The principal is a constant presence at all school functions and is on a first-name basis with the kids; she loves the kids and has infected the teachers with the same attitude.
