Ashlawn is an Excellent school in every way.
There are a lot of factors that go into learning.
Teachers can't fix everything, including home issues & emotional problems.
For the most part, these teachers do the best they can with their positive influence & teaching skills during the hours the students are at school.
Anything outside of that is out of their control.
Thank You,
Eileen Salter

Schools teachers are caring and excited to teach our kids. We have experience with both the gen ed and special ed at Ashlawn and both have been excellent for our kids. There are also Ashlawn events that weve gone to as a family which have been great.
Its a nice close knit community and a good representation of Arlington families since its centrally located in Arlington.

Our two children have been out of Ashlawn in over 12 years. There was principal turnover but the principals and staff were great. At that time it was the little school that could. Despite growth challenges, I recommend being involved and volunteering. It is the way to know what is happening and how to fix issues. That is why I had a good repour with the teachers, principals and staff. The PTA is strong. I recommend encourage participation. If you are not involved one is part of the problem and not the solution. Make it great because the time will go by fast.

Ashlawn teaches students to be thoughtful and respectful of others, to embrace their differences, and to be kind. This is a welcoming environment for all.

As a parent of a current student, we have been pleasantly surprised with the Ashlawn approach to education. Students are treated as individuals and the schooling structure supports the creation of a strong and supportive learning environment.

There are many things that could improve. They way they treat their students with disabilities. Many of them just spend the day in the office and not in the classroom with their peers. Teachers just send kids to the office instead of taking the time to figure out what is going on.

Ashlawn jas been a great experience for my kids. My daughter just started middle school and misses Ashlawn immensely. My son who jas high functioning autism is thriving at Ashlawn. The leadership and staff are extremely flexible and the environment is great. Students are kind to my son and work hard to include him.

This is an amazing school. We moved to Arlington last summer, and choose the neighborhood that we live in based on what we had heard about Ashlawn. We have not been disappointed. Our daughter is a kindergartner, and her teacher and assistant teachers are fantastic. I love the small teacher/student ratio. Ashlawn is a great school community.

The experience you have completely depends on demographics. It's a high school clique like administration. There will be the accepted group and the excluded group. Not at all a good environment.

This is not even an OK school! The staff is incredibly unhelpful, and rude. Not at all, is this an environment for learning.

Both the student and staff are bullies. I went through a horrible experience in this elementary school. Nothing but a facade.

Ashlawn is great! The teachers and aids are very smart and outstanding. The principal is a great person and very involved. The only thing is that the school speaks a lot about worldliness but they need to learn more about other cultures and perceptions I dont think this has excelled in the school. However in general it is a very good school with very involved parents!

One of the worst educational experiences for my son. Between the bullying and the focus on test scores as opposed to learning, the school administrators were unhelpful. According to the school principal, students in North Arlington have IQs in the superior range. Even if that were true, they certainly weren't attending Ashlawn.

Ashlawn is one of the best kept secrets in Arlington County. The principal is absolutely amazing. Her focus on inclusive instruction and literacy has taken our wonderful community school to a whole new level.

My daughter is attending the first grade in the Ashlawn, and I moved her here from a private school in North Carolina. I am impressed by the quality of the teachers and the curriculum, excellent language and social programs, as well as a strong focus on reading. The library is outstanding and the encouragement to read and the help the kids receive as they develop into strong, self-motivated readers deserves the highest praise. The social environment and interactions with the teachers and peers appear to be excellent and healthy, and my daughter has very much enjoyed her first year at the Ashlawn.
