Signal Hill Elementary continues to surprise me, not are they the BEST school and I can truly say this because I have had children in Manassas Park, the City & the County, plus other states. They have gone above and beyond my expectations helping my children not just in learning but also in social development. However last night they had the best trunk and treat event ever and it was not just for the school families it was open to everyone for FREE. a big thank you to the volunteers my children had a blast. This is just one of the many events that they do. They help families for the holidays, have an excellent special learning program, the library is amazing. This is the best Elementary school out there i am so grateful I and my children are blessed to be going here. My one student moved on to middle school and is now making A&B because of the foundation she received from Signal Hill. I wish we could stay here through high-school. Best school ever. Thank you to all the staff for being the best.

My daughter completed kindergarten in 2023-2024. Initially it was a hot mess...they was over enrolled and the class sizes were too big. It was overwhelming for students, parents, and teachers. Within a few weeks the school was clear that it was not acceptable and communicated that they were bringing an experienced teacher from an under enrolled school in the county to open up a new classroom. My daughter ended up getting moved and we were so relieved. By the end of the school year my daughter didnt want kindergarten to be over. In response to the parent who complained about the yearbooks, the school sent home fliers for yearbook ordering, it was mentioned on several of the principals weekly emails so I wouldn't blame the school for not communicating.

Graduation was done in the morning between 9:45am to 11am there was no time together as family after to take picture together with there diploma at the school . They told us on Friday about yearbooks and we came on graduation and they sold out hard copies.???? Communication

My child is thriving at Signal Hill. I'm gratefully shocked at how far she has come. I have been to her classroom and the school in general many, many times because I'm "that mom". I have always been treated with respect. I have always seen the kids treated with respect, while also enforcing discipline where needed. The principal and asst principal are very involved with the children. The office staff is pleasant and caring. The school seems SAFE. I honestly can not ask for anything more.
I am disappointed in the rating system on this site. The algorithm changed when last year this blue ribbon school was rated an 8/10. Now to a 3? Test scores, okay. But we also have non-english students or english as a second language. Are our teachers expected to teach in two languages to get those scores up? And while we're at it, what will that mean to the other children who need to be challenged to advance? We want to put all of these expectations on our educators and compensate them nill. Let's just keep cutting the funding to our education. That should do it!
Bottom line. This is a great school in my opinion. The teachers seem to be doing everything they can to see all students succeed. It just so happens the fields aren't all even and the time is limited.

My son has enjoyed the gifted program, and his teachers have gone above and beyond to make sure that he is being challenged.

Each time I have visited my son's classroom (in kindergarten and first grade), I have been impressed with the teacher's classroom management, keeping the kids focused and engaged.

My first grader has a reading/writing assignment once a week, and the expectation of reading a book of his choice each day. I feel that this is an appropriate amount of homework for a first grader.

My son is in first grade and has had a wonderful experience at Signal Hill. He is an advanced reader, and I have been very impressed with the level of support he has received in continuing to grow and excel, both through the gifted program and through extra assignments that his teacher has provided to give him an added challenge tailored to his reading level. In addition, every time I have visited the classroom, both in kindergarten and first grade, I have been impressed with the teachers' management of their classrooms, keeping the kids focused and engaged.

One time when I dropped my kindergarten daughter off at Signal Hill in the drop off lane, she left her bookbag in the car. She ran back and got it and ran back toward the school. The teacher in charge of supervising was only a step or two in front of her. I started driving away as she ran back toward the school the second time with her bookbag. THANK GOODNESS, I looked back toward the school because my little girl was running after my van crying! The supervising teacher who was walking one stride ahead of her closed the door in her face and locked my kindergarten daughter out of the school! That is only the beginning of some of the ways some of the teachers at Signal Hill acted completely HEARTLESS. When I was chaperoning one of the students was sick. The kindergarten teacher said loud enough for everyone in the room to hear, "Oh, she's our CLASS DRAMA QUEEN." Another child knocked over my daughter as they were lining up to the leave the cafeteria by accident because there was a lot of rough housing. My daughter was bleeding, but Mrs. Ozl pulled her away from me and wouldn't let me near my daughter and snapped at me, "She's fine!"

This will be th4th year that my child has been going to Signal Hill Elem. We have been extremely happy with the teachers, admin staff and PTA We are looKing foreward to another great year. My only complaint is the school web site is not kept up to date.

We moved from out of state. My son was a grade ahead of where his 2nd grade class was. No tests or grades. My biggest concern was no spelling tests his vocabulary and spelling has fallen so far behind as a result. I wouldn't recommend this school. Both years he has attended both teachers have taken a leave of absence during the year for more than a month.

We're a military family, and I used to be a teacher, so between my daughter and I, we've attended/taught at dozens of schools throughout the US. Our daughter only attended fifth grade here, but I have nothing but positive things to say. The 5th grade teachers are all fantastic, and I'm sad to see a couple of them retire. The administration is supportive of military families, my daughter loved PE for the 1st time ever, the French teacher is amazing, the librarians are fun and enthusiastic, and the music and art programs have young, enthusiastic teachers as well. My advice about the dreaded science fair project is: Don't miss the evening meeting the teachers provide for the parents beforehand!!! It was only an hour, and they explained everything from start to finish, and their willingness to go above and beyond made for an excellent learning process for my daughter. The staff's level of organization eliminated an untold amount of stress and tears!! I can only speak for our fifth grade experience, but I'd tell any military family arriving to have confidence in sending their child to Signal Hill Elementary.

I have two children at Signal Hill. I like the school for the enthusiasm and commitment of its staff. It really creates a positive learning atmosphere where the students can feel valued and appreciated. They have interesting chess and robotics clubs now, and we like the French program too. The school library has everything a child may need or want to read, and the librarian is very helpful.

Signal Hill is great school. I am very impressed with the principal's leadership at that school. My two sons attended have been attending that school for 4 years. They have never had any problems whatsoever with either the teachers or students. Academically, I feel they are very strong. This is a school to watch in my opinion. My wife and I are extremely pleased with that school. We like the family atmosphere fostered at that school. Keep up the good work.
