A school staff in the office they always talk in each other socializing and their phones and they never answer the phone. I was there several time and that’s what I see it. If you call it a miracle if they answer very bad School, I do not recommend it. Specially, the office stuff.

This school is one of the worse high school i have ever went to , the teachers didnt care to help the students they never taught the kids anything but coloring in the special needs classes . The teachers there are only there for the money they could be helping all student of everylevel more then what they do and special need students should be learning actual work instead of just doing kendergarten work in a highschool , special needs teachers should make the kids help grow there iq levels instead of what they do.

This school was a great school to attend overall, but I will say that my one complaint about attending this school for 4 years was the organization of clubs and sports, largely due to the current athletic director. Playing multiple sports at unity reed, formerly stonewall Jackson, has been fun largely due to the culture and coaches that put everything into the sports. The athletic director however only made things difficult for sports, and specifically the sports that often go unnoticed (like field hockey, lacrosse, golf, tennis, baseball, softball, and swim). He often prioritizes individual athletes that he deems “athletically gifted” while neglecting the rest of the team and other sports that do not have such athletes of his liking. The unfair distribution of funding for sports is also a problem. It seems every year that basketball and football seem to get more and more money from the school while other sports like lacrosse and field hockey are left to fundraise their money on their own, which inevitably becomes property of the school after the team and parents work to fund their children’s sports. I believe that this problem stems from the current athletic director, Kevin Turner, who has shown for years that he is unfit to be an athletic director.

Currently I have not heard about bullying at the school. This doesn't mean it doesn't exist however I believe we would work to make sure this problem would be addressed.

It exceeds my expectations! It is important that the school is funded to overcome the age of the school building. Otherwise what is imperative is parent and community involvement. There are excellent caring teachers at the school! We are definitely higher than a 2. I have reached out to Great Schools multiple times to get this rating fixed.

Teachers care about the individual students. They are willing to stay after school to help any who struggle. They challenge the kids to think independently and to analyze material, not just memorize.

We've had 2 students graduate from the IB program and one has graduated with honors from college and the other one is in her 3rd year of nursing at UVA. Currently we have a 10th & 11th grader attending and on track for college as well. The Music program is phenomenal and wins awards every year. Also impressed with Project Lead the Way for engineering. The low rating of this site does not accurately reflect what we've experienced at SJHS

All four of my children had a great experience at Stonewall Jackson High school. The teachers are there for the students and they want them to succeed. I highly recommend this high school. I am blessed that my children went there.

Stonewall allows teachers to set their own homework policies, within certain regulations. Some homework is obviously expected, but there are limits placed in more advanced classes.

In contrast to nearby high schools, the IB program helps not just IB students. SJHS won the title for "No Place for Hate". They have cultural awareness assemblies for Hispanic Heritage and Black History Month. The SALC is one of the strongest in PWCS. The students do the announcements, decorate the walls, and design the activities throughout the school year. EXCELLENT CHARACTER!!!

The security staff is amazing. The admin team actually goes out into the community to advertise Back to School Night and other school events. Unlike other high school principals, Dr. Nichols can be seen at many academic, athletic, and extra-curricular events.

The school's interpretation of IB makes it more rigorous than AP. The EL and SPED students are taught in a variety of ways. Small class sizes. Team-taught classes. Various EL strategies implemented.

"No place for hate." This school is the most diverse in western PWCS. Thanks in part to this diversity, students participate in so many different clubs. There are not as many noticeable cliques as at other high schools. Sometimes, other schools' students do not know how to interact with the huge amount of diversity when transferring or visiting. However, SJHS students and staff are quite welcoming of new members of the community.

Low test scores are a concern. However, many SJHS students work to help their families, so that may affect their attendance and test scores. SJHS has a strong family atmosphere. The IB program is outstanding. The school spirit and traditions are strong. Class sizes are smaller than other schools which helps make the learning experience more effective. There is a positive vibe at the school. Teachers care about the students. The students care about each other. It is a school of world class excellence in so many ways where other schools fall short.

I have 2 students at SJHS. One is an IB student, the other takes regular classes and enjoys his PLTW electives. They both have had great experiences. The teachers are supportive and have appropriately challenged my children. Even though it is a big school with over 2500 students, the administration knows my children. The guidance department has been wonderful supporting my students choices and helping them with their goals. My kids love the diversity of the school and the inclusiveness of the student body. This school has been a blessing for my children.

My daughter is a freshmen at SJHS. So far, she really likes the school and is a straight A student. The majority of her teachers are very good and she is learning a lot. Her Spanish II teacher, I feel, isn't teaching enough Spanish II material. I think it is a great school. There are definitely improvements needed on school grounds and more tutoring to raise the test scores. I think pwcs spends more on the newer schools like Patriot and Colgan instead of investing in older schools like SJHS. There is a more relaxed rules setting overall in the school. Overall, I feel like my daughter is getting a good education but it could be better if things in the school were improved.

There are so many gangs and drugs in this school, it is unbelievable. There are also very good kids and programs. Please know both sides.

I have child that's also enrolled in the IB Program. The coursework is rigorous and teachers are supportive. She gets plenty of attention and opportunities outside of class if she needs help, extra credit or re-test. I'm most happy with her not having disruptive students in her classes. Other students are just as serious as she is about their education.

SJHS is NOT for snobs & those with issues with diversity!!! It is for those wanting their children to have a well rounded, diverse experience that will enable them to encounter life at any level of culture. There really is very little to complain about, other than 1) you are not allowed to be a bully/snob, 2) the world will NOT revolve around your child be/c everyone is treated equally, 3) you will not be privileged be/c of your skin color, 4) no one there to cater to the "special" & premier people, 5) there is a high moral code to live by, 6) there are too many opportunities for students to succeed, lead, create, discover, establish and learn, and 7) people are NICE - not your typical rude, competitive, catty NV culture at all! After 1st year, my son has established 2 new clubs, won 9 awards, past 2 AP exams (4/5), invited to attend 2 national leadership conf, and has been given the opportunity to do more in 1 year at SJHS then ANY OTHER PW school. Most of all he has grow tremendously in character and confidence. Not sure what all the complaining is about... With all this school offers, would the same complains exist if it's population were 60%+ white?

Stonewall Jackson HS has been great for my daughter. She has loved all her teachers and they seem to really care. I have gotten emails and phone calls about important information that concerned her. She is a member of the color guard, performing in both marching band and winter guard. They are consistently the highest performing team. She has really come out of her shell since joining.

I'm just tired of uneducated people making uneducated assumptions about this school. Maybe if they were IB students they would form their opinions with a little more first-person research. Parents, you should be better than this. What are you teaching your children?

Stonewall Jackson High is a disappointment. I have read the write ups and ratings and I simply do not believe them. There is evidence of allot of money being spent and people talking about the IB Program. The program is out of Switzerland and is basically to insure a "Global Standard" for education. My son who is in attendance is less satisfactory in his knowledge and understanding of subjects. His motivation as he enters the 9th grade is at an all time low. In reading some of the ratings that have been written, I get the feeling that they are "canned". When I do run into something that appears to have some value, I am concerned. If I can make other arrangement for my student I will. On another note, I did at least get contacted by two of the schools teachers who had concerns. This caused me to give a higher teacher quality rating. However principal leadership demonstrated thus far is one of lacking. Orientation night was not very good. Parent Involvement... well I am still unable to get my parent portal account straightened out. What kind of school arranges for parents to have a parent teacher conference from 0730 am to 0930am?

I have three children. The first one went to SJHS and we were very pleased with the outcome. When our son was ready for high school we had been redistricted and he went to Brentsville. The differences between the two schools was stark. Although Stonewall was far more diverse and some people have thought that the diversity was a problem we have found the opposite. The kids and faculty at Stonewall were outstanding. When it was time for our youngest to start high school there was no question that he would go to Stonewall. Any student in the northern portion of the county can attend Stonewall if they are willing to take just one IB course. Our youngest son is about to graduate with a full IB diploma and he is applying to the best colleges in the country. Stonewall's IB program coupled with great teachers and a diverse student body is outstanding.

We can't speak for the school as a whole, but the International Baccalaureate program is superb, with exceptionally qualified and committed teachers and administrators. Many decades ago, I attended a large public high school with a graduating class of 600 or 700 that mimicked the general distribution of society: 5% were headed directly to jail, and 5% to Ivy-class colleges, with everything in between. Stonewall's IB program is like a school-within-a-school concentrating the top 5% of its 2500+ kids, and attracting a penumbra of additional highly motivated kids who self-select to take IB (equivalent in rigor to AP) courses. At the same time, the diversity of the entire student body has been a great experience for our kids.

I am very very pleased with the opportunities this school provides students. The administration and staff are in-the-know about their student body and the challenges. They do not hide their heads in the sand like some schools, but actually acknowledge and deal with issues head on. They are very good at educating "today's" teenagers in a very diverse population.

The school is very diverse and deserves more credit than it gets. The teachers there are so dedicated to what they do. I will never forget the lessons I learned there because of the great student body, and the wonderful teachers that helped me along the way.
