Northside High School

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Northside! We moved from Hidden Valley and are absolutely satisfied! The school staff is excellent and Mr.Dent and Mrs. Franklin are truly gems in this school. They take an active, honest interest in the students and stay in touch with them to guide them along the way. My past experience with the South County has not been pleasant. In the South County area, there is too much focus put on the wealth of the students and their families and there is too much bullying and general mean spirit of some of the kids that gets overlooked. NHS gets little to no press for their efforts in educational and sports achievements. The Roanoke Times actually told me they had to choose to pick an area to focus on in their community section on their website, and this wasn't it. Too bad for the kids who deserve recognition for their efforts. Parents need to speak up and send in articles to highlight our kids! Northside rocks! Anyone thinking of moving to this school should do it, your kids will thank you for it!

i love this school i went there for 9th and 10th grade and i went to the middle school from 6th to 8th grade. the teachers there really care about the students and their grades they care on how the student is doing. during spirit week they interact with the students by also dressing to the days theme. the principals there are very nice but firm to. the foreign language programs are great especially the german program it has grown tremondusly in the past couple of years the teachers make classes fun by providing fun and educational games and instruction. this is a school i will deffinatly be sending my children to and that i am hoping to be teaching at in a few years. the teachers there have really inspired me to better prusue the career that i have drea,ed of since i was a little kid they help in preparing you for the right college classes that you will need to take. they also provide two diffeerent typs of diplomas and help you to understand what you need for either diploma and which diploma would be best for you. i am hoping to return to northside with in the next few months to finish my lhigh school years and get the classes i need to graduate with the right diploma i need!

Northside is a great school! I attended Northside for two years - eleventh and twelfth grades- and I loved it. I had the luxury of attending during the renovations, but it only made being there more interesting. I attended three different schools in two different school systems before coming to NHS and I would definately place NHS as as top notch school. The teachers who are there are wonderful because they want to be there. The principals are very friendly, but also do a great job of enforcing the rules. One thing I love about Northside is the diverse group of students. There is not just one kind of person at NHS. Even though there are cliques like any other high school, the students at NHS seem to be much more friendly, interactive and accepting of other people. If I move back to Roanoke, my kids will attend NHS.
