This school was absolutely heinous, I went here in 2023 and the treatment I received from administration and students was terrible, I was bullied relentlessly in both years I attended this school and any time we told the staff there was nothing done, infact they favored others over me. The vice principal there at the time was actively out to get me, he had a genuine dislike for me for no reason, I wasn't even a bad kid. Most of the teachers were incredibly disrespectful and bad at there jobs, the amount of people who I knew who went homeschool just cause of bullying was head scratching. This school was not interested in helping anyone who had any sort of mental health issues at all. Overall if someone asked me how to describe thornburg middle I would tell them how it made me feel alone, worthless, unloved or cared for, how it made me feel like I couldn't rely on anyone but myself if I needed help, if you are a parent I beg you to never let your children into this school, my parents regret their decision every single day.

I used to go to Thornburg Middle School, but I ended up leaving to do homeschool because it just got too crazy. At first, I thought people were exaggerating when they said it was bad nope. They werent.

You only get two minutes to change classes, which basically means running for your life every single period. The halls are packed, people push, and if you drop something just say goodbye. The bullying is awful too. Its everywhere, and hardly anyone steps in to stop it. Sometimes it even felt like the teachers didnt care or they were just too burned out to deal with it.

And honestly, I get why. Teachers were quitting all the time like one day theyre there, the next day theyre just gone. The food is gross (mystery meat is real), and it feels like the school has zero funding for anything.

There were fights almost every week and lockdowns so often that people barely reacted anymore. It was kind of scary, but after a while, you just got used to the chaos which is probably the saddest part.

Now that Im homeschooled, I actually feel safe and can focus again. Thornburg wasnt just a tough school it was a full-on endurance test. If you made it through there, you deserve a medal.

I am a student at this school. This GOD-FORSAKEN SCHOOL. This school has been horrid ever since day one.

Lack of time for students to go to class -

The students only get two minutes to get to-and-from classes. Which is significantly too little time to get to class, which, the highly overcrowded halls don't help.

The kids.

Now, maybe you will think im a hypocrite or rude, thats okay if you think that, but the kids are just RUDE. I'm an autistic person, and someone literally started laughing at me while I was starting to have a breakdown, which highly escalated the situation. Now, maybe it's my fault that I yelled at a kid and started threatening people, but laughing for sure doesn't help.

Distractions

Related to the students again, the kids (at least 6th graders) often make it personally extremely hard to focus, so I can't pay attention without hearing "67!!" Or something like that.

Violence

I see the kids often engaging in violent activities, such as people hurting eachother on the bus, or in the stairwell, which is just unsafe and unethical.

My cousin went to school here and he loved it. I've met plenty of former teachers that talk highly of this school and suggest it for my kids.

I graduated Thornburg in 2023 after all three years of attending this torturous place. The principal abuses her power and suspends people without probable cause. I can name multiple people. A younger friend of mine who is like a sibling to me is going into eighth grade and isn't allowed to see a friend of theirs because the principal does not like them. In my sixth and seventh grade year, we had an amazing principal. I do miss Dr. Rhue. I myself was suspended for something I didn't do, a comment I never made. I received a ten day suspension. I received hundreds of death threats at this school. My mental health was severely affected during my time here. I recommend not attending this school if you're able to get your child somewhere else. There were a few decent teachers but a lot of them weren't that good.

Teachers laugh and talk about you to other teachers about you. Students make fun of you and they even push you around and what makes this worse is that the teachers see it or pretend to not see it and they dont say anything. This is a terrible school.

One star only because there wasnt an option for zero. This school and in fact the entire county has a bullying problem that they refuse to address. (After interacting with some of the parents of the children who attend this school it appears the fruit does not fall far.) The staff has no control over the kids whatsoever, they seem to do as they please from the time they go to the bus stop to the time they go home at the end of the day. The counselor my child had came across as lazy and uncaring, giving advice that wouldve undoubtedly ended up with my child being labeled a snitch for asking for help. CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO GO TO SCHOOL. Sadly one or two fantastic teachers cant possibly make up for the lack of leadership here.

The food was always moldy I had to switch schools because no one tried to seek awareness for the amount of bullying and death threats I have gotten I was ignored by the counselor and the principal I was in a deep hole depression with no one looking out for me if it wasnt for my mother I wouldnt be around I felt so unwelcome in my environment and unsafe I will never forgive the staff members who ignored me and my family its almost been a year now since my situation I still havent completely healed please dont send other kids to the school if you have the choice the children are not disciplinedAnd theyre not scared of the staff members because they do nothing it is a absolute zoo and Average success rate for the school is very low

I'm a 7th grader at this school. The school is not bad, but not great. The vice principal likes to make random rules that just don't make sense. The teachers really make up for it. There are not a lot of bullies at this school, but there are a lot of 6th grade fights. One of my friends broke up two fights in 3 days. However, the teachers are really nice and there isn't a lot of homework.

The overwhelming amount of bad reviews on google for this school are 100% a true reflection. They overstep their boundaries and misuse their authority. Our lives have been turned upside down since my child started this school.

The teachers are wonderful but the school districts policies have a created a nightmare. High numbers of children are grade levels behind, bully incidents are ignored while violent & disrespectful behavior is excused to maintain funding.... something has to change before this districts schools resemble a prison yard..

Sposty schools created their own policy and form for bully incidents to avoid having to file the bully form. The form was created to hide violent incidents that cause cuts to funding and negatively effect the schools stats. When A bully policy means violent behavior is ignored, excused and withheld from parents to avoid the loss of money... do you really think disabled students are any concern?

Sixth and seventh grade were wonderful, but eighth grade was lacking. Autism support is seen as enabling students and is diminished greatly in eighth grade without preparation.

Homework is sent home in large packets at the end of the grading period, rather than insisting that students stay on top of it and get it done throughout the nine weeks.

Unless you agree with the principal about how wonderful his staff is, youre wrong. Be aware that if you complain about a teacher, youll likely meet a brick wall.

TMS is a middle school that has the highest expectations for student success! The administration, staff, PTO, parent volunteers, and students all work together to promote student success. Communication from the school exceeds expectations from administration and teachers. Teachers are promptly updating grades for parents to review on the county's data base and some use other technological resources to convey class updates. There are many opportunities for students to be active in the school support from athletics, liberal arts, and STEM. Five stars are not enough to promote TMS. Everyone is an unified group working to improve the quality of education for the students. Join the PTO or be a parent volunteer and be part of the school team that puts the students first!

I am not sure how Thornburg Middle School could be any better. From the principal to each of the teachers, the commitment to our children is amazing. I highly recommend this school.
