My child was sexually assaulted on their watch and they handled the situation horribly. They are still very much punishing the victims, not the perpetrators.

Overall, we had a positive experience but it felt like the negatives we had were pretty hard and were hard to push through. This school really has a lot going against it but the teachers as a whole lead by Mrs. JP are truly wonderful. I just wish they could weed out the bad teachers and staff members.

Behavioral matters are addressed efficiently and with understanding of all students involved. Parents are kept in the know of what is taking place.

My daughter loves this school and the teachers and staff who work in the building. In my opinion, student safety is the first priority, building student character is the second priority, and academic success seems to follow.

Written homework is not a priority. Instead students are encouraged to read with their families, practice math facts and if necessary, study for upcoming assessments.

Our 2nd & 3rd grader have been welcomed with open arms and have received the individual attention I would expect at a private school. The teachers and staff have incredible hearts for these kids and we love it here. There is a gifted program that has brought about a new excitement for learning in my child and the in-class experiments and conversations are discussed with excitement at our dinner table!

Homework is sometimes assigned but there is no time alloted by the policy makers in the administration to review of wrong answers so that the student may improve.

I have been happy with every teacher that my daughter has encountered at this school. The have an excellent attitude and our doing their best, but the adminstration has the teaching as though the entire acadmic year is a "SOL Preparatory School," skipping some important educational topics entirely, and putting exaggerated focus on questions they expect ot see on the SOLs at the end of the year. I''m sorry to say that the administration cares more about the SOL scores that their students obtain, than providing a good, all-around educational experience. Moreover, if your student falls behind, they will be left behind. The classroom as a whole moving inexorably forward on expected SOL questions are of the highest priority, unfortunately to the exclusion of personalized student help.

I hate to say such a thing about a shcool, and do not mean this to apply to the well-intentioned teachers that I have personally encountered, or the staff that I have met, but the school seems to have a policy of developing a narrow focus based on questions that the policy making administrators believe will be on the upcoming SOL. The school's ranking is what matters, not the importance of a well-rounded educational experience, including spending extra time on areas that some students find more difficult to understand. I was horrified to find out that my 5th Grade daughter did not have the slightes idea of what a "noun" was when she was visiting me, a non-custodial parent, a month ago. We proceeded to review the basics of what "nouns" are and what "verbs" are. When I tried to press on to "adjectives," which I noticed she had just had a quiz on, and "adverbs," she was clearly overwhelmed with too much new information to fast, and I dropped the subject. I had been working more on her math when she visits on alternating weekends, but must now realize that I have a much broader job of helping my daughter than I had realized. The school policy appears to have the narrow view of constantly pushing the bulk of the class of students forward, with little time for those that fall behind for whatever reason.

In the past, I cannot remeber ever being negative about my daughters' schools. I always felt that the school teachers, staff and leadership administration had the best of intentions and were doing the best that they could with respect to giving my two daughter a good, well-rounded public school education. I am sorry to say, that the leadership here has come to disappointment me. During 3rd and 4th Grade my younger daughter slowly began to fall behind what is considered "average" in most of her subjects. Now in 5th Grade, she is reading at "beginning 4th Grade level" and barely average in math. I am doing the best I am able as a non-custodial parent to review the areas where she is weak in with her when she visits every other weekend, but the the school's policy-making administrators are extremely negative to parent input in this area. It is "sink or swim" here, with the entire emphasis on the school itself's rating and high scores on the SOLs. I was truly surprised to hear the Principal discussing her concern about its ratings drop on "GreatSchools.com" at a "PTO" Meeting two years ago, but did not have enough knowledge or experience with the school to understand significance of her worry at the time. I do now. They have raised their rating from 4 to 5, but my younger daughter is an example of those who are left in the dust if they fall behind and their do not have enough parental teaching at home to supplement the teaching at school that we used to expect as a matter of course in my day. Maybe I am just getting old, but I can't remember either of my parents having to make up for teaching that was expected from my school, but was either not covered or teachers were not available to answer the questions I had when reviewing my wrong answers in class or in homework assignments, and especially on examinations and even quizes.

Very poorly, for reasons that I have discussed in detail above. I am very disappointed in the way this school operates, although I have yet to meet a teacher who I do not respect and believe is doing their best for my daughter, as well as the class as a whole.

Ok, I don't know what everyone has experienced with this school and their child. I personally went to this school when I was a child. I loved the school when I attended there. Granted this was back in 1994-1998. I moved back here just so my son could go to this school. I personally love the interaction with the pto, that I am apart of, the things that the school does with the children. Every time this school is doing something I make sure that my son participates. The only thing that I do not like is that some teachers don't pay attention to the weather and what the children are wearing. If it's super cold or raining outside, the teacher should make sure that each child is properly clothed. My son has came back without his jacket and hat or with someone else's items. If they would monitor this minor thing I would be ok. I know it can be done because again I use to go to this school and that's how I was treated from 1st grade to 5th grade. My son is currently in kindergarten. As far as homework goes, my son was not getting enough homework sent home. But, I set up a conference with his teacher and explained to his teacher that he needs more. Ever since then he either has homework sent home or a program that he has to complete for extra credit online. As long as you communicate with these teachers you can get the results you want. Overall, I still love this school especially after the upgrades they have done over the years since I attended.

I really don't understand the drop in rating this year as the SOL scores across the board have increased substantially. Don't be deterred by the greatschools rating for Falmouth. Go in and meet the administrators and the teachers! We've been at Falmouth for two years and came from a private school. I couldn't be more pleased with my children's experience in the classroom and my experience working with the PTO and volunteering in the school. The teachers are a dedicated lot. They put so much work, love and effort in to each and every day. Every teacher my children have had have taken time to get to know them, talk to my husband and I about their performance and really know their strengths and weaknesses. The art, music, library and PE teachers are phenomenal and we are so lucky to have them. It's a small school with a real family feel. It's also a diverse school with wide ranges in academic level. My children fall on the higher ranges of the academic scale but I've never felt they haven't been challenged.

Great kindergarten experience. my daughter has come a long way this year. By the time her first year was over she was completely reading on her own, doing addition and subtraction and had a strong knowledge of American history and current events.

This school is wonderful! It is very student-centered and the teachers and staff work hard to ensure students are learning to their fullest potential. It has a community feel and the PTO works hard to involve the parents in numerous activities. Our PTO has even helped in purchasing SMART BOARDS for the classrooms. My child has attended for two years and is looking forward to going back in the fall. She loves her peers, teachers and staff. When I told her she may have the opportunity to go to a different school, she cried. We will stay here as long as possible!

This school year my son has not been challenged to his full potential. For a 1st grader, I was expecting more homework and actual correction of his assignments. The teacher sends his homework home on Monday, which normally consist of a one math sheet, spelling word sort, come up with similar words that are within the sort, and a read a book. His class work was not graded until the weekend so I did not see it until the following Monday. The class size is too large for the teacher to handle alone with a 20-25 kid ratio to one teacher. I do agree that the staff is friendly, but good gracious and luck volunteering for anything. They would rather have teacher s spouses (w/o children) come help out vice an actual parent. So I would have to say no, they do not provide reasonable guidelines to volunteering within the school system. Maybe this school for me was a culture shock coming from a private school that had better communication with parents, and wanted more parental environment in school activities. I would have to say that the state score does in fact reflect the schools performance, and I would encourage parents to consider other education solutions for their children.
