I have a 8th grader and a 6th grader at Gayle. Two very different children. The expectations from their teachers are the same. My students have done very well at Gayle. They have been involved in. Many extracurricular activities as well. I work in a school and I can tell you that school many times is what you put into it. There are crappy teachers everywhere and I'm sure at Gayle, some young and inexperienced and some older and jaded. At any school. As parents you stay on it and advocate. Some of these reviews are not truly reflective of Gayle.

We previously sent one of our children to 6th and 7th grade at Rodney Thompson, and now are sending her through 8th grade, and my second child through 6th grade at Gayle.
It's clear things have either dramatically changed at Gayle, or Rodney Thompson prioritized scores over quality because my daughter (member of NJHS, honor roll, participates in extracurriculars) finds Gayle to consistently be a better experience all around.

I wish I could give this school 0 stars. I am a current 7th grader at this school and I am probably not as smart as I could be. The Teachers and Staff are super disrespectful to the students and the students are super disrespectful to the teachers. Most of the teachers give unlimited chances and don't care what the students do. And even the teachers who don't give unlimited chances on assignments, don't know how to discipline their students. And on another note in the last year we've had at least 9 lockdowns. So if you move to this district, DO NOT SEND YOU CHILD HERE!! SEND THEM SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT PLEASE!!!!

This school gives true meaning for pushing your child through the system. Individual growth is not a concept cared for at this school, tasks are made easy and kids are given unlimited attempts on assignments not truly caring if they grasp learning. GOD Forbid your kid has an IEP, case worker will hoot and holler how great your child is doing in spite of him/her failing every standardized test in existence.

This school is absolutely horrible.. the teachers canÂ’t teach, and the ones who can cant discipline. This is by far the most violent school in my area IÂ’ve ever heard about and they do a terrible job preventing fights. Someone got scalped here a few weeks ago.. absolutely a terrible experience.

There is no homework. As this may be in a kid's opinion great, in a parents not so much as there is no reinforcement of what is being taught. There is no math work sent home as apparently it is top secret and cannot leave the school grounds. How is a parent able to help a child develop good math skills if again we cannot reinforce the skill at home?!

Teachers cannot be effective if they are not in their classrooms! There is a substitute just about every day in two or more classes a day! This is unacceptable.
Posted: December 3, 2019
There is no compassion shown to a student who is trying beyond their best to resolve an issue of a submitted assignment marked missing assignment. They are dismissed and told to come back later. Unacceptable!
Posted: December 3, 2019
We are teaching our kids accountability, this is rather difficult if the teacher as an adult in education or teachers by example are not fulfilling their roll of accountability. Ungraded papers for over a month, marking assignments missing when they have been handed in resulting in the misplaced blame adding undue stress and confusion upon the student.
Posted: December 3, 2019
My child has high anxieties, yet when he approaches a teacher to clear an issue he is dismissed and his concerns are not taken seriously.
Posted: December 3, 2019
I have not had a real issue with this and I hope not. For the sake of all those involved. Authorities would definitely be called.
Posted: December 3, 2019
I would rank it as think twice and then think again.

There were a few teachers that were good, however, many of them didn't know how to teach.

Horrible. I was bullied by students, and the administrators did nothing but tell me that it was my fault.

Obvious non compliance with IEPs and 504 plans. Most (not all) teachers are not concerned with students well being and education. They mostly seem to be doing the bare minimum of the requirements and do not try to follow best teaching practices.

This has been a horrible experience. I regret moving to Stafford county based off of my experience at the school. I am currently enrolling my children in private school because of these problems. Please beware if you are moving to SCPS and will have children enrolled.

The assigned homework usually do not follow learning objectives which are related to the course. Homework is not graded and recorded in ParentVue for weeks, often only being recorded only days before interim or end of the quarter grades are sent home.

My daughter was bullied at this school muliple times during 7th Grade and virtually nothing was done about it. Her grades crashed, she needed counseling and no is in 9th Grade and I don't believe she has ever fully recovered. She's become a 14-year old recluse.

I would rate the teachers four stars but the administration 1 or 2 stars at best, based on the way they dealt with my daughter's bullying. I'm really sorry to say this, but as a concerned and loving father who participated in the school's PTA, I can say that she entered the shool and finished 6th Grade as a ball of fire. Then she was crushed by bullying during the middle of 7th Grade, and has not been the same since.

This school is great. The staff members are very professional and the Principal is very engaging with parents and student. My daughter attended Gayle and they prepared her well for High School. She currently attends Stafford High and is always earning high academic awards.

Gayle Middle does not deserve a rating in my book. The Teaching Staff can't even do a simple job that is required of them. How do they expect the pupils to understand the ethics of doing their work, when the Teachers can't even do theirs. The three years I've had nothing but issues with them, trying to keep up with the progress of my child's work an grades. Even thou I had to rate it with one star so I could post this comment, it does not deserve the one star rating.

In my opinion. This school enforces bullying. If your child is not one of their favorites be very careful because I believe your child may be a target of the kids bullying and the schools bullying. This behavior is acceptable based on the adults in the school bullying parents and children when you demand excellence. When you file a complaint the school will begin to target you and bully you. They may need to participate in the DARE bullying part of their own program. This is down from the teachers to top administrators (assistant principal). This has been the worst 3 years. Teachers are horrible, one teacher said my son needed a tutor. I saw how she was teaching and it was obvious she did not know how to teach. That night I showed my son how to do the work and the next day he had his test and scored the highest grade. My child was told he would be suspended if he wore lotion with cologne. Be careful if you are moving into this district. DO NOT BUY A HOUSE YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET AWAY.
