We had an over all great experience with St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School. My 4 children attended elementary and middle school. They all learn and thrive at the school, academically, socially, sports and most of all spirituality. They prepared the children for high school. The teachers are encouraging and supportive of the children to be successful. There are areas for improvement but they listen to the children and parents- teacher org.

We absolutely love Aquinas and can't imagine sending our kids anywhere else. Our now 6th grader started at Aquinas in Pre-K. Fast forward to now and we have 4 kids who attend, with a 5th soon to follow. For us it was a "no-brainer" for our family to choose this school. We have 10 nieces and nephews who have attended or are currently attending. We also have many friends whose kids go here.

This school feels like a family. All the teachers and administrators know and truly care about every student. We cannot say enough good things about them. Not only are they knowledgeable in their subject matters, but they take the time to make sure the students are learning, not just passing their grade. It's nice to be in a school where everyone knows the students' names. The kids have formed life-long friends and so have the parents.

We also love the religious aspect. Both the religion curriculum and the fact they attend weekly mass, as well as going to adoration in the chapel that is on campus, makes us feel great about sending our kids here. We know they are getting a strong foundation of faith. It's a benefit that the school is run by Dominican sisters. Their leadership, knowledge and enthusiasm have a strong and positive impact on the whole school.

We highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to have their child in a safe, caring and spiritually rich environment. For us, there is nowhere we would rather be.

Our experience at Aquinas has been everything we expected and more. My oldest has been there since Kindergarten and is now in Middle School and my youngest has been there since Pre-K and is in Elementary School now and we couldn't be happier.

Aquinas has provided a safe, disciplined, balanced, and expansive experience for my kids. The academic floor at Aquinas is everything we hoped it would be. We feel strongly that our kids are being taught at a high academic level and that academic expectation is so integrated that it is the norm for the kids which is great.

The school also has balance in extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities. My children have been in everything from Band to Battle of the Book to Quiz Bowl to Middle School Musical and more! They have also made super close friends and have robust social lives.

I would highly recommend Aquinas regardless of your social, economic, or religious background. It has been a wonderful place for our family.

We joined the Aquinas family when our daughter was entering 6th grade and she is currently in 8th.

It had been our first choice when we moved to the area the year prior but there was a waitlist for her grade. We immediately felt we were right where we belonged and as a military family, that is huge! Our daughter felt welcomed and the school even connected us with a Guardian Angel family before school started to help us get oriented and just to have a POC for questions. We have since been a Guardian Angel to a couple other new families. As a parent, I found it very easy to get involved through volunteering and meet other parents. The current PTO is a very inclusive group and always looking for more hands to help with all the special events they sponsor throughout the year. That is the spirit of Aquinas!

The leadership and spiritual guidance of the Dominican Sisters is outstanding! Knowledge and practice of the faith is of utmost importance followed closely by high academic standards. The middle school teachers are more than willing to work with different student abilities and there are levels of math and English classes offered to best suit students competency. The new assistant principal has an enthusiasm that is contagious
and the school counselor is phenomenal!

The school also takes security very seriously and given the tragic events happening at schools across the country, this is very reassuring. The school has a committee of highly trained security professionals to provide recommendations to further enhance the schools security measures.

Highly recommend Aquinas for grades PK-8!

We moved to this school after spending a year in public schools. We are a military family, and this is our eighth elementary school. No school is perfect, but Aquinas strives to do its best in everything it does. The Catholic community is stellar, and Catholic teaching is a top priority for the school. They take great care in forming well-rounded children and preparing students for higher education. The student-to-teacher ratio is idealnot too big and not too small. I have always been able to communicate easily with my childs teacher, and the Principal is always willing to listen to any concerns. We now have a new Assistant Principal whose smile and warmth have brought even more community to our school. She is fluent in Spanish and has been a true blessing to our Spanish-speaking families. I would highly recommend this school to anyone moving to the area.

I have been involved with Aquinas and the Dominican Sisters for more than 30 years, first as a parent and now as a Grandparent. This school is the best investment in education you could possibly make for your children. My children excelled in High School and College because of the staff, teachers and rigorous curriculum. Even today, I see the same quality education being imparted into my grandchildren too. Most importantly, they have a full understanding and love for their faith. My children and now grandchildren are proof that this institution will set your family up for success in academics and success in life. The school is an investment and the return is priceless.

I went to Aquinas from Pre-k to 8th grade. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to be able to attend such an amazing school. Everyone at the school is like family; you can always count on a teacher or friend to be at your side when you need them the most. I loved being able to make new friends and grow with them throughout my elementary and middle school journey. Aquinas offers many different and engaging classes that I were a lot of fun. They also offer advanced math, science, and English programs which I took part in. I enjoyed being able to engage in competitive sports teams with my friends. Aquinas helped me to not only grow academically, but also socially and above all, religiously. Through the guidance of the teachers, most importantly the Dominican Sisters, we are formed into Christ-like young adults who will carry our faith life into not only high school, but beyond. I loved Aquinas and I would encourage all young students to enroll.

This is our family's fifth year at Aquinas. I have had children in every grade at some point from K through 8th grade and I only have positive things to say about Aquinas. The teachers and staff really care about the students. This is evident in the amount of time the teachers spend looking out for their students. Before we even enrolled at Aquinas, one teacher spent over an hour of her time on the phone with me talking about the STEM program to see if it would be a good fit for some of my children. The school counselor spent an hour of her time discussing how my children would transition into Aquinas and how she takes time to meet with new students to make sure they are adjusting well. Teachers show up on their days off to off campus events and tests to encourage/support their students. They make themselves available during their lunch break to tutor students that need/want help as well as after school. These are just a few examples of the love and care that is poured into each student at Aquinas. My children have very varied interests and they all have clubs/sports that they have enjoyed participating in from crocheting, cheer, soccer, basketball and track to the middle school musical! My children have had leadership opportunities through Student Council, National Junior Honor Society and Altar Serving/Jr. Sacristan programs. My neighbors' kids attend public school and I know Aquinas' curriculum is much more academically rigorous while also providing differentiated instructions to meet the academic needs of different children. It is a joyful place that nourishes my children not just academically but socially and spiritually as well. The joyful presence and leadership of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia really makes this an even more special place. As my son says, "Seeing the Sisters reminds me of God and to pray!" Aquinas lives up to their school motto, "Fides et Ratio/Faith and Reason" by helping them grow in their faith as well as socially and academically. I definitely recommend Aquinas to others!

Our experience at Aquinas has been exceptional. When we first moved to the area and visited several schools, Aquinas immediately felt like the right choice for our family. Having attended Dominican Catholic schools myself, I truly appreciate the structure and discipline Aquinas provides.
The schools commitment to delivering a quality education alongside strong moral values is something I have witnessed firsthand through my children. One of my children recently transitioned to public high school and is thrivingtaking advanced classes without struggle. This success is a direct reflection of the accountability and time management skills instilled at Aquinas, combined with support at home.
As a parent, I value the open communication with teachers and the shared commitment to education, discipline, and accountability. Aquinas offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that have allowed my children to explore their interestsBattle of the Books, Shakespeare Club, Choir, Band, Middle School Musical, Volleyball (Champions this year!), Cheerleading, and Track. Academically, the school provides differentiated levels in Math, Science, Language Arts, and Spanish, as well as a resource program for students who need additional support.
I deeply appreciate the high standards Aquinas maintains and the positive influence these expectations have on my children. It truly takes a village to raise our children, and Aquinas is an integral part of that village.

They really seem to care about each child individually and are so attentive to what each child needs to succeed. You feel a real sense of community at the school, from the office staff, to the teachers, even the parents. Everyone supports each other. I highly recommend St. Thomas Aquinas!

Most of the teachers are not qualified and do not know how to teach children. Large, consistent turnover of teachers. New hires either have never taught or are not qualified for the grade they are teaching. Students spend 7 hours in school yet come home not understanding the material and confused. The amount of homework is monumental and increases stress and anxiety on children. There are at least 3-4 tests per week starting in 3rd grade that the children are not prepared for due to lack of educational instruction (moving on without kids truly understanding the material). Emails to teachers seeking clarification are discouraged and met with unprofessional, sarcastic, rude responses from teachers. Administration turns a blind eye to bullying by teachers, in particular the Art teacher. Instead, the school is run military-style due to the principal's obsession for handing out punitive "blue slips". Students are expected to always be silent unless otherwise spoken to. Even during lunch, they are expected to be silent. The school does not offer the same extracurriculars as other schools such as All Saints in Manassas. Family engagement is extremely cliquey, with obvious "in-groups" and if you are not part of it your student is shunned and targeted.

Our experience with this school was extremely horrible. Teaching was subpar. The teacher never responded to emails or requests to meet. Kids are innundated with homework without sufficient teaching. Teachers move on to new topic each day without ensuring the children understood.
Tests and quizzes every week. The Math teacher told me if only 15 students pass a test, she's ready to move on. That's 35% of the class of 42-44 students. How sad! I had to do a lot of teaching at home which defeats the purpose of such high tuition. My child was on honor roll the entire time, but it was not the work of the school. I had to put in the work. It was the most stressed I've ever been.
Bullying is rampant in the school. Students, in their own words," hate one another" for no reason. Assistant Principal is very rude and thinks if she hides her head in the sand and denies the existence of bullying long enough, it'll go away. A lot of times she'll laugh and chuck it up to "middle school behavior". A very toxic environment, not conducive to a child's overall growth. You will end up with a broken child. I know a few kids from this school who have developed psychological issues as a result. You get zero support from the school while they force you to volunteer for 10hours or pay $200, and expect lots of donations. It is a very "Catholic" school but not at all a Christian school. Children are not taught to be Christ-like at all. Teachers and administrators lie! When asked to write letters of their experience to the parents, the children were asked to keep their negative sentiments to themselves and only write good things. Parents do not know or are too afraid to chalkenge the school. Please do your research before going here. You could be doing yourself and especially your child a disservice if you don't.

My experience the past two years at Aquinas has been extremely positive. Last year it was voted the "Best Private School in Prince William County" and earlier this year it received the Purple Star recognition in support of military families. No school is perfect, but in my experience they truly try to work with parents and do what's best for each child. Academically, the school consistently scores above national averages on standardized tests and it offers advanced classes in English and Math for middle school (up to Geometry for 8th graders), and most of the classes are at least one year ahead of the local public schools. It also has a huge sports program, mostly coached by parents, and a yearly middle school musical that really is amazing. The resource program is also great, but it's full right now, which can be difficult if you need those services. It seems some of the teachers in the older reviews from five years ago are no longer employed by the school, and I know the administration was also new last year, which can make a difference.

We have been members of the school community for 7 years. I have two children currently enrolled, one in elementary (started in Pre-K) and one in middle school (started in K). We have been very pleased with the education, the school administration, and the families and friends we have made over the years. The offerings of STEM, Advanced Language Arts, band, and Spanish (elementary one day a week and middle school daily) provide advanced learning opportunities. There is homework in all grades with elementary being mostly spelling and math and middle school spanning multiple classesI wont lie, there are times that middle school seems to have a LOT of homework (disclosure, my middle schooler is in the advanced classes). The faith-based education, combined with monthly virtues, has provided a wonderful well-rounding of my children that I see demonstrated outside of school (encouraging someone to keep trying to telling someone they did great). Additionally, I have found the administration and teachers very supportive, proactive, and very caring. For example, my youngest started in PreK and even through Covid quarantine was so excited to get on her zoom classes with her teacher (I found the classes engaging too :)). She was not a reader going into Kindergarten but by the time she finished, she was reading a grade level above and continues to be well ahead in reading and math. There are sacrifices with the tuition, as there would be in any private school choice, but I have found it worth every penny when I see the relationships my kids have with their friends, hear about the things they are learning, and see their excitement to go to school every morning. We would absolutely recommend Aquinas!

Aquinas is an amazing school. We currently have 3 children enrolled at Aquinas and 1 who graduated 2 years ago. First, it is a very loving and joyful environment. Teachers always genuinely smile and greet you when they see you as parents. The Principal and Assistant Principal greet the children as they enter the school each school day. Academically, Aquinas is very strong. My children are academically ahead of other children I know who attend public school. The IEW/grammar program they use is excellent. There is differentiated/accelerated instruction for math, science and English which has met the academic needs of my academically varied children, including a STEM program partnered with Johns Hopkins! What sets Aquinas apart from other academically strong schools is the presence and leadership of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. The joy and peace they bring to the community is beyond price and along with this they bring the intellectual and academic charism of the Dominican order. This is what drew us to Aquinas. My children have grown in their faith because of the Sisters and their teachers. Aquinas is just very strong on so many levels. I highly recommend Aquinas as a place where children grow academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially in a loving, faithful environment.

I have 2 children at Aquinas, and couldnt be happier with the education they are receiving. My kids are excelling academically, but more importantly (to me) they are fostering a love of learning. They come home every day with something they are excited to share. Additionally, the school provides an environment of kindness, structure, and respect that is missing in todays public education.

I went to Aquinas as a child, and as nostalgic as that may seem, I did have some reservations that the school would be stuck in its old ways from the 90s. I was happy to find that this is not the case! The school has advanced in technology, methodology, and teaching styles. Everything has evolved to create an optimal learning environment.

I cant wait to experience all the additional benefits offered to the middle schoolers - particularly the STEM program and award winning sports program.

I highly recommend Aquinas as a great place to send your kids. Youll go for the strong academics and fall in love with the community.

I have 2 children currently enrolled in the school and 2 that have graduated and moved on to high school. The school provides a safe learning environment for children based on Catholic values. The school is small enough that you feel like you know your kids friends and parents. The amount of homework is reasonable and I like that the teachers require the students to learn how to be responsible and turn their work in on time. I feel my children have truly earned the grades that they received instead of just being moved along to the next grade. I would recommend this school 100%.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. THEY DID NOT HELP MY CHILD AT ALL AND WILL BE FAILING HIM. THIS IS SAD. PAYING OUT OF POCKET $620.00. NO HELP WAS PROVIDED. I was shocked to see such low ratings for our wonderful school. Like many, I often rely on the internet to help me make decisions. Its the beauty of the internet, but its also a downfall. If you really want to know, do your research and due diligence. Speak to the families and students that currently attend the school or have in the past. Attend an open house. Then make your choice. As we all know, 2020 was a nightmare year. The faculty and staff did everything in their power to bring our kids back into the classroom in the fall and they did. They have been heroic in their efforts and have worked tirelessly to ensure that our children are where they belong; in the classrooms SAFELY. For those that think we dont care about our kids because were sending them in while COVID is still prevalent, youre wrong. Many of us attended the safety briefings provided by the faculty or weve even seen the different safety provisions in place first hand. No one wants anyone to contract this awful virus-especially kids! The children are happy in their environments despite having to wear their masks all day. The classrooms are setup according to the CDC guidelines and proper spacing is observed. There are hand sanitizers throughout and the kids are given mask breaks and time outside to get some fresh air. Again, go to the source and ask a student how happy they are. You want to rewind before the pandemic? Hands down still a great school. We have two classrooms per grade with about 25 children per class. Most of the teachers are wonderful, but like life was that always your memory? Im sure youve had teachers that you didnt like or that made life difficult, but that is part of growing and learning from adversity. If you truly feel like your child is being bullied or mistreated like the complaint in a previous review, then speak up. Dont hide behind a review. The administration and the Diocese of Arlington take this stuff seriously. In our many years at the school, weve seen a couple of teachers relieved of their duties in the middle of the school year or not welcomed back the following school year because their thoughts and values didnt fall in line with basic Christian values. I say Christian because you dont have to be Catholic to attend the school. You just have to understand that it is a class taught within the robust curriculum. There is so much to offer. They have Spanish, STEM, advanced language arts, choir, band, sports, a school play, and an active PTO.

There tends to be a lot of homework. On one hand it prepares the kids to learn to do work outside the classroom (prepares them for college and life in the long run) and reinforce the lessons; on the other hand, it can stress out some kids and end up staying up late because they push themselves to finish, and it becomes an escape for teachers to make up for materials that they didn't get to cover properly at school.

My experience at this school was disheartening. My child was four years old, had a speech delay and was overall a very well behaved student at daycare. The pre-k teacher may have lacked the knowledge of how to comfort my kid and work through her concerns. The atmosphere caused my child more anxiety, and ultimately, to shut down academically. Guidance counselors did not step in to make accommodations. Resource teachers did help some. My kid is now thriving in a different school that provides caring teachers, as well as a nourishing and supportive atmosphere where speech has improved. This school has potential. Recent mental health findings, trainings and practices should be implemented across the board instead of a cold and distant attitude with good kids that just need a little more support. They should feel included and be allowed an education in the faith too.

Our experience has not been good. The school for us does not have the students interest at heart. Disappointed in so many things. So many early release days, too many events to interrupt the teaching day. Feed the teachers once a month. It all seems to emphasize the school and not the students and families. There are cliques amongst the adults. Terrible location on Route 1. Just an ugly setting.

Just too much homework for us. My kids are up late everyday and on weekends trying to get a never ending stream of projects done. One project was to create a pamphlet on a subject. 6 months later, the exact same project was assigned in another subject. It seems projects are for the parents to teach to the children instead of learning from the school.

The only thing that seems to be stressed are things to not do or say. Would want to see a more positive reinforcement of good choices not just hand slapping. Read the admission forms. Seems to only be looking for problems. Not until item 6 or 7 does the teacher recommendation form as about a student's strengths. It is a bit of a precursor to the school climate. Administration seems to only concentrate on year round fund raising.

I think the teachers try. I am neutral as I strongly believe the teachers hands are tied in many instances with respect to discipline, allowing disruptive students to remain in class, selective demerit process.

The level of disrespect for the teachers in this school is astounding, not just with a number of students disrupting an entire class session. If the child is from the favored families they will continue with no repercussions. Aquinas as a whole is not respectful of parents time. Parent's are treated as if they don't work during the day with many events being scheduled in the morning or middle of the afternoon.

In order to know all that goes on in this school you would need to be a stay at home parent, spending most of your time at the school. It's unfortunate as others have said, the focus is on fundraising and you rarely see improvements to the school. Where does the money go?

This school does not effectively deal with bullying. An in school or Saturday detention is not enough to deter bullies, the behavior continues and teachers simply turn a blind eye.

Not great. It's more exclusive than inclusive. I think the apple's don't fall far from the trees and a lot of kids feel entitled because they are, and they know it. The fact that we are forced to volunteer at the school or pay $100, in addition to tuition is ridiculous. I believe this is another way for the school to make money off the free labor of parents. I am interested in my child's education, it concerns me how much homework is given on a regular basis. Late nights lead to long days for all of us. I really wish this area had other alternatives besides Aquinas and Christ Chapel.

We tried to be open when coming to this school. The experience was terrible. Some of the teachers are ok, nothing to rave about. The administration is terrible. Parents are spoken down to. Bullying by the administration and by the students is tolerated.

You will be spending tons of money at craft stores to do projects. You will be teaching your children most of the lessons. If you like projects and to teach your children, then this is the school for you all while you pay tuition.

This school has a fixation on fundraising. Yes, all private schools need funds, but this is a never stopping train. Look at the school website. Most of the items are about fundraising. Tuition goes up more than salaries. 5% this year, more than most any other private school, yet the fundraising gets drilled and drilled. The focus is not on the kids. The education is just not spectacular. You do not get what you pay for or fundraise for. There are better choices.

As a Catholic school, Aquinas just doesn't have the resources to help all students; however in the past several years they have improved their Resource Department and they work to be as responsive in tailoring learning plans as they can.

We had a very good experience at Aquinas. Our child learned her faith and can defend it well. She also learned to practice her faith, and is very kind and merciful. She has a good academic basis for high school and has found that she had already learned what is taught in several high school classes. While homework can be heavy, she learned time management and was well equipped for high school.

Academic program is weak. Student not operating on grade level once moved to public school. Enough said. Children are hurried through lunch, told to not speak. Recess is short. Mega phones used to hurry children.

My children has received a loving and nurturing environment that has fostered a love for learning, a strong sense of school pride, community and faith. The teachers have been kind and hands-on as well as responsive. Academically they are challenged and everyday happy to attend. We have all created friends that share our commitment to balancing strong academics and faith. We have enjoyed all the activities in school and out; from sports, music, drama, to community events, Aquinas offers something for everyone.
