Both of my kids go to Bishop Ireton. One is graduating in 2026 and the other is class of 2028. This is an amazing school is every way (teaching, social/clubs, sports, community involvement/charity, religious teachings, and more). My children both love the school and I cannot say enough good things about the school administration and teachers. I feel lucky for both of my kids to go to Bishop Ireton and would recommend the school to any other family.

Both of my children graduated from Bishop Ireton a few years ago and I couldn’t be happier. The teachers at BI challenged my children and both rose to the occasion and both played sports. With the guidance of their college counselor, both children went on to excellent universities where they are very happy and excelling.

It’s important to remember a student’s primary teachers are their parents, caregivers and family. Having said that, BI has excellent academic and extra curricular activities for everyone. That being said, BI isn’t for everyone; if you are a student that doesn’t want to learn, work for your grades or, be involved with your classmates then, BI is not your place. Also, if you are a parent that does not want to be involved in their child’s education and development, or doesn’t want to participate in parent activities at this faith-based school then, I encourage you to look for other options.

When my two children entered their freshman year of college, they were surprised to find out how much BI prepared them academically, based on the other freshman in their class. In fact, both of them agreed that BI prepared them for success in college and in life.

School is run very poorly, their "teachers" often talk about how they hate their jobs and how they have no desire to work there.

I can not say enough good things about Bishop Ireton, it is an excellent school with a challenging curriculum and wonderful extra curricular activities, having say that, it is very important for the students to have the right attitude towards hard work and responsibility, an then again, that is to be expected at this point in their lives in order to succeed in their future careers.

I have a daughter there now and one that has graduated. My older daughter was well prepared for college, much more so than a lot of her friends at college. In both my children's cases, we had times where there were some issues we had to work through. Whether a teacher wasn't the best fit or absent with illness & had to play catch up. Both my kids dealt with anxiety. I reached out to the teachers, counselors & the administration. I cannot say enough great things about the support we received. Both my kids had friends, were involved. I experienced the students to be inclusive. I think the teachers genuinely care about the students and about them learning. It was a good experience. No school is perfect and high school is a range of emotions, but my experience of BI was far less drama than friends of mine with kids in public school and quite frankly other private schools. Bullying is not tolerated. Service is stressed. The mean girl drama I witnessed friends deal with did not happen at BI. There's a place for everyone at BI.

Teachers all seem to care about teaching and more importantly they care if we are actually learning. This has been very compared to my old public school.

If you don't have or embrace these characteristics you will have a hard time at Bishop Ireton. From the staff to the students I feel you are definitely judged by your character.

Can be a little harsh sometimes but this is a Catholic School so it is expected. No issues with leadership. except Mr. Bass. He is very disrespectful and just flat out doesn't care about students. It is very concerning that someone like him could have such a prominent position at Bishop Ireton as Dean of Students. Its obvious he has personal issues that he is letting effect his work life. He needs to get this sorted out.

Teachers are very accommodating to using alternative methods to teach students who have difficulty learning by traditional methods.

Every instance of bullying I have personally seen has been appropriately dealt with by teachers and faculty except if Mr Bass is involved. He is the biggest bully at Ireton and gets off by intimating kids.

I transferred in during my Junior year and have thrived at Bishop Ireton. I feel that the atmosphere breeds success by being around so many other driven students. I was very intimidated being a non Catholic and transferring to a school where I didn't know anybody but everyone was really friendly and I felt welcomed right away. I felt comfortable immediately. I was a B student at a very highly rated public school but my parents felt I could use a change of scenery to focus on my grades. It worked and even though the classes are harder I have had a way easier time at BI achieving my goals and I feel that I am way more prepared for college then I would have been anywhere else.

It is heartbreaking to see what my Alma Mater has become. And I wish more would speak out and honestly about the student culture. But then again, the principal (such a nice lady) wouldn't do anything.

Bullying is met with bullying! The dean of students is a bully and pits student's against each other until he hears what he wants to hear. He plays the bad cop role. God is the only good Cop protecting the students at BI

As a graduate of BI who went on to attend a top 40 university for free, I can attest that Bishop Ireton is a good school. There are many AP options, and if you have good tests scores and grades, there are courses that will challenge you. As it is a smaller school, it is easy to be involved in sports and other extra curricular activities.

I attend bishop ireton and have mixed feelings about this school. The math teacher i had last year was absolutely awful. I completed my 8th grade year with the highest grade in my math class and ended freshman year with barely a C-. However, some of the teachers are excellent! There are several tests a week and studying daily would be recommended to pass all classes with an A. I disagree with freshman taking earth science as i took it in 8th grade and repeated it ninth grade even though i made a solid A in the class in middle school. All schools have pros and cons. I would recommend bi if your willing to spend excess money on tutoring outside of school.

Bishop Ireton is a great private high school for what it costs. Be sure your child studies in advance when taking placement tests as this can dictate, especially in math, the courses you will take until you are a senior. Recommendations from teachers can help bump a student to a higher level, but they must have a track record as a student working hard to improve their performance. Public high schools may offer more in tech. courses, but you go to B.I. so as to get into a great college. If you work with the administration, one-on-one you can take a needed course at an outside high school and get it applied to your curriculum. My daughter was accepted to every college of which she applied. She earned $144,000 in merit scholarships and many of her class mates earned more. The class of 2013, approximately 190 students, earned over $9,000,000 in scholarships to colleges and universities of every academic level in Virginia and across the US. At B.I. many students are involved in sports, drama, music and other extracurricular activities. The opportunities can be exhaustive, just look for them. At B.I. the school, parent and student together can make a difference in your child's future.

Bishop Ireton High School provides the students with academic challenge as well as a friendly and nurturing environment. I have been very impressed with the faculty and staff. The teachers are wonderful! My son is a senior, so during his first 3 years at BI, Mr. Hamer was the head of school and also his advisory teacher. My son enjoyed his time with Mr. Hamer, who was always there for him. BI was the only high school my son applied to because it was the only school that he wanted to attend (and we wanted him to attend). BI exceeded all our expectations.

Teachers in some subjects are good. Math has required tutoring outside of school. Administration communication is poor, technically, topically, and minimal on important information relating directly to a students academic success. The guidance counselors are stretched and abbreviated in communications. A new guidance counselor was learning about the topics I was inquiring about with me.

Bishop Ireton is a high school which focuses on the whole person, through religious instruction. Our daughter graduated last spring with honors, due to the wide variety of honors and AP courses offered. The whole graduation process of filling out college applications and meeting deadlines was well organized by the Office of Counseling Services. The PTO is active in many ways, offering family fellowship.

BEFORE you enroll, check out course requirements and offerings. Compare BI to Fairfax County schools. You will never get as much variety or quality at BI. Either a "prerequisite" locks you out of a course that is really just understaffed, or your year just won't happen to offer a course that was available previously. Earth Science, a standard 9th grade class at BI, is a middle school class in Ffx Co..(and should be!) BI is way behind the curve in Math ANY way you look at it. Foreign language classes are a sheer waste of time if you want to hear or speak a language besides English. College prep doesn't happen, either. What I've learned in college about my BI "education" makes me feel like I need to pay back my parents for the money they wasted.

Bishop Ireton is an amazing school!!! I am having soo much fun! The teachers are great and the sports are very fun. It is conveniently located near some restaurants so I can stay after school and before practice, eat dinner. There are many clubs and they're fun to be in. I HIGHLY recommend sending your kid to BI.

Bishop Ireton High School has a wonderful culture that emphasizes students becoming strong, mature adults with character and a commitment to helping others. The principal is engaged and highly respected and approachable. The students love being there and are involved with so many clubs, charities and sports programs it is more of a community - parents get together as well as the kids. Mass is also fun, the Priest is interesting and students play instruments and are involved, just like adults. The faculty like teaching, the coaches like their students to get good grades and brag about their teams GPA's I am not kidding! They arrange for tudoring, buses to college fairs - mentors. Counselors are really current from ADHD to Concussion disorder. Negative is costs more than sticker, all the add-ons add UP and UP. I like the fact that you can see exactly what you student purchases for lunch - you can clamp down on that!
