Finishing another year, our student is onward soon to high school! Thank you Blessed Sacrament! It has been a nice journey and there were many fond memories over the years. I would give 5 stars but every school especially Catholic schools are always in need of more funds so. Otho g can be perfect. I hope the school will fall upon an abundance of funding over the next years to continue and stay strong for the future so all have a nice journey like us. We will always support Catholic education.

Quality education in Northern Virginia! Our child has progressed fast and enjoys the school work and learning. Homework and summer work has been a difficult part due to other outside activities but I know being a parent the homework is important and more than the outside activities so we need to be sure the work is done for our childs continued progress.
The families in the class have been fun to get to know and we have made many new friends and a couple lifelong friends through the school.
I recommend this school to anybody even though is a Catholic school you do not need to be Catholic. With that said they teach worthwhile everyday virtues and morals that we all can place central in our life.
There is a presentation given at the beginning of the year where they note high standard scores tests relative to the region. So that is nice to know that there is quality education and quality values being taught.

Our family has had a very positive experience these past five years. Our children have loved every day and have had some excellent teachers that we could not ask more. The class size is perfect and there is one class per grade which makes a nice small feel and easy to know so many. Overall the education is stellar and a good challenge and the religious aspect is so important for our faith. The priests and this diocese is excellence!

Third grade parent here! I can not say enough about how happy we are with BSS, especially the third grade team. The amount the students are learning and the communication between school and home is phenomenal.

Incredible staff and administration, and a well connected community. We have two children going through and weve always found the lessons engaging but challenging, the administration to be very responsive, the community welcoming, the family activities through the school are so fun, and the teachers care so much about their children. They have a great playground, great test scores, great teachers. Everything you could want!

We are so grateful for our experience at BSS. Our child has grown so much this past year academically and socially. While not without it's challenges, BSS has risen to the occasion and provided enriching experiences for our child. Looking forward to the coming school year!

I cannot wait for this school year to be over so we can move our child to another school. Every day I struggle to encourage my child out of the car at drop off. Multiple days they started crying before school, which is very uncharacteristic of what was once a joyous experience. They are usually energetic and happy but I have noticed a significant switch in their behavior, especially in the last year. They have become extremely nervous and harboring a lot of anxiety. A couple times they came back after school crying from being hit or pushed in class or on the playground and the faculty knew nothing about it, or choose to ignore it. I would think that they would notice when one of their students was crying. On an academic note, my child has slowly been dropping in performance. They were way ahead on math and reading and have slowly slipped below the average. The fact is that the school is simply spread too thin to be able to meet the needs of the children attending. The principal constantly sends out emails justifying the failure to maintain an adequate faculty on the national teacher shortage. If you research this epidemic, all data points to teacher's feeling underpaid, unequipped, and unappreciated, which seems to definitely be the case in this instance. I hope they sort this out, but I can't sit and by and watch my child suffer while they do.

My family has been very happy with Blessed Sacrament School. We have been impressed with the high quality of academics the school provides and Catholic teaching. My son has been supported by all of his teachers and and the staff has always been incredibly helpful and willing to provide extra support when needed. I would certainly recommend Blessed Sacrament School!

We are proud BSS parents who will be watching their youngest child graduate from BSS in a few weeks. Over our 17 years as a BSS parents, we have been blessed to watch our 3 children learn and grow in a warm and caring environment. They have been challenged, supported, encouraged, and loved by their teachers, administration, and priests. We firmly believe that the years our children have spent at BSS has had an incredible impact on the people they are today. Not only are they incredibly successful academically with two attending excellent colleges, they are also responsible, kind , considerate human beings who make direct impacts in their community. The BSS community has been such an important part of our lives for so long. We are blessed to have been a part of it and are so thankful to the dedicated faculty and staff that have given so much to our children.

Our family has had a wonderful educational experience at Blessed Sacrament. We have been a part of the school community since 2017 so we have seen the school weather many difficult transitions (new administration, the pandemic, staffing changes, etc.) The reason Blessed Sacrament continues to be successful through these changes is because of the supportive community that surrounds it. Additionally, we have had an excellent experience with the Academic Resource Center at Blessed Sacrament. Some of our children were diagnosed with learning disabilities after starting school and we are so grateful and blessed to have the resources and support to help our children thrive. Not every Catholic or private school can provide support for students with different learning needs but Blessed Sacrament makes it a priority to ensure that all their students are successful. We know that we have many educational options in the Northern Virginia area but if we could do it again, we would choose Blessed Sacrament.

My family's experience at Blessed Sacrament School has been wonderful. The administration and faculty are knowledgeable, caring, and supportive. My children are safe, every adult in the building knows their names, and they are receiving a solid education. BSS navigated the pandemic with grace and ingenuity insuring that the student body remained in school and engaged.
The staffing shortage experience by BSS is not unique to the school. Most schools are dealing with the dearth of teachers. The administration and faculty have been creative in filling the gaps, and the length to which the faculty has gone to help out by giving of their own time is proof that they are a caring and supportive group of professionals.
Children and adults are struggling everywhere to regain the feeling of respect and community lost during the pandemic. My family feels blessed to be part of the BSS community and I believe my children will graduate from 8th grade with a strong academic record and a confidence built by caring friendships with peers and support from teachers.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. This school is awful. Kids in my class get bullied daily. I have seen many kids in my class have breakdown due to the pressure of the other student. The admission does nothing about it and instead says, Go get some water, youll feel better after. There are awful cliques in my class and any kids who dont fit into the guideline of them have no one else but them and their books. The admissions also has a problem. They set their sights on one kid or group of kids in particular and only focus on finding the bad in them that other kids are able to get away with anything they like. Lots of the teachers are extremely unqualified. My teacher recently quit due to the pressure that was coming from the school. Many teachers are on their first year and have no previous experience. The staffing is awful. Our principle is teaching 3 different classes and splitting one with our MUSIC TEACHER who has 0 and yes, I mean 0 previous teaching experience. The school has one major problem. A principle who sets unrealistic goals and requirements for students. She also underpays and undervalues sooooo many things and people at this school. This involves the special ed program. Our resource teacher is an incredible human being who does so much for the school with the limited amount of resources given to her. The principle has some of the most unrealistic expectations I have ever seen. The joy has left these hallways ever since the arrival of this new principal. She needs to go. I cannot wait to walk these halls one last time.

Something is up! This is a k-8th grade school and 6 certified teachers have quit this calendar year, including the only student counselor?! We hear many more will not be coming back for the 23-24 school year! We came to this website to write a review about the poor education factor and saw the most recent review. We just fact checked it and it is true. I cant emphasize enough the coincidence that there are TWO different families writing a negative review in this short of time about BSS. We noticed the administration has been unable to replace the teachers and staff who have already left, so children are being taught by men and women with little to no teaching experience or they lack proper training in the subject they are teaching. That seems odd for a private school in the Washington DC area. From our perspective the new principal has unrealistic expectations of the kids and staff, sets unattainable goals for them, and lacks the needed understanding of age appropriate behavior for someone in that position. Her motto for the children is joy through the struggle. What struggle is she referring to? Shouldnt children be happy at the elementary age and not focus on struggle? This school is nearly pre-Vatican with this new Principal. Theres no happiness or joy in these halls anymore. Its just an awkward and weird environment. I believe she is why the staff is leaving in such high numbers as well as many families. Education wise we are not impressed. Children at other schools are at much higher reading, writing, and math levels. I have no idea what is going on here, but I believe we made a mistake enrolling our kids at BSS. I am embarrassed when I speak to parents whos children attend other schools when discussing their kids reading levels. Im so nervous my children have fallen too far behind and I wake up every morning with this gut wrenching feeling they have. We hired a tutor a few months ago who told us this week we should pull them and put them in a school with good reading resources to help them catch up to where they should be. I feel like I have failed them. Our children will finish this year and look at the other schools in the area to find a healthier environment than what is here, but most especially an environment thats equipped to educate. We want to warn other families to pass on this school. We feel awful for the time and money we wasted. We cant get these years back for our kids.

It is going to be a long time to recover my family from this experience. There was a few issues before. But since this new principal came in, it has completely gone down hill.

The teachers are overwhelmed. The student teacher ratio averages 30 to 1.

They can't retain teachers. 5 teachers have quit in the last 18 months. The 4th grade teacher quit in the middle of the school year.

3 of their teachers are in their 1st year of teaching. The first grade has a permanent sub without experience or a teaching degree.

The last school counselor quit and they never got new one.

A small group of manipulative parents control the narrative.

This school year alone, the administration threatend 4 students with diagnosed disabilities, maybe more, with expulsion if they didn't withdrawal

On a personal note. Bullying is rampant. My kid is consistently teased by bigger kids in class. At one point my child was told to kill themself. We had multiple discussions with the teacher and the principal and there was absolutely nothing done. It is heart wrenching to tell your kid to keep walking away because nothing is done after telling the teacher or principal. At one point, my kid asked to see the counselor, before the counselor had quit, to talk about their feelings after getting teased and they refused them. It got bad and my kid started lashing out at the kids teasing them. That is when we start getting phone calls from the administration labeling our kid as emotional and aggresive. Their advice was to get them on child therapy.

We followed their advise and sent them to the therapist. After the second session, the therapist strongly recommended moving our kid to another school. It turns out that the therapist is seeing many kids from Blessed Sacrament with the same type of trauma.

If your child is good at sitting there quietly and does not get picked on, they should be fine at achieving a general level of education. If your kid needs any additional help or support, they will not provide it. You will get phone calls and told what you should do at home to help your child and they will not employ any support at school.

Sending your child here is the worst mistake you can make. The bullying here is UNPARALLELED. The school is very tight knit community (which may sounds great at first) but it results in everyone knowing your business whether you like it or not. The moms at this school are constantly gossiping about one another which shows in their children bullying their peers. The administration here does not care about what is going on with the students as long as they have a good image. The administration does NOT CARE about their students and have told students to not tell their parents about an arising issue. I must give credit to the middle school teachers who work hard and many of them deserve a better position than one in this dirt hole. One thing the religion department provides is a traditional catholic education which means homophobia, transphobia, and sexism. As an alum I can first hand say it made everyone in the class uncomfortable. The school is charging too much for such a horrible experience. And nit to mention they are always begging for money!!! Do your self a favor and do not send your kids here!!!

Our child is in 1st grade there and we have been very happy with the teachers and administrators. It is a well run school and academically he is doing well. He also comments that people are friendly. He goes outside to play three times a day, which I also appreciate. We love it here and are glad we chose BSS.

Bullying is rampant. My daughter was repeatedly called fat and ugly. The school dismissed the concerns. Now she struggles with her mental health. Classes are ok but the teachers have no specialization or knowledge of the subjects they teach. Many do not have teaching certificates.

Blue Ribbon School. How how wonderful, one might think. But that is only one piece of the puzzle. Academically BSS is not bad - unless your child has any learning disabilities, this is not the school for you. It is too small and does not have the resources to handle this sort of thing.
I will give kudos to the Middle School teachers. The work hard and put a lot of effort into teaching. The classes before those years are truly a struggle. Also, bullying is much more prevalent than they would lead you to believe and when an issue is brought to the attention of the school, the issue isn't taken as seriously and the child is just being sensitive".
Working parents versus non-working parents is a weird dynamic. The non-working parents rule this school and have for years I'm told. There is little no inclusivity from many of the parents at BSS and that exclusion trickles down to the children. It could be a great place but it has such a weird dynamic because of the parents. Counting down the days for my child to be done at BSS.

As a parent, I'm proud to send my children to such an academically strong school with a supportive community of teachers and parents. I love that grades K-5 have both a lead and assistant teacher in the classroom to help the students receive individualized attention if they need it. The middle school is strong and focused on high school preparation. Happy for my children to grow up as part of such a great school.

Blessed Sacrament is ruled by the "cool" kids and their families. If you don't play sports or play them well, you get bullied. There is a major clique problem currently (2017). Try to talk to a teacher about it and he/she will tell you "well, those kids and their families vacation together, there is nothing you can do." So if your parents are part of the BSS clique, your kid will be too. Exclusion is the rule, not the exception. Academically, it is average. Not good and not bad but bullying way more prevalent than they lead you to believe.

The main problem with this school is its size. Some people would say that a small school helps with the learning environment. I would say that is true but only 300 students in the school is not enough for the child to develop properly. Because of the size the school is very clique. Many students not in these "cliques" are bullied and left out. The school does also not prepare you for high school. When my eldest was sent to Bishop Ireton she was overwhelmed by how many people there were and the workload. I would recommend finding a school with more students in each grade.

I would say that academically speaking - BSS is spot on. But that doesn't make up for the negative parts. It seems that the first few years are more about breaking their little spirits and getting them to toe the line than remembering they are individuals. I've seen it first-hand when a good kid gets labeled (it happens quickly at BSS) as a bad kid. As soon as that happens, there is no hope. Even the youngest kids pick up on this quickly and the blame game begins. Also, if you are part of a family that has been part of this school for a while (meaning you have kids of several ages in BS) you are golden and everyone knows your name, including the principal - if you are new, you get ignored by most and this goes on for years. There are some terrific teachers and parents at Blessed Sacrament but there are more that treat parents and children alike as outsiders -- to never be made to feel part of the Blessed Sacrament family. I'd like to leave now but I don't want to make my child start all over again in a new school right but it isn t out of the question just yet. Maybe if the principal reads these sorts of reviews, things could change, but I'm not betting on it.

After reading the "wonderful" reviews about all the children "thriving" at this school I felt the need to weigh in as well. While it is interesting how the last three reviews all sound like they were written by the same person I have to say they are half true - this is a great school if your child is above average and started with them from Kindergarten. We have been here for years and, although my family is fine, I have heard and witnessed the exclusion and bullying of new children and families. The classrooms are so over-crowded with such an overwhelming teacher-child ratio that they just can't deal with the issue and, most times, blame it on the child being bullied "they're just being sensitive". We contemplated moving out of the school many times but were torn by how that change would affect our child, thankfully we are at the end of our time here as it has gotten much worse in the last 2 years. If we had to do it over, knowing what we do now, we would NEVER choose to send our child here - the academics aren't impressive enough to outweigh the potential damage to a young, impressionable child.

This school has impacted our whole family in such a positive way. The education is solid, the community is welcoming and thriving. There is something for everyone, and numerous opportunities to meet other parents and get involved. From Band to Minecraft Club, my children are engaged outside the classroom and the CYO sports are top notch. We could not be happier.

Blessed Sacrament School has been a great school for my son who transferred from public school. He has always been a strong student but is thriving at Blessed Sacrament. The parents have been welcoming, his teacher is phenomenal - responsive and proactive about communication, and the administration seems engaged and caring. Our transfer to Blessed Sacrament has been a great decision and wonderful experience for our family.

We transferred our child here from a public school for more of an academic challenge since the TAG program was so limited at the elementary level. Everything with Blessed Sacrament seemed wonderful during registration but things quickly went south from there. We should have been tipped off by the militant uniform requirements: the shoes must be all black or white not an easy task in kids sneakers. Many grades were over enrolled with 29 kids in classes taught by one teacher. They were so overwhelmed it was impossible to get work done during the school day, which made homework easily 2 hours each night. Communication with the teacher on questions or even offers of help went unanswered whether it was a letter in the agenda, a separate written note or an email. The only communication we got regularly was from the principle and mostly about fund raising. Some of the children were open to making new friends, but most of the children and families were not welcoming or open to new families joining the school. The children were encouraged not to show any individualism, if they stood out they would be picked on - welcome to Stepford! This is not a place where leaders are grown.

If you read the recent reviews of Blessed Sacrament I think you will see some common themes. For one this is a K-8th grade school & only offering a part-time counselor is unheard of. The only reason this school still exists is because Alex. City schools are rated so poorly. Please do not delude yourself in thinking of this school as a viable alternative to the public school system. The Principal lacks insight and sensitivity to meeting an individual student's needs. As in any school, problems will arise. It's really how things are handled that define a principal and the school. My niece is a straight A student who was asked to leave after the first quarter because she "wasn't the right fit". According to the principal she had a few crying episodes. No bad interactions with other children. Her parents were not made aware of this at all until the end of the first quarter and they were asked to leave the school.The counselor was at the meeting & told them she was not equipped to deal with her. (!) My niece's parents were floored, hired a counselor rec. by school & 2 weeks later told to leave by Christmas. It seems the decision was made before the parents were ever notified.

Zero quality, so don't waste your money. They still rely on one Blue Ribbon Award from MANY years ago for their marketing. They are overworking the kids and having parents go through sleepless nights, as well. Caring, compassion or bringing this school out of it's antiquated teaching methods, means nothing. A religious school should do more to at least make these kids feel safe and build their self esteem and morals, instead of breaking their little spirits. Teachers yell hysterically and ostracize; children are unsupervised during recess and lunch; no after school activities or a good program ( such as advisory or homework help); no new technologies to prep students for higher education demands; overpopulated classrooms; useless counseling and principal support. The kids are overly stressed, whether they're being bullied by peers or staff. Frankly, the parents are odd too. Living in this surreal bubble, and depriving their kids of a better education and a happier environment. Maybe a few nice parents that feel they have no choice, or are just conforming to what they think is the norm, but in general it's not a good community in terms of spiritual or academic life.

A great education! The teachers and administration go out of their way to assist childrten who have challenges. The curriculum is tough, but when my child goes on to high school, I know he will be well prepared. The school offers tons of after school activities. The recent school musical, is one example, that was lead by several teachers who put in many after school hours. The performance was outstanding. Both parents and teachers helped sew all the costumes. The children are excited to be there. Occasional issues are dealt with appropriately by both staff and administration. The entire community is warm and welcoming! It has been a real pleasure to have had my child attend school there for 10 years! My family and I will miss BSS when we leave.

BSS is a wonderful community. The principal, teachers, assistant teachers, nurses, aides and volunteers all go out of their way to work together to care for the children at this school. The best part of the school is that it is small with a family atmosphere. The classes are challenging - even the Kindergarteners have French, Spanish and computer classes. The teachers are active and supportive and go out of their way to have fun activities like musical concerts, art and science exhibits, culture day, plays, field day, etc. BSS is a great Catholic school!

Unfortunately, this school has not lived up to expectations. The teachers seemed to be overwhelmed. When trying to reach out, many times they respond they do not have enough time to respond to parents. Not a single teacher leads an extra curricular activity! The only emphasis is on behavior and not just getting along with others. For example, there is an emphasis on walking on the right at all times. Students are reprimanded for reading ahead, even when reading silently. Laughing is discouraged at all times. The principle, when brought tries to play the role of arbiter, allowing the inmates (teachers) to run the asylum. Her main focus seems to be fundraising.
